2015 Yamaha WR450f
'15 WR250F, 330hrs, never been apart. Still has the factory blue coolant in it.
Like new performance.
Best bike ever (50 yrs experience).
right on!!
280h for a wr 450 is nothing. I did 1000+ hours with stock engine (enduro), only valve checks.
But, BUT, I want to see that build!!! 😊
What year?
I have a 2016 WR450F and it's my favorite, absolutely love it! This will be an interesting project, looking forward to following it.
Just bought 2015 WR450F with 50 hrs and stock tires, it still had issues such as tires, clutch cable, missing skid plate, chain guard. But it did come with gytr kit/ecu/tuner/fmf muffler. Used hybrid tune for 2016, replaced cable, tires, and skid plate. Its killer. Good luck fixing, I’ll be watching
I have an 06 steel frame and it's as nice as any showroom bike ....have lot of time and cash invested in it but I love it ....still hasn't seen dirt since I started rebuild during covid lock downs ....and the motor was already done when I bought it from a yamaha certified mechanic ...it was his baby ...never raced ...never even run hard ....and he had spared no expense building the engine ....it's a handful but I love it ...
Thanks for sharing Donald, great bikes for sure!
Very cool build, excited to see what the wear is at 280 hrs.
yea, me too! we will open her up soon
I have also been riding 55 years. I get new bikes every year or two but I love my 2013 wr450. My favorite bike ever. Dirt Bike magazine tested it when it came out & raved about it's handling & I agree. Love this bike.
I have a 2016 Wr450f and absolutely love it!
right on!
Can’t wait to see the build process!
You should consider, since you will have the head completely stripped down anyway, have the ports smoothed out from a good tuner, nothing crazy just smooth out the intake and exhaust runners, it helps throttle response, power gain from low to high rpm, better fuel economy, 4 stroke builds are very expensive but that is one of the best WR models ever and it will be an excellent desert bike.
I have a 2007 WR250F and its the best dirt bike I've ever owned. And I've had brand new modern KTMs, Huskies, etc. Something about it just makes everything so easy when things get rough. Its like a vulcan mind meld :) Definitely a pain in the ass to work on though compared to the Austrian bikes!
I have a 2007 in Australia. Love it. Never had an hour meter on it, but done 15,000+km and hasn’t missed a beat except for some indicator wires breaking… oh, i did rebuild shock at about 10k, and forks a few hundred Km’s ago.
@@keithtarrier4558 Funny you mention the shock rebuild. Im giving mine some winter maintenance at the moment. Just greased the suspension and have the shock out to rebuild it, when I get parts in.
Glad to know my 05 wr450f isnt even halfway through its engine life! Currently at 125 hours after my engine overhaul. Seems to be running better each hour that goes by 😂 the GOAT
those bikes are amazing!
I have a WR250F and LOVE it. The only two complaints, I wish I got a 450 and the seat is incredibly hard for an off-road bike.
great bikes for sure!
I know the feeling, my beta race edition seat is like a 2x4, but I stand a hell of a lot more than I used to and it has improved my technique and fitness! Reminds me of the video I saw of Big James Stewart removing the kids seats and having them stand around the track and they didn’t get their seat back until they could hit a certain lap time w/ no seat! Lol
I just got the 2022 WR450F in the spring, it’s been an amazing bike for the woods. After uncorking it made it so much better. I have a few videos about it.
right on, great bike!
Right on! Interested to see what you come up with on the WR because it's one of the big bores I am considering.
