wow, I am impressed with Yamaha on this bike....very informative my frined, I can hear the difference in your bikes exhaust tone...much closer on fueling...well.done!
As always another great video! Love watching you ride in that crazzy landscape 👍. If you dont mind me asking what is that red flashing light on that wrist watch looking thing?
She's coming along nicely! I've got the competition kit on my 250f but have never changed anything (no programmer avail). Power is a bit unpredictable, mapping def needs to be smoothed out.
+azdesertdog From what I can tell all Yamaha's 2015 and up share the same programmer. I thought for sure efi vs. carbs would make that impossible but it looks like the same part # for both/all.
Hi, just picked up a 2016 WR450F, did you program the GYTR ECU before you put it in? I have to wait for the programmer $. Nice informative vids, thanks
I'm confused, this ECU is meant for the yamaha 2012 thru 2015 model wr450f correct? I have the 2012 wr450f dirtbike and its fuel injected which has no choke. In fact 2012 above are fuel injected with no choke. How can you have a choke button if this is for 2012 and newer models? Or am I missing something? Any feedback appreciated.
+Arizona RE I always forget. I had a set in the V Strom and they shot into the neighbors yard. Try explaining to someone who doesn't know why your butt plug is in his flowers. AKWARD :-P
lol Exhaust Plug! I hate when I have a DOOP moment! I just recently learned I can put a 2006 or Newer TRX450R ECU into my quad and gain another 1200 RPM's. Used 06 or newer ECU's run for about 50 to 80 bucks. You know what I'm gonna be Buying! lol
Hmm removing the baffle, Do you still have the spark arrestor inside? 2 nd thing, did it tell you to unhitch the battery? I always do that when I disconnect my ECU on the Beemer. Just to be safe.
+navythomas8 Actually I replaced the baffle with a "competition baffle". The baffle is separate from the spark arrestor. The other video shows the install. I didn't disconn the battery didn't think of that. I'll remember next time. Thanks for the Info on that.
Hey AZ Dog I just picked up a used 2014 wr450f. What mods are the best bang for the buck? Throttle stop removed, and it's got the stock eco which I will be replacing soon. Did you modify the airbox or try an exhaust?
Congrats! I would get a quality slip on rather than mess with the stock exhaust. Skid plate and hand guards. If you can fit into your budget get the GYTR ECU and Power Tuner. They come as a package. You can read RPM, Hours and engine temp plus modify the fuel map. It's about $300 bucks. I would leave the air box alone the bike is tuned for a certain pressure int he box and modifying it will drive you nuts with the tuning if it goes wrong. Good luck.
@@senemtv yes, any WR450 after 2011 is fuel injected and can be remapped/tuned via the GYTR ecu. It’s a night and day difference along with freeing up the exhaust/air flow. That was the first thing I did on my 2012. I always ran it on the stock “aggressive map” that it comes with but you can go onto forums and tinker with other peoples custom tunes or have a pro mechanic do that for you. Really helps if you’re going to be doing more street riding or turning it into a supermoto. With my gearing I logged 107 mph on gps. Indicated around 115 on the Speedo. It’s fast..
I bought a 2014 used. Is there any way to tell if the gytr ecu is already installed? Does it look different than the original? Or is the part number on the tag different? Thanks for any help
I am not sure. The part number is stamped into the ECU. You can look it up on any of the popular motorcycle parts websites that have OEM parts. Generally they look like a big chunk of black plastic.
Nice little mod bro, came it fully programmed out of the box? How to connect it to the Coputer? No wide range O2 Sensor needed? I would like to see the recorded egine data... You see I like that computer stuff :-)
+Chris MotoBikingAtThisUnivers Yup ready to go out of the box with a "base map". No computer needed there is a programmer thingy that I have. I will mess with that in the next video. Need some ride time though.
+azdesertdog yeah that's where I am sitting right now, Figure once I can get riding, will do break in period on that base map, tho I was going to put the shops air/fuel sniffer on it, to see how lean it is or not, compared to the available maps I have already programmed into tuner. decisions, decisions LOL
I am thinking about trying the Aussie map. Sounds like a good desert map. My big thing right now is fuel capacity, only 34 miles to the low level fuel light comes on. The only tanks available are only 3 gallon only .9 more tha stock.
how many tanks have you gone thru? how many kms on bike, (still breaking in?) I averaged 50miles on the carbureted 2010 before reserve, I have heard the Fuel injection gets abit more, But that its tank is .1 of a gallon smaller. That bigger tank is pricey too.!
I just bought a used 2012 WR 450 and the bike is a pain to start hot. I have killed the battery several times out in the bush and had to resort to millions and millions of kicks to start it eventually. Now I know why the guy sold it. I feel so dumb because when I test drove it the bike was cold and started fine like it always does cold. Its got the full GYTR exhaust, screw and ecu when I bought it. The bike only had 10 hrs on it and is like new. Thanks if anyone can help .
Desert Mountain Preppers These bikes are known as hard starters. It should be better than what you describe. I don't know hiw many hours are on yours. Have you exoerimented with a different fuel map?
The bike is virtually brand new still. The guy I bought it from never rode it and now i know why. I have an appt on Thursday at the Yamaha dealer to see if they can program this issue out. When I first got it I could pull that knob out and it would start hot. Now it won't start with the knob in or out when hot and VERY difficult to kick start but I can after 30-40 kicks and letting it cool some. Yes I have killed the battery several times now then had to resort to kick start. I'm afraid to take it out riding now especially not being able to simply kick start it. If the dealer can't fix it then it going up for sale rather than dump any $$ into it and find another bike.
Desert Mountain Preppers You shouldn't use the enricher knob when hot. It's only for cold starts. A new plug might be a cheap place to start. If it has the GYTR chip the Yamaha fuel injection programmer is only $300 and is a useful tool if you keep it. It could also be a timing issue.
Thanks for the plug tip. Yep I shouldn't have to use the choke on hot start besides its a PAIN in the butt to get my gloved fingers in there and now it won't even start pulling that knob out. I believe from everything I've read that its a timing issue on a closed zero throttle and the GYTR tuner doesn't work on that throttle position and you have to get the dealers programmer. I'll let them give it a try and if it continues the bike is going down the road. We have tons of riding planned and I'm not spending it kick starting for hours.
You need to lean the mixture for the top end slightly. Also try twisting the throttle just slightly and hold steady while cranking. This will allow extra air in and make it easier to start.
hey man, just picked up a 2014 wr450f. I realized yamaha stopped making the competition ecu's for that year. Would you happen to want to sell yours or know where i could get one? thanks
Sorry I don't. It's been a couple years since I owned it. If you go on Thumpertalk forum there is a WR450 section specifically for this generation of 450. There is part numbers and fuel maps. The threads are full of excellent information.
They are no longer available from Yamaha. You would need to hit eBay or Craigslist for a used one. Also check the WR450 specific threads on the two forums Thumpertalk and ADVRider.
This gimmick is no different than disconnecting the grey wire and replacing the long throttle stop screw with a 25 mm which amazingly comes with the ECU.
So you're getting it dialed in. That's cool. It should be an awesome performer all round once you're done tweaking it. Real nice bike!
+BlastsFromTheSaddle Thanks. As you know it's fun to tinker.
You've got to love an easy mod that makes a noticeable improvement!
+stirlingshire Oh yah! I can't wait to start using the tuner.

