Okay, I'm gonna have to stop and say thank you for giving I Still Know What You Did Last Summer some love. Yes, it's cheesy. No, it doesn't make logical sense. Yes, it's bad... But it's also so so so good. I have to give it credit. The 90s were not a particularly brutal time for horror slashers. The late 90s teen horror craze, while spear-headed by Scream, which IS a very gory and graphic film, were not particularly gory. I Still Know, however, was actually fairly graphic and violent, which I thought was a very cool and surprising choice. Also, it has a great late 90s soundtrack that started my childhood obsession with Bijou Phillips.

  • @horrorfan1930

I just saw "I Know What You Did Last Summer" for the first time last year, after reading the novel which it's based on. It's a strange situation where both the novel and film are actually quite good, but for different reasons. I even went ahead and watched "I Still Know...," which was not GREAT, but was a very fun watch. I haven't watched "I"ll Always Know..." yet, amidst suggestion from other horror fans.

Blair Witch is in the conversation for best horror movie of all time. Other than being so well done, it captured a moment that can never be repeated: people did not know if it was real or not. Incredible timing for that campaign, which played it as if it was real. In 1999 the internet definitely did not have all the answers, it had very few in fact. We depended on magazines and TV. Imagine that. Even I questioned its authenticity initially.
But I think my second favorite horror movie from that decade came from the same year, Japanese horror film Audition. I think the horror/metaphors in the movie suggest her childhood trauma, what's happening in her mind as the relationship plays out. The final scene is her coup de grace and is definitely real, no metaphors. Loved it.

When she imitated “What are you waiting for?!” for ‘I know what you did last summer’ - did anyone else’s mind instantly jump to the first ‘scary movie’ film with Anna Faris as Cindy? 😂

    You have awesome taste \m/

  • @TheOverlordOfProcrastination

I was stunned the Exorcist III wasn't in there until you mentioned it at the end.
Not only is it one of the greatest horror movies of the 90s it's one of the greatest horror movies - period.
The most underrated if all horror films.
Incredible dialogue, blood chilling atmosphere and one of the greatest scares seen in any movie - if you don't know about it.

Really enjoyed this one Emma. I think the 90s is the best decade for all movies as whole to be honest just above the 80s. Some great films in there and some good picks by yourself 👍

spookyastronauts, unless you have done so already, will you do a 70s film review? I think this decade outdoes even the 80s for the genre (Alien, Carrie, Deliverance, The Exorcist, The Omen etc). I just discovered your channel today and it is a sheer and insightful delight.

I consider the 90s as a fallow decade for horror. Although I think there were definitely fewer horror movies overall, there are some real gems. The Ring, Candyman, Army Of Darkness, In The Mouth Of Madness, Interview With A Vampire, Man Bites Dog, Misery, The Ninth Gate.... are some of my faves.
