He was literally in the experiment for a second I believe then died due to the phone call interfering with the program But the vr was so great it looked like so much time had pass
Sadly the phone call ended his life and what we are watching here is what happened in the last 2 seconds of him being alive. According to the show, all his synapses lit up at once to full throughput and fried all of them. It started the moment the phone rang. By the end he was screaming "MOM" as loud as he could and died right after. In the simulation portion he found out his mom couldnt hear him like he wasnt there and it faded into his scream once he died when he realized nothing was real. They explained he saw everything he saw in 2 seconds the last thought being of his mother. Whats scary is he saw weeks or even months of a timeline that never happened without even knowing. This was one of the best episodes of black mirror I have seen so far.
But the only reason she ended up calling him was because he was trying to be secretive and not tell his family where he was going. He was trying to live the life of essentially a loner and not pay attention to the ones that he loved, and it cost him his life in the end.
@@vinceee_r because they asked him to turn off all devices since they could interfere with the testing trial for the new gaming experiment that they’re doing he chooses to ignore the peoples wishes just like he has ignored his own families wishes in which case ignoring his families wishes and doing what he wanted to do like I said, my first comment ended up and his mother calling him at the wrong time to ask where he is, and because of that exact moment that she called it distracted his brain in the sink/linking process and caused his brain to essentially do scrambled eggs and die almost immediately but the rest of the episode from the moment his phone rings is basically his dying moments
