- n this interview, we welcome Edwin Van De Sar. The man who went from player to CEO, who won four Eredivisie titles, four Premier League Crowns and the Champions League, among many other accolades in his career.
At the time of recording, was the Chief Executive of the football club. We talked about the scrutiny, we talk about the criticism, the questions, the pain and the impact on his family. Of course, we also talk about his playing days. What he learned at Manchester United, what it was like in that great Ajax team.
A couple of days after the conversation, it was announced that Edwin had decided to quit as the CEO Ajax. So this now lives as the final interview that he gave as the CEO.

Wishing this legend a speedy recovery 🙏
Speedy recovery Edwin we’re all hear for u love and prayers to his family and friends ❤
Thumbs up for the choice of guest for this round. You can tell EVDS went through a lot recently, but surely he will bounce back. Football management is far more complicated than playing football, since huge efforts do not always contribute to positive outcome.
I adore Edwin. I hope he returns to United as CEO soon
Stay strong Edwin!❤
Can you imagine Woodward or Arnold at Utd giving this kind of interview? Met EvdS in Lisbon airport a couple of years ago with his Ajax staff - a smart, modest, down to earth, genuine guy that had time for fans. Under a new ownership, him as CEO and Ten Hag as manager would totally change the philosophy at the club.
What a guy! Cool as they come, need him at United when he’s recovered. Get well soon Edwin.
Praying for you GOAT! 🙏
Easily my favourite all time keeper what a podcast this has been
Greatest goalkeeper united has ever had in my opinion, just wish we had got him sooner. What a guy
100% agree. I am not sure why he isn't mentioned in the same bracket as schmeichal... in my opinion he was better. And one of the first GKs who mastered played from the back, was super comfortable on the ball.
Recency bias prevails again. Schmeichal was the greatest goalkeeper in the world in his prime. VDS was close but the Great Dane won a European championship with Denmark 🇩🇰 and was pivotal in United’s 1999 treble winning season. He was an absolute beast!
@@Makainternational recency bias?
"he was not as good as everyone says he was" Roy Keane quote, verbatim on multiple occasions.
Also, VDS first started at utd in 05.... not that recent mate. VDS part of utd's greatest team in 08.
Without doubt. No frills, did what was absolutely necessary with no fireworks and calmed the entire team in order to build United from a team who were great domestically but progressed further in Europe. Considering how great Edwin was, I really cannot understand the praise from De Gea.
Edwin was a keeper of goal, like Buffon or Manuel Neuer, De Gea was a fabulous shot stopper. Edwin was brilliant, unassuming, calm, accomplished with both feet, did the small aspects of the position so well. Watch back the highlights from that time (I was luck enough to have an OT ST at the time), Vidic, Rio, Evans etc would never give him a backpass within the width of the posts, to minimise the risk of a bobble and concession of a needless goal. He would always tip the ball around the post for a corner than do anything spectacular. A cerebral keeper who paved the way for everything we now expect from keepers, and is criminally underrated.
Agreed, for me Van Der Sar just tips it over Schmeichel, because VdS was great at commanding the box, playing with the ball at his feet, collecting crosses, organizing his defense, and he never made those front page worthy saves because his positioning was world class!
Great great podcast always quality to the table
Legend Edwin.
Edwin VanderSaar - what a man!
I see someone else has recommended it below and it's a great idea, try get Dennis Irwin on the podcast! A quiet unassuming legend. Played left and right back, scored goals in play, via free kicks and pens. One of Fergie's best signings and he's Irish!
The inverted fullback before it was cool 😂
Edwin laughing about the time Van Gaal got his players to do psychology tests so he could learn their individual learning styles and adapt his communication accordingly was quite revealing.
could you give me the timestamp of this? :)
Where is that?
Great interview
That shade on Chelsea was delivered perfectly low-key
Could be another David Gill type individual we need
His last year as ajax ceo mustve been energy snapping. Overmass, ETH, lot of good players left, and ofc the decision to hire Anthony Hopkins as manager.
Praying for you, Edwin🙏. Get well soon.
Legend
intro so good i subscribed
I was going to say great podcast but it really those which animate the brand that are behind its absolutness. Much love.
Loving the content guys but I have a challenge. Get Dennis Irwin on the podcast! Never hear a peep from him and I'd love to. One of my favourite players growing up.
wonderful
GOAT🐐
I hope you get better mate and I hope you survive and get better aswell
united needs you
Bournemouth shout out from the goat
Edwin VDS one of the best MUFC goalkeeper along with great Dane Peter Schmeichel
I really enjoyed this interview. When Edwin speaks in Dutch is kinda awkward and boring, but in English I found it is quite interesting.
Hope you make a full recovery.
United there's your chance our legend 💪 is available
A lot has happened in the last two years behind the scenes at Ajax. Funny how they seem not to have addressed that at all. Great player, but struggled in the hard times as a director.
It's hard when it's a transition period with unexpected off field issues they will be back
People always forget that Van Der Sar spent the prime of his career at Fulham. He was an exceptional keeper. Was a joy to have him at FFC
Ehm we do not forget. We disagree. His time at Ajax and man utd before fulham.
Any chance for time stamps ?thanks
Pretty much every United fan would hope to see Edwin either as CEO or Director of Football at United. When the hated Glazers are finally gone and new Owners take over, they hopefully clear out those closely associated with the former regime. We hope they themselves are fans and bring in someone who genuinely loves the Club.
Edwin is a good talker I am sure we could use him at United
He is the worst talker in Dutch. The guy can’t manage to get 2 full sentences out of his mouth 😂
Can't belive I've only just found this channel...subscribed 😁👍
Jake: How was your imposter syndrome?
Edwin: *stares* my what?
Classic Dutch
🤣
Come back to Man Utd Edwin ❤❤❤
He's Manchester bound I hope.
be careful what you wish for. EVDS is an empty vessel
Why do you hope so? He's done a pretty terrible job
@@thingsicantfind9545 I don't think he has.
It must be hard for Ajax to always be losing players. Incredible recruitment
It's not that hard. Especially not when you're the biggest club in the country and you've been making unbelievable amounts of profit with almost every single one of those signings