Had a dealer guy tell me rather emphatically that I'd "blow a rod out the side of the case," if'n I ever licensed it for the road lol. (evidently, the WR has that problem, you know) I listened to how much I needed a big BMW and the WR as my "one" bike. For some reason, it did not sink in. I just bowed to his eminence and left the building, never to annoy his grace again.
cant wait for this build
thanks Nick, me too! ;)
I have a 2012 WR450F and in my humble opinion it's so far the best 450 4 stroke off road bike I've ever ridden. I've ridden them all and I've been riding Motorcycles for 55 years. It's not that it's the fastest. It's because it's so easy to ride and handles better than it's competition. It's so far my favorite 4 stroke off road bike still to this day. And yes I like it better than the new WR. Also mine is set up for the woods and single Track trails. Also I did install a Recluse clutch and it works great on this bike. My bike is far from stock off the show room floor but I did leave the inside of the motor stock because why fix what's not broke and its after the tuning is perfection. If you want to know more about what I did to my WR just message me back. I'm in northern California.
yes Tim, I would like to know more about your bike. Can you email me dirtniron7@gmail.com
thanks
I am curious , i have the same bike csn i ask please ? And which rekluse did you put in ? Thank you , Mike
Can't wait for this one
Looking forward to the rebuild. I’ve got a 2015 as well and would love to follow a step by step rebuild in the future once you are finished.
Very excited for this series!
Hallo Rado & Guys, I have also one of the BEST Dirt bike ever.... WR450F (2006) and I love it. Its amaizing Beast, couse I have totaly open, Leo Vince Exhaus, PowerBomb, home made hydraullic Clutch, some tunning cover and so on.... So I am very exciting for this project. I can"t wait for forward
Thanks for sharing Lukas, that must be a sweet bike!
This is a great idea, I'm looking forward to see how you like it when finished.
Greetings friend, great video. I have a similar wr.!!! I await the next video to see how that engine is after 280 hours of use
I am curious too!
I had the 09 so same motor but carb. I now have a ktm 500 but miss my 450 dearly. Mine was fully adv setup with tall gearing so highway speeds with the 5 speed were still totally manageable. The WR was like sewing machine smooth compared to my ktm. The Rekluse is a crucial part to make a 450 more capable in the tight stuff IMO. I would love to take on a similar project in the near future.
Thanks for sharing Todd!
Looks like a fun project
Interested to see what the wear will be. I had a 2004 450f that I bought used a few years back. I have no clue how many hours the original first owner put on the bike - he had it for 14 years. But I know that I put 300hrs myself and the bike was still pulling strong.. most of the money and time I had to spend was on the carburetor. Those engine are sure build to last... I sold it and treated myself with a brand new '21 WR450. I love those bike, although for the type of riding that I do I find the '21 suspension less comfy than the plushy one from the 04.
thanks for sharing Sebastien!
Always was interested in these bikes but never got to ride one. looking forward to this build.
So pumped for this build!
I have recently got a road legal 2014 wr450f here in nz. Through very tight single track the throttle is a little jerky off bottom, clutch a tad heavy, and bike is prone to boil over. I thought about exhaust, ecu, and power tuner to clean up the bottom, but can’t find the old competition kit online anymore, so I’m going to try a throttle tamer, lower gearing, moose easy pull clutch lever (maybe 3 x yz250f clutch springs), and radiator fan. Besides from that it’s a great running and feeling machine. Just had suspension serviced and heavier springs because stock was a bit wallowy. Probably overdue for an engine rebuild too 😅
It makes a great supermoto.
We want to see this thing in action let’s go!
I have the same bike with a plate on it it's awesome and it actually does Pretty Good on a motocross track. I just rebuilt two of these engines that had high miles on them I would replace the water pump shaft and balancer shaft that it's driven by look at it very closely they were rounded off pretty definitely don't want that to fail on you on a ride
I really want a WR450 😀
Hey maybe one day right 😉
I wish you good luck for Christmas
Have 2008, but little hours on, I’m talking about me, the bike have more than 21.000 km. A lot of power, a dreamed suspension.
right on, thanks for sharing!
It would be an awesome bike, can't wait to see it
Can’t wait to get bike on our single track!!!
Can you do a step by step of the rebuild? I'm going to be doing the same thing to my 2013
yes Joe, thats the plan!
I'd like to see that too. I also own a 2013 and it still has the stock piston but still rips.
May as well just buy a brand new WR450F if yer gong thru all that with this one.👽
That's cool Rado ; you payed more for all those goodies than I could afford I hope you really get to enjoy it when it's built.
