Best in camera time-lapse. The Panasonic LUMIX line delivers!

  • To me the time-lapse video in all videos is super super important. I have, in the past, used a pretty cheap Panasonic TM700 to record time lapses of anything that I have done. More often than not, I end up not using them. But when I do use them, they are indispensable. They are excellent to mark the passage of time.
    I have a blog on this
    jacquesgaines.com/the-importan...
    The TM700 is getting old and its soul function in my bag is to be for time lapse. My assistant even calls it that now. Enter the new kid on the block. The Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 bridge camera
    I have owned the Panasonic DMC FZ1000 for a little over nine months. It is a great peace of gear that compliments, sometimes matches, and surpasses my current professional photo video gear. It also offers a load of on board fucntions that I believe to be super important in the creation of great video and photographic content.
    In this video, I go through how to optimize the on board time-lapse functions. I also show some of the little hidden gems of the on board timelapse. I navigate through the camera menu system to show you where this camera shines.

      I could talk about how to get the best out of this camera for sure. I will post something but cannot promise you when. What do you suggest for an interval for say, a gradual sunset or sunrise timelapse, if you know you willl only be using a single battery?
    If I close the LCD while the timelapse is being captured, that should shut the screen off to save power, right?

    • @JacquesGaines
      @JacquesGaines  Před 7 lety

      I believe that almost all intervals should be under 30seconds. If you are doing a full day, things might be different. Sunrose or sunset I would go anywhere between 12 and 20 seconds
      You do not have to worry about the LCD it shuts itself off anyway.

    Is it possible for you to show me how to adjust my Panasonic FZ-1000 for shooting silky waterfalls and river water ?
    It's difficult to me because i have bought this camera a few weeks ago..
    What basicly i need to know is : do i need to set a time lapse if i've set a 4sec. shutter speed allready for waterfall shooting and how to do this?
    Thanks in advance!

    • @JacquesGaines
      @JacquesGaines  Před 7 lety

      Here is my humble opinion. To do the silky waterfall effect you need long exposures when the camera does take a picture. Aperture and ISO might not be enough to get the silk look. Therefore, you will need a really strong ND filter to be able to expose longer than natural eye opening (example 1/4 second or even 1 second) As for your interval, I have never done the waterfall thing but my guess is something rather short. 4 seconds seems reasonable. To get the water to look like cotton though. Experiment with long exposures and an ND filter.

    • @todor55
      @todor55 Před 7 lety

      Thanks for the reaction!
      I'll try wthout a nd filter and i'm pretty covinced that is possible to get a good resolts.. may be i'll try 1.5 second then 2.5 and finally 4 seconds..

    I have experimented with time lapse on my fz1000 and I am having trouble getting the lense to resume at exactly the same spot on anything other than wide angle when I set an interval over 30s when camera turns off to save power.
    Lens seems to resume at a slightly different spot every time it switches back on making the resulting video jump in and out rapidly on playback. I have tried the zoom resume function. Have you experienced this or do I have a faulty unit?
    Thanks in advance.

    • @JacquesGaines
      @JacquesGaines  Před 6 lety

      Yes I have. A bit of the nature of the beast. I have whole timelapses that screwed up because of that very problem.I believe the key is to go in and take power saving off in the menus. Let know if that helps

    • @mattburrows2615
      @mattburrows2615 Před 6 lety +1

      Jacques Gaines Photography thanks for the idea however if you mean "economy/sleep mode" it doesn't stop lens retraction/sleep in timelapse.
      I spoke to Panasonic and all they came up with in the end is that I can return the
      camera ):-/
      I see several others have been annoyed by this "feature" and one user suggested to use stop motion as there is a 1min delay before lens retraction.
      One of the main reasons why I bought this camera was for the assumed versatility of the timelapse.
      Looks like I'm stuck with wide angle which isn't too bad appart wear and tear on lens system/motor.
      If only they left the darn lens in place during time lapse intervals what were they thinking since most people would be using external power for such a task?
      Such an easy firmware mod to give us the option but they won't do it unless a ton of people complain. >:-f

If it is a question of space, just make sure that your images are the same size as the video you will be rendering.
