Welcome! I have been in debt and not in control of my money. My early 20's were an exploration outside of the frugal lifestyle I was raised in. After getting into debt and having payments that amounted to more than my income I hit the "never again" moment. I was able to resolve the debt by gaining control of my money. Now in my 40's I share my experiences, ideas and creative solutions to help widen the gap between your income and your expenses.

I love the no spend day idea. So much easier than a no spend month.
Just starting out? Buy a used or new car that has a reputation for last 10+ yrs. Pay it off in 5 yrs. At yr 5-7 pay to have your car painted a different color. Your car will seem new to you and others. Continue to pay into a high yield savings account the monthly car payment. At yr 10 or longer of ownership buy a new or used car in cash. Keep the car for 10yrs., pay a monthly payment to your high yield savings account as though you have a 10yr payment. If the car cost $32,000/120 months=$267 each month. The rise in price over 10yrs should be covered by the interest you receive in your high yield savings account. The new paint job in yr 5 or 7 will keep the car fresh to you.

Great tips Jennifer thank you for sharing them .
Great no spend days and how interest is calculated. Great tips❤
Jennifer I’ve had someone say to me about what you said about daily interest. I just don’t understand it. I have a loan at 3..7% which I overpay every month. How does it accrue interest everyday?
♡ 🤍 <3 Jesus loves you and invites you to speak with Him in yer Heart at anytime as you would to a good Friend, He never denies anyone who trusts Him.
While I do not need anymore clothes, I absolutely love your shirt!
Oh my yes! Thrifting can, and has been for me at least, a real money vacuum. I am still trying to wade through the clutter, especially of CLOTHES, I've accumulated over the years through thrifting. I live in Chicago, so I'm blessed with a lot of different thrift stores and those stores are blessed with donations from store close-outs and end of season overages. That means a lot of thrift stores in Chicago have items that still have the original tags on them. Not to mention the uber-rich folk who clean out their closets every year and donate their Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Armani, etc. In January of last year, I realized I was wasting money (and time) engaging in what, for me, was essentially a from of retail therapy. That's when I decided to do two things: 1) Go to an actual therapist (my husband's health insurance pays for it) to get to the bottom of my various issues 2) To approach thrifting the same way I approach grocery shopping. I take an inventory of what I already have, gather items I no longer need or use (to bring to the donations bin), and make a list of what (if anything) I need. This goes for everything I can find at a thrift store, not just clothes. Kitchen items (pots, pans, dishes, etc.), office or school supplies, even furniture; whatever it is I actually need at the time. Only then do I go thrifting. I stick to the list with the caveat to allow myself no more than 1 spectacular item if I run across it in addition to my list. That means I may go to Goodwill for two "new" (i.e. lightly used) summer dresses on the list and if I happen to run across a Coach purse in like-new condition for less than say $5 or a pair of Gloria Vanderbilt jeans with the tags still on them for $2.50 then I'll allow myself to buy it. But only ONE extra item and that has to be a real bargain and something I know I'll use immediately. That, or course, means no purchases with the thought in mind that the item is too good to pass up and all I need to do is to lose enough weight to fit into it.. LOL Therapy is going well and I'm slowly winnowing my way through the clutter, so I know I'm on the right track. Thanks again for your wonderful videos. PEACE
Yes, a video with 'spend money to save money' ideas would be helpful. :) -Harriet G.
Hmmmm😂😂😂😂season 10 of friends for the 995h time
About receipts...qlot of places if you have the loyalty card or app and scan at the reg8ster they save that receipt.
Mine is eating out. Work downtown. Brugers dunkin gyro truck whiner world. Summer food trucks. Ugh. Pack lunch so no excuses 😂no spend! That and goodwill hunt for clothes. Have to limit myself to sales days. Bie 4th of July was 40 percent off clothes...big pimp and bought tons of name brand clothing for me and my son...BUT that's not the reason I limit tri0s. I came out with...... CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS 😅😅😅
Smart purchases that will save you money is a great idea. Yes, I would like to see that video. For me, it's all about thrift stores. Any time I need office or school supplies, for instance, I always head to my local Salvation Store first. I've found spiral ringed notebooks, reams of copier paper, even a huge three hole punch that's perfect for preparing manuscripts for a three ring notebook. Of course, I also purchase most of my clothes at thrift stores too. You'd be amazed at how many times the item still have their original tags on them! Picture frames, cooking utensils including pots and pans, even unique décor and art work are all available on a catch as catch can basis at thrift stores. PEACE
Wow Jennifer you really hit some spots for me. I like what you said about escapism and habits. Best savings video I've seen in a long time. I've been a restaurant server for the past 5 years and I can't budget because my income fluctuates too much. I'm stepping down from serving to stabilize my income, and other reasons as well. I also love what you said about household chaos. Thank you thank you thank you. Lovely video.
As a single person, purchasing an air fryer has been a money saver for me. While out running errands, instead of grabbing a fast food lunch, I tell myself that I can go home and throw “xxxxxx” in the air fryer, make a salad and have a healthy lunch ready in 15 minutes. I use my library’s ebook app on my iPad for reading free books. The reading options are endless.
Isn’t the library app the best? I love it too!

