So glad to see love for "Picnic at Hanging Rock." When it came out in America, a lot of people assumed it was based on a real incident and when I said I had seen it, they would ask "So who do you think killed the girls?"

Good list! Great to see younger generations loving older films. I wish there were more modern anthology films. I thought that after the masterful Trick R Treat (the best of the best when it comes to horror anthology!) that we’d see a new trend. But that failed to happen.

Loved your list! I love 70s horror! It's my favorite and you chose a lot of my faves. I know you mentioned how you liked Craven's "The Hills Have Eyes", but you decided to go with other choices instead. Although I recommend watching another of Craven's film from 1972 called "The Last House on the Left". Personally I find the original more disturbing and deranged than the remake. Sorry for your loss, RIP Dave.
The 1970s were probably the most proficient decade in Italian Horror, so there's an embarassment of riches adding to the international classics, and a few are simply amazing.
Two of my favorite are La Casa Dalle Finestre Che Ridono (1976) which follows a young restaurator as he works on a fresco in a church in a small Northern Italian town and finds out that the fresco's author, named 'The Painter Of Agonies', has a dark legacy that haunts the town...
And Il Profumo Della Signora In Nero (1974), a story of a young woman whose dark past and her mother's tragic death suddenly come back to haunt her after a seemingly innocent night out with her boyfriend.
I love the early Cronenberg. The Brood, yes, but also Shivers (1975) and Rabid (1977).

I love that you mentioned Don't Look Now! I feel like every time I bring it up in horror circles, no one is ever familiar with it. And it's such a shame, that ending, and that pervasive feeling of impending doom will stick with me forever. There are certain traumas and tragedies that will never let us go, and that grief is it's own form of death even among the living 😬

Excellent list Emma. The 70's had so many good (great) horror films it is very hard to pick favorites ,much like films from the 60's would be, so good job on a great decade of stuff to choose from, kudos to you. I have the film Deliverance in with my horror film collection because it is so horrifying (along with Straw Dogs 1972), so i would call it a horror movie ( his dream at the ending and the scene of the water alone tells me that ). A few honorable mentions for me would be; Cry Of The Banshee 1970 ( V.Price ), The Vampire Lovers ( Carmilla ) 1970, Brian De Palma's- Sisters 1973, Trilogy Of Terror 1975, Dario Argento's- Deep Red 1975, Twins Of Evil 1971, Satanico Pandemonium 1977, Blood Freak 1972, Duel 1971, Daughters Of Darkness 1971, The Last House On The Left 1972, and of course so many others. I really liked your picks of Alice, Sweet Alice , The Abominable Dr.Phibes, Evening Of E.A.Poe, House, The Omen, and the very creepy The Brood , all of which are fantastic. Can't wait for the 1960's, and please do a video on the great Aussie horror flicks, i love it. Like your smile, and love your style. Thanx. Bob.G

Excellent job on the video, Emma. What an amazing decade for horror and you covered all the essentials. There were a couple of films you listed that I am not a fan of (along with a couple of films I wish weren't missing), but that is the beauty of horror fans. We all have our own individual tastes in what scares us. That being said, here are some of my favorites in 1970s horror:
    THE DUNWICH HORROR (1970)
    SEE NO EVIL (1971)
    FRENZY (1972)
WESTWORLD (1973) - Legend Of Hell House very close second
    BLACK CHRISTMAS (1974)
    JAWS (1975)
    BURNT OFFERINGS (1976)
    KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS (1977)
LONG WEEKEND (1978) - Halloween very close second
    ALIEN (1979)

Hi,love your analysis about horror movies and one that that did not made your list and for me was very scary when I was younger was the Steven Spielberg 1971 classic Duel, where the monster in that movie is a truck driver chasing down a man across a road in the mountain of southern California highway, take a peek if you have never seen it,keep it up,ty.

I’m sure your other lists are great too. But a list with TCM, Halloween, Suspiria, Alien, and Hausu. That’s murderer’s row (literally & Figuratively) of horror movies. Definitely going to check out some of these Hidden Gems.
