I bought the 2019 WR450 about a month ago. I got a great deal because it was a leftover. I was actually scared about the power it would have but figured I'd just get used to it... but actually I was so pissed when I first rode it! I could barely pull up the front wheel to get me over obstacles... I found this video and your other free mod video. I followed exactly what you did, including the FMF full system. I was so relieved! This bike was so restricted... but it's just crazy now!... This bike is so versatile. If you're a beginner its perfectly melow, and if you're an expert you can get all the power you could ever want! The map switch is such a great option too!! I've used it quite a bit to tame it down through some technical sections. I am so happy with my purchase! Thank you for your review! Well done!

Mate, the sound the intake makes when you twist the throttle and getting exhaust noise at the same time makes the bike feel exciting to ride.

Yeah, what a great review! I have a WR250F 2008 and have loved that bike, but am ready for something with a bit more power. I was set on a 350 European bike, but aftet this review, i will seriously look into the 450, especially when you describe the power as friendly, and I get that, because of my Yamaha 250 I ride now, so that probably put me over the line to at least enquire here in Australia as to what I can get one for. Thanks for testing it like a trail rider as well, because that's really the only style of riding my mates and I do. Great review, and thanks for doing it! Very helpful

Love my 1999 WR 400. I do a couple of Enduros a year in eastern Ontario Canada. We have a lot of crown land up here with thousands of kilometres of knarly trails too. Modified the front suspension as it was too stiff. Air only in one fork, spring only in the other. Perfect! Very similar trails to what you showed. I thought it would be too much bike as my first dirt bike back after 40 years on street bikes. My last dirt bike was a 1978 RM 125...In 1978! The WR is not a light bike but it’s not a DRZ either. At 60 years old I can still give a clinic on this bike. Street legal too, not a real dual purpose but sure makes it easy to get to the next trail. When and IF I ever need to replace it, it will be with another WR. GREAT REVIEW!

Victoria Australia: Thanks for your review, accurate too... and not just because i have a 2017 WR450F, there's plenty of awesome bikes now. Agree, after the air intake restriction removed, the air intake induction sound is awesome and along with the removal of the exhaust restrictor the power increase is noticeable. There is also a phone app for the newer 450's that gives access to ECU power maps/settings, i didn't bother as the bike as tons of power for me at 80kg (176Lb), and the 48mm KYB suspension 12inch travel is awesome ....however... the plastic free piston/compression piston top of fork is prone to cracking after SUBSTANTIAL suspension abuse, i changed my over to an alloy ZETA brand that has slots on its sides that give a more progressive compression damping feel and man what a difference that made to my riding enduro trails. You're correct in Australia the WR450F can be registered for on road / highway use. One more thing, my bike been punished, back flipped on high country steep trails, completely submerged laying on its side during a failed river crossing i thought by now electricals would suffer from that, but no issue at all. So far 5000km all enduro trails, starts first time all the time, tank range for me is anywhere around 75km to 110kmh depending on ride aggression, great bike

I ride an 03 WR450F, and I agree with him. The suspension is great, the power is awesome and manageable. I have FMF exhaust and done mostly free mods, it is a wonderful bike. I would like to up grade to a newer WR with fuel injection, but this one is still running great. You don't see very many used for sale for a reason.

Great review and nice footage from the H trail and R mountain road! My only gripe would be that the WRs are red sticker now, I believe. And if that's the case, might as well go with the FX model. No uncorking and yes, slightly stiffer suspension but problem still okay on the trails you were riding. And even better on the track. I'll be at Yamaha demo days next weekend in Pala.

This is another great video. People usually beat up 450's for trail work. True they are heavy, but the power is great. I have an uncorked RMX450 which is very similar to this bike. I geared it way down to handle eastern woods and rocks with a 12t/51t. It will go up anything from idle and handles technical stuff with ease. Also helps to have a Rekluse CX 😉. Cheers!

I owned a 2020 250FX for a month. Monster little bike. So much fun and smiles most of the time I rode it. I am 6'0" 220 lbs and that 250 ripped far more than I expected.. Suspension was amazing for fast open desert and nice flowy track. In slow technical over rocks and really tight track it was terrible though. Flame out after flame out regardless of the map I was running, and how good I was with clutch control. It is not built for technical trails. Amazing machine though if you get to try one. I sold it and got a 2020 Beta 300 Xtrainer after I did a Beta Factory Demo Day and love it to death. Such a tractor of bike. A big part of me still wants a 4 stroke in the garage for the faster rides in my area. I am really looking at the new WR250F because Yamaha has done a stellar job with that new 250F motor. No need for a 450. So much power out of that 250!!

Its one of the best mods besides the free mods and comp ecu

Wr450 would definitely be high on my list, plus husky 450fx and ktm 450xcf i guess, i would also consider yamaha 450fx. With 105kg you would need to get stiffer suspension to be able to really use it well. Stock can also work for cruising around, but if you want to get really serious you should look into dialing your suspension. Have fun!

I've found that the muti-function display is kinda hard remember how to work it. The the race mode, lap timer, tire diameter scale, and the second trip meter is something I'd never use. I wish the muti-function display would have a odometer, engine hour meter for sevice intervals, and a fuel gauge instead. Also, even though the WR has a bigger fuel tank than the YZ, it's still not enough. I can only get around 80 miles before the fuel light comes on. I have a lot of range anxiety with this bike, and I don't want to carry extra fuel on my person for obvious reasons. Lastly, I'm getting older so, I think my 2019 WR will be my last new dirt bike. The WR 450F matches my track/trail riding style very well.

I have the 2019 YZ450FX. I bought a WR450 muffler and put the performance tip in it. It quiets the bike down so much that you hear the intake noise more than the exhaust note. It's good for areas where I don't want to make a lot of noise. The open YZ exhaust is a huge performance gain over the WR exhaust but it is very loud!! I only realized it after riding 350 EXC-F the whole day while not getting tired at all basically. I don't wanna wear myself out and lose my appetite for riding after a long break with a 450.
