    What a shame it doesn't have higher bit rates at 1080p. I love the picture quality. I tested the macro setting yesterday and was very happy with the photos. I need to keep learning more about it. It has a lot of potential.

    I have one of these cameras and agree with this video review. A great camera, it does exceptionally good video, and takes great photos. I used to have a Canon 5D Mk II and appreciate the much lighter camera and all in one lens.
    I use a Tascam TM-2X microphone which draws power from the camera through the audio jack. Using the Tascam I cannot hear any stabiliser or zoom noise with video filming. The camera noise is quite prominent when just using the internal microphones.
    Last Saturday I did on and off short filming of a surfing event from 8am to 3pm before I needed to change the battery. Around 14Gb of 1080p 50fps video. Previously I have done photoshoots of over 300 raw photos before needing to change the battery.
    Two real benefits of having a 4K video sized sensor are on the fly tilt correction in 1080p mode to make the horizon level up, and an excellent digital zoom which extends the zoom range for video from the 31mm-500mm optically to 31mm-992mm.

    • @serendigity
      @serendigity Před 9 lety +3

      ***** I did not notice much of a drain. Compared with the motor moving the lens in and out and the optical stabilisation systems and the LCD screen or viewfinder being on, the microphone really draws very little power. I have a second Panasonic brand battery, for longer trips away, but I feel for most people one battery will be enough for an average day out, even using a Tascam Mic.

Recently shot a High School Football game and was getting nice zoomed shots and with the press of a button had quick action video. No need to put it in movie mode because it records video in any mode. Time Lapse feature is a nice add. The balance of the camera is a little off though. It always ends up on it's head when I place it in the passenger seat. Also you need to watch your fingers when you turn it off because the lens automatically collapses and it will pinch the crap out of you.

    For artistic docu and hobby vlogers I see these FREE aspects:
    Great 4k, 120fps at 1080, 20mp stills, great macro lens (3cm), fully automated time laps (set and forget), Leica lens f 2.8-4.0 with jarring 25-400 zoom range.....
    This camera creates loads of contemporary, B-Roll content with minimal extra work.
    Film a scene in 4k and pick that perfect still photo, where every single detail is in place. -You'd miss it a thousand times with an SLR and your clumsy trigger finger. - why are classic movie stills always so great ????

  • @KeepinItReelFishing
    @KeepinItReelFishing Před 9 lety +2

    Ed - I'm one of the many who is considering this camera and the RX10. Having watched your reviews of the RX10 you really emphasized how you got more "keepers" on that than most everything else you use. Also, you stressed the absolute perfection of that lens and its seamless marriage to sensor. I know that was then (a year ago) and this is now but, in your opinion, are those elements still top tier when compared to the FZ1000? One other quick question.... I think I've been holding out so long because I feel that Sony will inevitably respond at some point with a RX10 Mark 2 or RX20. Having a little bit of extra reach (12X or 16X) would seal the deal for me. I've searched around and haven't found any information of value. Would you know of anything on the next generation RX10? Thanks so much - Carl

    The fz300 can shoot 4k in ia also 600 mm equivalent with 2.8 full zoom... also has touch screen and wifi... also cheaper price but smaller sensor some dust and weather seal to boot

    • @brianellsworth4767
      @brianellsworth4767 Před 8 lety

      The pixel density might be the same as the fz1000. When shooting 4K it crops into the sensor at 8 megapixels.. That will increase your zoom and reduce your field of view at wide angle .The fz 300 also has a 5 times crop factor . This will increase you DOF and make bokeh more difficult, but more of the picture will be in focus without post layering... The fz1000 has a 2.5 time crop factor. The new Nikon out on the market has 1.5 times crop and will crop into 3 time when shooting 4K. That camera starts at $2000 body only.The fz 300 has a sharp piece of glass. I like the fz1000 for 1080 quality when shooting high speed slow motion. The fz300 only has 750 resolution when shooting slow motion .That is the only advantage I can see. Both cameras give high quality images when shooting in good light. If you chose a more expensive camera the lens selection at 400mm or 600mm will cost thousands . There are no 600mm lenses on the market that zoom to 600mm at 2.8 aperture ,.. they are fixed lenses that cost $35,000

      I know this may be a lot of trouble but if your looking into video and don't mind a cropped image I would really recommend the GH3, its basically a copy of the FZ-1000 but can do even more but sadly can't record 4K. The t5i is nice... for soccer moms. Your going to need a pretty expensive lens if you want to get the best out of your t5i. If you have both I would shoot with both of them for a bit before you make your decision on which one to sell. and if you feel neither can really put out what you want take a look at the GH3! There are quite a few reviews on all these cameras and articles, I would recommend reading all of them and watching some peoples opinions before making your choice. Here are some important things to keep in mind
      1.) What is my setting? Will I be shooting indoors most of the time or Outside, or a little bit of both. I then would look at which has the best ISO performance.
      2.) Will I be upgrading later? If upgrading lenses is in your future your obviously going to want something with a removable lens for down the road.
      3.) "Accessories" Do you need weather sealing, wifi, mic in, headphone in, and clean HDMI?
      4.) Performance. Do you need to shoot for long periods of time or need a lot of detail in your shot?
      5.) This is really for the FZ-1000 do I have a computer that can handle the 4K because I don't see a reason to buy it if your not going to use it.
      Hope this helps