Without Marc Overmars by his side as a technical director, Van der Sar really made a mess of things. They managed to screw up not one signing, not two....no pretty much all signings. That cost them a fortune. Also, he can't keep the staff together....people don't like him that much to say the least. Overmars was the glue that kept everything together, Van der Sar screws things up. If United is thinking about bringing him in......don't! Bring in Overmars instead and get some club director who focuses on the commercial side of things but leaves the football to the technical staff. Edwin has no self reflection.....if anything good happens, he did it and anything bad that happens wasn't his fault. You don't want people like that unless you have other strong people next to him balancing that out.
Why did overmars get fired again?
@@FountainOfYoot nope still in Belgium. But they could try, wouldn’t be a bad choice.
@@hiufgterde lol I asked why Overmars got fired. From Ajax. That could be one of the reasons he's languishing in Belgium and not in any top European team. Don't need any more greenwood adjacent drama in United. Paul Mitchell could be a better appointment for united.
@@FountainOfYoot well that's a well known story actually. He sent a few dickpics to some of the female staff and after that he resigned hehe.
@@FountainOfYoot He was sending dickpics of himself, if you @ united dont mind that, he'll be a great technical director
Come to utd, join the rebuild and take them back to glory days. #glazersout
11zz-2😮😊😊
Come to Man UTD!
You have to get Louis van Gaao on here!!!
*Gaal

The thing is, I love you 2 and the questions you ask etc., BUT I dont care about Sportsball XD
Eddie should apply at United once takeover is confirmed regardless of who is the successful bidder is.
Long story short... When overmars did go.. Everything got lost.. All the knoweless is gone.
Ten Hag was too successful for Ajax. Everyone wanted him & his team so they all left and Ajax suffered hugely.
Lol, asking a Dutchie about imposter syndrome 😅
Lets be honest, he`s a bit boring and is never really outspoken. But that part of him, composed and calm helped him a lot to develop as a football director. It`s also hard to judge what he brought that club. Overmars had a big hand in developing the squad and if that squad has succes, everyone within that club is viewed upon as being successful. After Overmars was caught sending pictures of his d#ck to various women and had to leave signings and development came to a halt. Wrong coach, older players that had still the power of the dressingroom but were not playing like they did before because they had players like De Ligt and De Jong around them kind of says wrong decisions were taken. And in what way can you put a little of that blame on VDS? We can not say, because we are not in.
Always get the impression he is a bit of a 'company man' which is probably quite good for big teams where there is so much intense scrutiny. Maybe less useful for smaller teams where you need innovative disrupters to make up for the lack in resources.
The image on the thumbnail seems so relevant now given his brain bleed! Get well soon, legend!
Shut up edwin, you’ve done more interviews in the 3 months you’ve been here then I have in the 12 and half years I’ve been here
He mismanaged, was indecisive and invisible. Big fail. Good keeper, not a manager.
spot on
Are you dumb ? They lost the manager and so many players .
💉💉 *NO REFUNDS.* 💉💉
Exactly my thoughts
Sacked Marc Overmars who was responsible for much success and stability for a few messages 🎉😂
@JGZ unprofessional and inappropriate messages. Maybe u do the same thing on the side so u can relate 🤷♂️
Marc Overmars had inappropriate behavior towards women and it was real not fake. So keep supportring disgusting behavior
High Jake,
The more subs you get the more money you get and I’m pretty sure that you are friendly with enough high profile people in the world of sports that you can attract top sport men and women. You’ve worked as a sport presenter long enough for that to be the case. Just be honest.
