    Oh Deere ! 🦌 appears that Deere filter is just a mini rebadged AC Delco/Champ Industries oil filter, cut up a Delco unit that's compatible & it will probably be the same exact thing

  • @msclecarcrzy
    @msclecarcrzy Před 2 lety +13

    It looks no different than an AC delco or a supertech on the inside just half the size. These filters are drastically overpriced! Should be 2 or 3 dollars for no more filter media that you are getting. Just my opinion...thanks for doing these whip

    John Deere's engine filter for most their dozers and backhoes and excavators are actually just 6 to 8$ at dealers and are top notch. Buy them by the case. Of course you could substitute them easy with a cross reference.

    Great job as always! Hey, your first OPE (outdoor power equipment) filter review. Consider going back to Home Depot or a Deere dealer and buy an Easy Change oil filter, about $40.00 + . You will probably be the first to dissect and review one. Many of Deere's current lawn tractors use this system. Probably not an after market available yet. You could also do a video on how to change the Deere engine over to a regular spin on filter, since the new system is convenient, but expensive. Just food for thought.

    Like the large inlet holes. Local dealer wants $10 for that filter. I'll go with a Fram.

  • @brandonupchurch7628
    @brandonupchurch7628 Před 2 lety +5

    For $13, I'd say go with a Fram PH3614 or Supertech MP3614, they should have more media and a silicone ADBV which I would think is more preferable on a hot air cooled engine where nitrile has a tendency to turn into a rock. In downward vertical mounted application, I'd even go with a PH3600 or PH8A if they'll fit, obviously in topward vertical mounted applications or horizontal applications, I'd recommend against using the much larger filters as they tend to add a lot of capacity and if the ADBV were to malfunction it'd probably severely overfill the sump.

    • @jamesplotkin4674
      @jamesplotkin4674 Před 2 lety +3

      We're not talking about much oil and once the engine is running it doesn't matter. A silicone ADBV isn't likely to fail anyways. I'd rather have the extra capacity as lawn and garden engines have such small amounts to begin with and the extra oil might help in cooling, too.

    • @brandonupchurch7628
      @brandonupchurch7628 Před 2 lety +1

      On a small engine, the amount of oil a PH8A can hold is very significant to the sump size and could very easily flood the engine out if the oil were to drain back into the sump.

    • @WhipCityWrencher
      @WhipCityWrencher  Před 2 lety +5

    Appreciate this. I just bought a 2022 john deere 375r zero turn mower that uses this filter and I was curious how good it was made. I'm not too picky about this but I'll still use a better filter. Not sure yet on a boutique oil but I'll more then likely just use a Napa gold/wix filter and mobil 1 euro 0w40 for now unless I decide to go boutique with high performance lubricants. Motor calls for a 10w30 but mobil 1 euro spec 0w40 for an off the shelf oil has pretty good base oil stocks as well as good zddp and detergent package in it which will help with break in. It's also very close in viscosity to a 10w30 and has a pretty low percentage of noack as well. (Less viscosity impover polymers)

    .A basic lawn tractor filter. Many have just went with the SuperTech 3614. $3. Or one of the Fram offerings. It's larger and cheaper. Ford threading. Will fit on most all tractors and most, if not all, Zero Turn mowers.

      @jerryjeromehawkins1712 Před 2 lety +2

      You're correct about the Ford type threads. On my Husqvarna Intek v-twin I use a Motorcraft fl400s. It's more than twice as big as the stock Briggs filter. 5 seasons... change the oil and filter twice per season and... so far so good.

    • @brandonupchurch7628
      @brandonupchurch7628 Před 2 lety +2

      What's the problem with Champion, for their usual market of cheap jobber filters, they're decent filters, have pretty consistent quality, regardless of you're feeling on the plastic core. The problem here isn't Champion, it's John Deere slapping paint on a $3 filter and asking $13 for it.

    • @nicolem.792
      @nicolem.792 Před 2 lety +1

      @@brandonupchurch7628 You make a good point but I’ve changed a lot of oil and opened a lot of filters and e cores are by far the worst filters at any price. Fram orange can is much better even though I wouldn’t touch one of those either. E cores count on the oil to keep the contaminants suspended to be flushed out during an oil change. They filter does next to nothing. Oil comes out as black as a moonless night. Other filters that cost pennies more, have 100 times more filtration and performance. You are correct in that the bigger crime is equipment manufacturers putting their name on this stuff and fooling people into thinking they are getting a premium “factory approved” product. Instead they are just padding their coffers with markups. Champion sells their own branded inferior products for cheap and the manufacturers take this same product and mark it up by 3 and 4 times when their name is on it. It’s never right to sell inferior products as “premium”. I’m sure there must even be laws against this but these big companies get around it.

    $13? Paying for the Deere name. In fairness OPE filters are more expensive than auto equivalents. IF room permits, 3614 equivalents like Super Tech MP3614 $5.50 (same construction) and Motorcraft 910S $4 both with silicone adbv will work instead. Or use an online oil filter cross reference to find less expensive aftermarket alternative OFs. Thanks for vid

    Nice job doing the video, but the filter is way Overpriced. Surprised at the small amount of filtering media. I've been using a WIX 51394 for the past 27 yrs on my Deere mower with no issues...less than half the price of the OEM. Agree with Rooster...what in the world is a "High Micron" filter??? It would seem to me that you would want a filter that removes particles down to a low (smaller) micron level. Also agree with Robert I...don't understand why the glue gave away cleanly from the end cap...have to wonder what it would do when subjected to hot oil.
