    Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
    With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

    Anyone who has worked on a farm will recognize this type of situation. On occasion, things go wrong in unexpected ways. That's when farmers shine. They know what to do. And when that doesn't work, they can get creative--sometimes very creative. Yankee know-how at its best! Thanks for letting all of us look in on this unexpected problem--and seeing your approach to fixing it.

    I was crackling at the #doublerubber, and then the fun started when your dad stepped in. You know it is serious when dad takes over. But when you got to the tie-downs on the floor bit, and he was just like "there is no oil in it", I was crawling on the floor... Thank you, and your family, for making my day! What a privilege to work together with your father on a family farm!!!

    As far as I can tell there's been three people at work on this oil filter: the guy who stripped the threads, the guy who put a new one on despite the stripped threads, and the guy who went at it with a cut-off wheel and a chisel, and the third guy did the least damage.

    • @TrevorDennis100
      @TrevorDennis100 Před 3 lety

      All the way through that process I was looking at the housing and wondering how it could be removed from the engine? We only had the one angle, but it looks less than straight forward from what we could see. You can undo the feed to the turbo and maybe disconnect the housing from the top, but we could see no way to remove the housing from the pipe that goes down to the sump and (I presume) the oil pump. Perhaps it is a push in fit with an O-ring. Just noticed this is an old video so I'm going to look for part 2

      Steve Neal Actually if you clean the surface where the rubber seal on the new filter shall contact to well, so that there is no oil on it..
      and then tighten the new filter to hard,, you might experience this situation.. since the friction of the dry rubber is quite high against clean steel..
      so i usually vet my finger with oil and rub on the rubber gasket on the new filter.
      fasten the new filter by hand and add just a little extra with a tool..
      that way it always come off easy becouse the thin oil film on the gasket dont dissapear in years.

    I had the exact same problem on one of my john Deere’s here in Aus. If the filter has been on there sometime and sees a fair bit of moisture it previously the machine lived outside, the water makes its way into the top of those threads and the filter literally sticks itself there. Mine was just as much fun as yours to get off. Some anti-seize on the threads and a run of electrical tape around the top will keep the moisture out. Have not had a drama since. Love the videos mate, keep up the good work!

If you noticed he couldn't get the pipe wrench on the fitting where it would be most beneficial also. Who ever put the filter on must have had about as much trouble getting it on with it cross threaded that way.

    Oil filters are such a love/hate relationship! Nowadays I seriously hand tighten, and grease the gasket on everything. Work smarter not harder, that's what old man always says to me.

    and now we know why it says on the side of every filter, tighten 1/2 turn after gasket contacts base. even has pictures for those who can't read.

    I've seen this movie before, someone gets handed the wrong spec filter with the close, but not quite thread size and unwittingly spins it on anyway.
    The method I use to get them back off,is a cut all the way through the filter about an inch down from the crimp with a sawzall.Followed by an old 3/4 drive socket with some pins welded on to fit the return holes in the threaded plate kinda like a spanner wrench. This allows the use of a ratchet or if really bad an impact wrench to get the hull off the filter head.

    had that problem a lot on deere machines, when you put the new filter on make sure to use some grease on the threads and filter gasket, it wont hurt the engine and makes taking the filter off next time a lot easier