+MrDuhfactor Thanks sir. Can't wait to start messing with the mapping!

Thanks. That blinking wrist band was the remote for my old camera.
She's coming along nicely! I've got the competition kit on my 250f but have never changed anything (no programmer avail). Power is a bit unpredictable, mapping def needs to be smoothed out.
+crj dirt (crjdirt) Will the YZ programmer work?
+azdesertdog From what I can tell all Yamaha's 2015 and up share the same programmer. I thought for sure efi vs. carbs would make that impossible but it looks like the same part # for both/all.

There is an enriched on the left side above the motor near the motor mount. I'm not sure what the that has to do with the ECU.
The butt plug, of all things to forget about! Glad it all worked out, and fairly easy too!

It’s possible to order GYTR ECU for Yamaha WR450F from 2013 ? Thnx

I got it at a dealership.
Hello anyone know where i can find a gytr competition ecu?!!! No luck finding one at all HELP!!!!
Your post in thumpertalk was responded to. I saw this. "Have a CompECU for a 2012 Wr450f. If you want contact me 914 837 4311. $50."
azdesertdog hi thank you so much I ended up finding one thanks to my local dealership 👍🏽
Where did you buy the ecu and throttle stop screw
They were from Yamaha's line of GYTR products. They are no longer sold. They do come up on eBay occasionally.
I recently got a 2014 wr450 and can’t find the ecu for it anywhere
I always forget to remove my butt plug hahahaha

You are horribly incorrect.
Dónde compro una ?????
They are hard to find. Sometimes you can find them on ebay. The Yamaha web site still lists them. You will also need the GYTR competition ECU.