I switched to BLU smartphones a decade ago. They're dual sim unlocked devices so I can use one sim card at home and another when I travel abroad without roaming charges. Lots of features and apps, and they cost under $250 for the latest model. I replace my phone with a newer model every 3 years and have a $7 month sinking fund so I pay cash. Combine that with Mint Mobile at $15 month and it saves a lot of money.
Fantastic advice
I am a diabetic and I save empty laundry detergent containers for sharp containers.
The other day I drove into a Starbucks drive thru on an impulse and regretted it before I arrived at the window to pay. I lied and said I forgot my wallet at home and took the free water and drove off 😅 I felt embarrassed at first because they already made my drink but then remembered that Starbucks in a multibillion dollar corporation and I need to keep my money more than they do.
Makes sense but please don’t do it again. I think it’s causing others trouble
And of course waste
I don't know in the US but in my country phone companies don't sell previous year phone models, they just sell same year in the different tiers: low-mid-top. And if you buy in small stores or off market you risk being scammed. 😕
Is it worth it growing your own vegetables?
I recently had to purchase a used car, and with my emergency fund, I was able to put down a 3k deposit on it. Now, I'll double up on car payments (to save on interest). I can pay off January 2nd with my RMD
Where did you get the window blinds from? I have to put some on my windows and I like those a lot.
Quality items I always buy are shoes, clothes, and purses.
I don't buy snacks or processed foods. The only snack we have is popcorn. We pop ourselves
I have a budget for movies, wine tasting, or one lunch/dinner per month
I only shop on Trader Joe's and fill in with H.E.B. I'm in Texas
I just got a pair of crop pants for $ 17.99, which will be great for walking and upcoming vacations
Yes, my calendar is very useful for meals, appointments, etc.
I'm enjoying audio books on my free library app called Libby library app All I needed was my membership card no.📚 Thank God for how far the world has come. I also love learning on youtube Praise God Hallelujah. I'm listening to Pulitzer prize winners. ❤. 😊. I recognise life is short So I thought I'd carefully select what I'd like to read.. I've decided to read a book every week. It's a great free pass time I encourage this. 😊
I didn't know about the interest on c.c.
You are so funny. Glad I found you.
Hi Jennifer. I'm interested in learning how to spend money to save money 🤑💰
I need a clean kitchen too
I like to listen to music or listen to podcasts while I am walking
Jennifer, this might be your best video yet! Loved it. Thank you.
Loved this video. Could you explain tip #1 again, in a different way? I'm understanding that 2 payments on credit card, per month, will what? Is this the same as making an extra payment on your mortgage each year? Sorry. I'm confused. Thanks so much.
My “excuse” is because I’m stuck at a dead end job and need a better paying job. I’ve worked for this same call center for going on 6 years since late 2018 and I only make $11.50 per hour and get paid every 2 weeks and now they’ve cut my hours down to 21 hours per week. Who can live on that income?
Everything is great quality. I've maybe bought two items over several years that disappointed. Love checking out their center aisle.
Jennifer, my home has been paid off for years, my car is paid off and I drive my cars for years. However, I do have a craft habit, and a book habit. I’ve started putting things I think I want in a cart and leaving it. By the time I go back, I either delete it all or buy much less. I have so many books in my bookshelves. Recently, I donated most of the ones, that I’ve read, to my local library, for their book sale. I also discovered an app called Hoopla, which offers tons of ebooks, audiobooks and movies for free, all you need is a library card. I love the audiobooks, I listen them when I do things around the house and in the car. I have debt, but I’m working on it, thank you for your suggestions 😄
I agree with so many of these points! We have managed to live a decent life and no debt on a modest income thanks to being frugal where possible and buying quality when necessary. Paying attention and doing research, being mindful and patient.
Awesome!
would love a weekly. Love watching your videos
BTW Jennifer in no way do you look 40
Kate, thank you so much! That makes my 40 year old self smile 😃
Spray painting thrift store or yard sale finds, sans fabric please, gives them a whole new life. You can even resell your fines
Please everyone forgive the weird words popping into the messages that I write. I have a vision issue so I am dictating and sometimes the auto recorder just messes it up. I don’t buy processed food. Of course I buy food. Do shop the perimeter of the store with the exception of going to mineral water when it’s on sale.
So there you are, talking about stress shopping and what should happen but a campaign ad for one of the Presidential candidates. Whoosh! There went my stress level! LOL Thankfully, I was able to click on SKIP and got right back to you and your level headed advice. Lovin' it! PEACE
Oh no! Yay for the skip button ❤️
I have did a declutter that has given me a reset. I have seen the amount of items that I purchased that was a waste. It is better to have 3 shirts that fit well and look good than 10 that are ill fitting that you don’t like wearing. Do you need more than 3 shirts ,probably but you can make it on 3 shirts until you find more that are the right ones. It is nice to wear a ‘favorite’ every day.
