I change the dish towels, tablecloths, mugs, bedspreads, and pillow shams seasonally. Much cheaper than getting new furniture, etc. No one needs new throw pillows, just get cheap covers and change them.
Thanks for pointing out the kitchen items to get. I got a slipcover set for my living room set. And coordinating pillowcases for the couch pillows. No, I wouldn’t have gotten new furniture instead, but that affordable change really perked up the room
That's what I do. I've been doing it for a few years now and really love the idea. I also change out my knick knacks every season. I used to buy tons of throw pillows but now I just buy covers and change them out
Hi Jennifer 👋🏻
I mindlessly wasted money in my 20s. I spent my 30s paying off debt.. Now, in my 40s, I am very mindful of my purchases.
Same here, I travel a lot&, shop constantly 😫now i do several months - NO SPENDING MONTH Cheers to us🎉🎉
I had an ‘emergency fund’ built up. Thank goodness!!!
My mom got very sick. She was transferred to a hospital 120 miles away. She was in the hospital for over a month. The fund was used for meals, motel, gas, and anything else on those trips. I was so glad I had that!!
I am so glad you had that cushion. I hope she is doing better. Hugs 🤗
I gave my instant pot away. Too big, heavy and bulky for me (I live alone). I love my crock pot, and being retired, have the time to wait for food to cook all day for dinner.
Great tips! I enjoy your videos😊
Oh man, just reorganized my pantry yesterday, ridiculous amount of certain items, and I thought I was organized. A hack I saw was to just use boxes/containers you already have to categorize, no need to buy containers-cheap or otherwise. This made a huge difference. I have now planned our meals around the items.
I love the idea of finding a hobby; we don’t have tv, it has been like 7 years or so, since then, we live life, instead of watching others.. I love gardening, reorganizing different areas of my house, painting, reading awesome books etc. Thank you for your great ideas!💡
I like the timeless clothes tip. And the use what you have in your house instead of buying more decor! Shop your house first ! Love your channel !
Volunteering fills my time.
I just subscribed to your channel. I can up my knowledge with all these tips. Pantry organizing and expired items is one of them. Rearranging the furniture. My grandma did it. Now I get it.
Thank you for the excellent tips, and for saving me TIME by getting straight to the point. Many CZcamsrs rattle off endlessly on unrelated topics and it’s so annoying.
I write on my phone memo pad my grocery list. As I run out of items, I write them there. I do an inventory of my refrigerator and pantry.
I started doing this during the pandemic…when I make out my grocery list, I make it out so I start at the back of the store and work my way to the front. I have the item, location and price on my list (using the website for the aisle location). I can get in the store, head to the back and wind my way to the front and the cashier’s. I don’t browse or wander up and down each aisle. I also do my shopping first thing every Saturday and I’m usually waiting in line when they open the store. Very little crowds, no distractions and I can get a week’s worth of shopping done in about 20 minutes. I am shelf cooking this month because my freezer and pantry are full. I’m also doing a no-spend January but will follow it with a low-spend year. PS…growing up in northern Minnesota, we heard, “Shut the door! Were you born in a barn?”…awe, memories!
I’m on a no spend January and low spend year. My sister gave me a £20 supermarket gift voucher for Christmas and that’s going to be for our food this month and not a penny more. I had to buy a few bits today though and I spent just over £9!!!
My financial goal for this year is to pay off my £1300 debt and save up £6000 emergency fund
I love going to thrift shops to find new things for the home and also for clothing and purses. I always keep electronics as long as they are working properly. I don't understand why people upgrade their phones every year and it's really just the same phone. And I have a bad habit of getting a chicken biscuit every morning and I did the math and was shocked how just that small habit adds up.
Sheena, thank you for sharing this! I hope you have a wonderful week 🤗
Can you make them yourself and freeze them? I was surprised how easy it was to dupe McDonald's breakfasts at half the price just with things at Walmart (precooked sausage patties, frozen hash brown patties, refrigerator biscuits in a can).
Love these tips! Thank you! For now I’m holding off on an instant pot. I’m using my crockpot until it dies and then I will upgrade❤
I admire your resolve to use up your item before replacing it! I will just say, though… The lid on the instant pot is interchangeable, and if you purchase the extra glass lid with the vent, the instant pot operates as a crockpot. Once I got the second lid, I decluttered my crockpot, and now it feels like I have both!
Hi. I just saw your video with the apple tree. I believe that you need to plant a second apple tree near that one in order for pollination and to get fruit! So use the other seeds from your daughters root fairy apple gift!
I'm learning Mahjong at my Temple - free lessons and a great way to meet people.
We find that it doesn't work as well for us to set an established menu plan for each week. Instead, we have a list of about six weeks of meals we most enjoy. Then we choose from the list depending upon how much time we have available for cooking. I have many very thrifty recipes and we can plan to make good use of our grocery budget.
I have a six week meal plan and buy what is on sale that week that fits in either the meal plan.
