Yup. I have had ny job for 3 years (this one specifically) and I sing it a lot. Funny enough it summons my supervisor who immediately proceeds to pretend to boil his hand or fall or whatever stupid thing he can think of at the time.
You can and should get the flaky rust on the edges of the rotor that may get lodged between the pads and score the surface gently to give the pads some extra bite. That's perfectly fine and not sketchy. Don't lap or try to fix a rotor that's warped. Internet mechanics would say to replace the the rotor at the first sign of rust. Never listen to them.
My aftermarket Toyota Sienna replacement rotors were $70 each with a 3 year warranty. I replace them and the Warner "lifetime" pads every 3 years because I carry and tow a lot of weight. I'm not a mechanic at all and do it myself in the driveway in under 2 hours.
...you tow "a lot of weight"...with a Toyota Sienna...? Uhhhh - hate to break it to you bud, but new rotors isn't gonna turn a minivan into an appropriate tow vehicle 😅

Rotors today are thinner, and made of lighter alloys than their counterparts from 7-10 years ago. That means you can't machine them as much, and it means they're more likely to be worn down before you change the brake pads. It also means that slight machining issues can cause drastic noises and vibrations.
Correct especially when you go into a place to balance your tires and rotate they're supposed to use a wire wheel or something to remove the rust around the face where the rim is bolted up against the disc rotor or drum to remove any rust around that area
@@PistonAvatarGuy you can't resurface warped rotors without damaging the lathes cutting blade. I've worked in shops. I've resurfaced rotors myself. While at it, always see if your brake rotor foundry did their job; check for windows on the rotor that are blocked or have stickers. Automotive breaks work by converting mechanical energy into heat. Uneven rotor cooling can affect pad performance and lifespan