Are you having Brad at Power Pro build ur motor? 🤙
How much would this cost plus labor in a shop ?
Check out Stefen Merrimans 2012 wr450 build and have a close look. Hint, they remove the spacer under the top tripple clamp ;) it's more of a yz250f than a wr450
I did, interesting build! thanks
Probably still runs fine if it’s been maintained
Torq drive rekluse is best hits harder have it on my 450
Also factory or vertex piston avoid the wiseco it doesn't stand up to abuse like factory same with their cranks
Yup, I’ve never been impressed with wiseco pistons, seen too many of them fail way too soon. Yamaha OEM is tougher than nails and worth the cost.
@@Natedoc808 yeah I would use a pro X piston over a wiseco tbh but yeah yamaha one will last an other 280hr
450 in the 250 frame? wow... that sounds great, did not know about that.
It must me great for shorter people like me. I would motocross and dual sport the shizle out of that bike!
How much in total was the full rebuild?
Does anyone know what is the most durable engine for dirt-bikes ( Enduro ) . I don’t like the rebuilding engine year .
GYTR tuner, GYTR ECU, slip on pipe, open air box up, YZ cams, thing will be a ripper!
I have it all except for the cams
Hi Rado , just recently bought the 2023 wr 450 it’s awesome , still have my 2003 450 which I bought new back then and never had a problem with it and am in two minds to sell it , so Rado should I hang on to it ? The main reason being is that i would only ask between four to five k for it and have checked out various sites on wrs for sale down here 🇦🇺 and the average price is between four to five k and some depending on the condition , back in 2003 I think I payed a little over 13k for it on road . So?
hi Michael, first of all congrats! I used to have same model WR450 few years ago and it was super fun bike, that uncorked carbureted power put smile on my face each time I twisted the throttle! However, with new model (I had 2019) I dont see myself riding 2004 that much.. new bikes just do everything better and are easier to ride so at the end of the day you get more fun out of your ride and I think thats what matters the most. Go out for ride and have the best possible time. So.. if its me, I would sell 2003 and let someone else enjoy it while I would be clocking hours on 2023 ;)
good luck mate!
Broooo i a broke exhaust valve on my 12' WR450f at end of last season, got the valve replaced and reshimmed it myself not to long ago, was crazy though the tip one the valve just snapped right off. buddy at my dealer said hes never seen anyting like it before. Bike seems to be running good now just not hot starting very good for some reason, i put an fmf powercore Hex 4 on it so was wonderimng if that had anyting to do with it, i have the GYTR power tuner i remapped to the "hybrid" map sense i put the fmf on. i also need to use the choke for cold starting it which i never had to before,i have set the bike to 1800-1900rpm at idle. My 12 wr450 only has one knob for both the "fuel screw" and "idel screw" so maybe i just need to increase to get more fuel off start up? ive also seen that it could be my co settings?
any tips? advice would be awesome!!
Nice Bike you have everything at tips for
Glad you think so! thanks Barry
I have the exact bike, currently its quite wild at the bottom range for woods riding, i know it can be tuned with power module. Are you going to smooth out the low end response and what would you recommend ?
Never put a Chinese part on a bike, or anything for that matter, that you want to be reliable.
Been wondering what they are like to ride
Can you buy new two stroke street legal in California?
No, not anymore
A total rebuild with less than 300 hours on it - WHY? Do you like throwing money away or what man?
wait you can make dirt bikes street legal here in california???
You sure can I have the same bike with a plate in California
@@brianvoegeli5067 you’ve converted it from dirt to street title here in california? i’ve heard people doing that with family residence in arizona then coming back out here
For a while you could get a dual registration for it have a off-road registration and a full separate one for license plate
I HATE WISECO PISTONS ...Go factory you wont regret it.
That's silly I been building race motors with wiseco pistons for 20+ yrs .
@@wrenchone5003 key word “race motors”.
Go OEM especially on a bike that might be street ridden and mostly trail rode.