This video was so good I had to watch it twice To understand everything I needed to. I know I keep hearing from all of these Money videos on CZcams is to increase my knowledge. so I will take an online class in accounting or something like that. I use a credit card for everything because I have nerve damage in my hand handpaper money is difficult for me to use. The advantage of the credit card is to show me where I was spending most Which was unfortunately coffee and eating out. No need to do that. My new inexpensive hobby is the book club I joined.
I agree shopping online and then doing pickup is a great way to prevent buying things not on your list. However, i just learned that when you do that, it can be much more expensive than shopping in person. I went to Aldi's last week. When I got home, i pulled out the receipt and got on the Aldi's website and pretended to shop for the exact same items I purchased at that store. EVERY item was $0.10 to more than $0.50 more expensive online. I had no idea stores did that until I had a friend challenge me to check it out.
I make it part of my routine to check my bank account.
I just started my CZcams channel and I want to make videos on actually showing implementing the tips from different frugal channels. Love all you’re content 😊
Thank you for really good tips! I love rearranging furniture. I stay at home a lot! I am currently using my smaller fridge it helps to lessen the groceries I buy. I keep aside reserves every month and buy less times. Only buy what i need online. It does reduce unnecessary buys. I am downsizing to reduce overall monthly expenses. Yes i am getting through old stock. I have decided that i do not really stock so much. I stocked up 2 years ago and it did a lot of savings on spaghetti sauces and pasta. Oh yes i am paranoid about turning off lights. Also grandma was so good recooking leftovers. Petrol is pretty standard and subsidised. I have a monthly spreadsheets to track expenses. Fixed allowance has been set up. I delegated bills to be paid by my son. This year is my no spending year as a newbie frugal wannabe! Only buy on need to basis. Always watching out for bargain grocery deals. Always checking out on consumer index. Best hobby started an edible garden. Already identified the best priced stores. Oh yes, this year is the year to have an emergency fund. No debt from now on. Greatly appreciate this insights and foresight!
Rozita, thank you for sharing this! You have a great plan in place. This is your year! You've got this ❤️
Fast Fashion.. I agree 100% older and wiser now days. First off I rarely buy new clothes. I do buy shoes because it's important for your feet to not wear wore down shoes. Clothes I try very hard and it's so tempting to buy solid color tops versus pretty patterns or cute tshirts with sayings on them. Solids match up much better than prints do. And get one or two classic outfits for things like funerals or going out to eat, for me that is a pair of gray, black and navy solid colored pants these work for most occasions include a white shirt and black and a navy lightweight sweater for winter events. I tend to go with navy on these items and I have navy flat shoes to match. Anna In Ohio
I had a friend who passed a few years ago. She was 90! She once told me never get rid of the clothes you love…. They always come back around. I visited her in 2017 the year she passed and she was a wearing a maternity skirt from the 40s. It was made to expand or cinch based on waist size. So you could wear it pregnant or not. She looked like a million bucks!
I have higher quality clothes from when I was working. I have pants, cashmere sweaters, etc, more than 5 years old. I dry clean them at home in dryer.
This is about the third video I have watched, of yours. I love it, I just subscribed. I love your approach, no yelling or in your face & no shaming. So peaceful & reassuring. I also love scrolling through the comments. Loads of more ideas there. Enjoying your channel, thank you.
Linda, I am so glad you shared this with me. It warms my heart that my videos come across that way. That is always my hope. Welcome! Hugs to you 🤗
I am doing SMART financial goals. I also only put fixed expenses on auto Pay, I don't want any surprises. I definitely reuse or repurpose items. We have a large pantry and freezers, I only buy fresh foods and restock, mostly loss leaders. I love my Kroger delivery, we live in a rural area and they deliver, saving me time and gas, not to mention no impulse buying. Working on increasing my Emergency Funds, doing sinking funds as well to make sure all my bills are covered. Great video today.
I love my Instant Pot. Great for rice and yogurt too.
Remember that Rakuten has coupons too!
I shop our pantry, fridge, & freezer to eat up what we have before grocery shopping
I unplug coffee and hot water kettle after use.
Fast fashion companies are well known for horrific human rights. I can go on for hours. They are made to fall apart easily. Customers don't feel bad about spending more money to replace it because it didn't cost much to get in the first place.
My retirement plans were wiped out ages ago. Divorce, cancer, disability, not working.
My food budget is SNAP and local food pantry.
I was able to get my calcium supplements for 50% off. Saved $10.
I just recently discovered your content and instantly followed! I really appreciate your advice and your voice/tone is very comforting/soothing! These tips will help me achieve my 2024 goals! Thank you 🙌🏼
As always, you gave great tips. Hope your new year is off to a good start. Take care and have a great week.
Your content is always so well-researched, thank you for the knowledge you impart.
I have my pantry inventory on my cellphone with expiration dates. New items are put behind current items.
Thanks Jennifer.
