    Because of your videos I finally got the proof of quality i needed to buy an MP3614 filter for my little Ford Fiesta. I had been using Wix, but have not been as happy with their new design or Motorcraft since they changed manufactures. I really wish Supertech made the FL1A equivalent filter in the MP series, but so far only the ST8 is showing. Many more are stopping production of the FL1A filter and moving to the shorter alternative filter. I guess they all work since they are 3/4" 16 thread outlets with identical gaskets.

    Nice job Whip! I rebuilt the engine on the Craftsman about 2 years ago. Honed cylinder, new piston rings, etc. It’s been a fantastic engine. Last I checked compression was still right around 147PSI. Tons of torque from this little 17HP. It always gets early oil changes because I baby it. • @faxmen09
    @faxmen09 Před rokem +2

    The Kohler OPE filter older style Champ Labs ecore with a nitrile "combo valve", (bypass and adbv in one) and polyester endcaps. Looks like ST3614 identical internals to Kohler, but for significantly less cost. MP3614 has a 'real' separate poppet type dome bypass and silicone adbv, metal endcaps. And, it's still much less expensive than the Kohler. Here MP3614 the clear winner, likely worth extra $2.50. Fyi, automotive (3614) application always less expensive than the OPE application. Some OPE are shorter than Kohler 02, so need to confirm space for longer 3614. Motorcraft 910S also a good inexpensive option for OPE. ST3614=Kohler 02, for much less $$$. MP3614 FTW. Thanks for vid. 👍

    Interesting! I run this filter on my son's '13 Ford Focus Duratech and typically go with the Supertech MP version which clearly based on your tear down is the better filter. However, this last change I went with the lower end (white) Supertech filter and do note that it actually has a black ADBV on it! So not the same as the one you show so for ~$3 less it's not actually that bad of a filter for a basic 5K oil change.

      @@01mustang05 I didn't realize that about the Motorcraft. I guess I love living dangerously! And at one time I thought the MP was made in the US by Champion Labs. @@jefweb5043 Absolutely nothing wrong with the 910S, even 'if' some supposed microscopic media view show some nebulous unconfirmed info, it isn't a reliable indicator of media efficiency. 910S an excellent value OPE option with silicone adbv and real thread end mechanical bypass. If you like it keep using it. And great call on MP3614, clear winner here. Construction FAR superior to other two. 👍 And all the filters in vid are made by Champ Labs, so you are right again. I opened one of these recently. After about 100 hours it was very clean (as expected) but the anti drain back/bypass valve appeared fairly stiff and warped (kinda) I doubt that it was working very effectively as an anti drain back valve. As Pete has recently opened a new Kohler Yellow filter they are made by a different manufacturer these days.

      Nope in the video the MP is 1.58x54 making it 85.32 sq inches just as he states, so it definitely has the smallest filtering surface capacity of the three. Now as far as I'm concerned, I want filtering first out of an oil filter, so I'd probably go with the ST before the MP for my Kohler 24hp engine, especially since it's identical to the manufacturer's recommended Kohler filter and a lot cheaper

And this day and age with the advancements and small engine technology to becoming more and more obvious to use good filtration and lubricants. I've been highly surprised about the Walmart line. @@daewooparts Yep. Lab tests don't lie. Only 3 oils better (marginally better) but at a way higher price and one was more than double..

      @@GT-mn3bx Real lab tests, certs and approvals (API, ILSAC and Dexos), don't lie. PF oil testing is not that, it's pseudo-science "testing" masquerading as true science (certs, approvals) oil testing. Super Tech is fine oil with current API, ILSAC and Dexos certs and approvals.

      @@GT-mn3bx Kindly take note, I wrote "PF oil testing..." specifically. NOT, sent out Blackstone Labs VOA/UOA analysis results. Two completely different and separate things. PF oil testing procedures are pseudo-science. That, as opposed to true API, ILSAC and Dexos analysis Certs and Approvals. Fact. Outside Blackstone VOA/UOA Labs analysis fits with the latter, not the former.