Hey Jennifer all great tips , I watch the ads every week and plan my meals accordingly, happy new year 🎊
Yes my instant pot is one of my favorite appliances in the kitchen too! In fact, I just made a delicious soup and eating it while I watch. LOL I made it with ingredients that were greatly reduced at Publix. Not sure if you shop there but I LOVE their BOGOS. LOVE your content. Btw, if you feel so inclined, I would love to see you do a video including info on how to maximize BOGOS and discount days (i.e. senior, etc.)
Lisa, we made soup in the Instant Pot tonight, too!!! That sounds like a great video idea ❤️
Awesome!! Soup is comforting for these colder temps we're experiencing...and thanks for your kind words and reply! I'll keep an eye out for your next awesome video(s). Blessings! @@THEJENNIFERCOOK
I just started watching your videos - I like 'em, practical simple well presented
Carts. Lol. I love those little carts. Sometimes I go outside and get one if I can’t find one in the stall. 😅😅
Right now I’m tracking groceries and household consumables by category to see if my idea of how long everything lasts is correct or if I am overbuying or if I am over consuming some more expensive items (Aka, to see what I might need to cut down on). Also letting more things get down to the wire before I rush to buy more just to see how long I can make them last. I think I’m going to also add the sale patterns to my inventory tracking. Great idea.
I really like your process for analyzing your usage of consumables. Thank you for sharing this! 🤗
@@THEJENNIFERCOOK Lol. Thanks! Yah. I do a lot of reverse meal planning so now I’m writing down if it was clearance or digital coupon or bogo or regular sales. Which is prob 80-90 % of what I buy (with groceries anyways lol).
Happy New Year 🎉🎉👏🎉 wishing you great health and prosperity 💕🤗 wealth for 20/24 Love you.watching . watching from Jamaica the west indies 😊
I use Upside for gas. It’s great.
Excellent tips yet again!! And congrats on the instant pot! I love mine, it’s one thing I will never be without! I unplug any thing I am not using…all small appliance (toaster, can opener, tv etc). Believe it or not it has taken my electric bill down a bit and anything is better than nothing.
All Time Hobbies
Art and Gardening, mostly plants that You can eat
We do a lot of your tips, but I just started the compare prices of name brand verses store brands, thanks
I try never to grocery shop on an empty tummy! It leads to buying anything & everything in sight!
Yes! Great tip. It definitely can cause over spending to go hungry. 🤗
I like ibotta you get coupons as well as cash back
I'm making lists of things I can make with the craft supplies I already have.
I have heard of it!!
Love this video
Upside gas app also let's you know where cheapest gas and you earn cash. I love the app, going to purchase gas anyway, might as well get the free money.
Question? Are you suppose to tip the person that brings your groceries to your car?
Thank you for adding another app for gas! As far as grocery pickup tipping, I don't believe most grocers even allow tipping.
nice
I've discovered that my H.E.B. has the lowest gas price. Also, Costco, but they are nearby.
I eat eggos every morning with honey drizzled and topped off with some bananas....which is soooooo Good....😊😊😊
i love Ibotta and Rakuten.
Need budget information. Please let me know what type of dewy makeup you use?
I hold my phone until it dies.
Uggg my son watching CZcams with the shower running grrrrr
💖💖💖
For groceries shop online, it saves time and money. You won't spend money in items you don't need.
I love learning from you and other CZcamsrs!
Go to a thrift shop if you want to get " new items " for your house.
Go to thrift shops in areas that are above your social status. Usually higher quality products and in better condition. Still great prices. IMHO
So Jennifer how is your plans going for paying off the mortgage on your house, I think you said you were going to achieve by 2024?
Yes! You remembered correctly. We are on track to finish it off by the end of 2024. Hopefully before 🤗
Eat before you shop for groceries then you will not buy things just because you are hungry.
Dont spend 50.bucks a week on hair and nails.
Do them yourself. I recently started doing my own acrylics (it's the only manicure strong enough to stand up to the abuse I put my hands through every day). It's not as hard as I thought - I got everything I needed to do them for about the cost of one new set at the salon and I'm set for at least a year's worth of manicures now. Hair cutting videos galore on CZcams - I do mine and my husband's trims. We have very simple styles, but there are tutorials out there for more complex ones too.
I'm just popping by to see how close you are to your goal of paying off your mortgage this year :)
Hey there! We are getting close. It should be no later than the end of the year. Sooo exciting! Thanks for checking in 🤗
RAKUTEN
Jennifer, your channel keeps getting better. Love all your tips.
I add a sticker to the bottom of a spice, flour, sugar, etc, container to indicate there is more of the same item in the pantry. This has helped reduce overpurchasing of extra items that are already in my cramped tiny pantry.
Laura, that's a good idea!
This is a very helpful tip, thanks for sharing with us ❤
Very helpful tip ! Thanks Laura and Jennifer ! ❤😊🎉🍀🐞
