As a single person, purchasing an air fryer has been a money saver for me. While out running errands, instead of grabbing a fast food lunch, I tell myself that I can go home and throw “xxxxxx” in the air fryer, make a salad and have a healthy lunch ready in 15 minutes.
I use my library’s ebook app on my iPad for reading free books. The reading options are endless.
Isn’t the library app the best? I love it too!
Can you do fried chicken in it KFC style? And can I make beef burger patties/burger with the airfryer?
Awesome tips. About 2 months ago I called our internet provider because a new provider began providing service in our town and I just shared about the flyer from the other provider and asked what could they do to match their new prices. The customer service rep actually said thank you for allowing us to keep your service. She worked with me to keep only the service I currently have, reduced it to the price of the new provider for one year and offered me 10 dollars off for auto pay...our new monthly bill for one year is $76.20 from $129. She told me to call a month or so before the one year period is up and they will negotiate again just to keep our service. Thank you so much for these awesome reminders and tips!
Wow! That is fantastic! Thank you for sharing this real-life example ❤️
Well done, doing this works, I tell others and some of them actually bother to find out their service provider will give them a better deal. It never hurts to ask, does it? But some prefer not to find out - I find this really odd.
I just found you you popped up in my feed. I used to conduct homebuyer classes for women. I was a mortgage broker and I used to talk to them about budgeting and I gave them a budget form and I told them not to go absolutely crazy, but they could cut back their visits to Starbucks to maybe twice a week. And just look at the way they could cut out money right now to to either apply to debt or apply it to Down payment. And a lot of what you said I have said to my women. I even had them sell their expensive cars and get a cheaper car which would reduce their work their car payment by hundreds of dollars. So I do agree with everything you said I don’t buy food. I don’t follow trends. I make my own clothes, but I do have a fabric habit…
Susana, welcome!
Susan, we are very frugal, also, other than my fabric stash. I love making quilts! LOL. It's my charity give. I give my quilts to be auctioned off for fundraising.
I have did a declutter that has given me a reset. I have seen the amount of items that I purchased that was a waste. It is better to have 3 shirts that fit well and look good than 10 that are ill fitting that you don’t like wearing. Do you need more than 3 shirts ,probably but you can make it on 3 shirts until you find more that are the right ones. It is nice to wear a ‘favorite’ every day.
The other day I drove into a Starbucks drive thru on an impulse and regretted it before I arrived at the window to pay.
I lied and said I forgot my wallet at home and took the free water and drove off 😅 I felt embarrassed at first because they already made my drink but then remembered that Starbucks in a multibillion dollar corporation and I need to keep my money more than they do.
Makes sense but please don’t do it again. I think it’s causing others trouble
And of course waste
Dollar tree is always showing a lot of storage items that tells me if you have too much stuff you are accumulating too much
I recently had to purchase a used car, and with my emergency fund, I was able to put down a 3k deposit on it. Now, I'll double up on car payments (to save on interest). I can pay off January 2nd with my RMD
I love the no spend day idea. So much easier than a no spend month.
I saved recently with no spend week once a month (I live an hour from larger town, so easier for me).
Hi Jennifer thank you for a very interesting and helpful video! I live in UK and my bank keeps trying to get me to have my statements via email (GRRRRR). I WONT do this as it's far too easy to miss an email or put off looking at the email!! So my little tip is to have paper statements, it's easier to look at them, review your spending and then file them, so you can easily check what happened in a previous month! Hope this helps 🤗 Caroline
I try to make it a challenge to use up leftover bits and pieces. I had a small amount leftover oven fried potatoes that were unappetizing . I added the potatoes to the skillet with a small amount of sausage and an egg boom 2 breakfast burritos.
Great idea!
Do you have any cheap meal ideas for rice, quinoa and lentils? I have these in my pantry…
@@tingtiing I don’t,I need to work at incorporating those also .
@tingting there is a YT channel called Ardent Michelle. She has a lot of inexpensive recipes using just those items.
@@jbalconi9903 thanks a lot
I save money on not buying snacks, beverages and junk food
So true, those non essentials add up quickly, plus if it's there, it's a temptation to eat empty calories
I have become a vegetarian because I now refuse to spend 25.00 for a cut of meat that will last 2 days. I was at the store and craving a steak, I went to the meats section and there was a lot of meat on the shelves. The prices are crazy! I think I'm not the only one turning into a vegetarian. I can buy a bag of potatoes, eggs and frozen vegetables for the price of one steak.
And I have a freezer full of meat and don't eat it. Married to a farmer
I am vegetarian as well. Beans, potatoes, lentils... Very affordable. 👍 There are many reasons for me besides finances though.
Enjoy the health problems and tiredness in a 3 to 5 years from nutrient deficiencies
@@mgem1611 Seems like a sad thing to say, coming for someone who doesnt much ;) Vegetarian for 10+ years now, healthy and happy. Let people (and animals haha) live.
Eggs are not vegetarian. They are however, delicious.
Love watching your videos! We already do most of the things you talk about, but it took years to be that disciplined. Spending money guilt-free was the best feeling after years of not having a fun category in my budget. You are the best!
Sarah, thank you so much! 🤗
Smart purchases that will save you money is a great idea. Yes, I would like to see that video. For me, it's all about thrift stores. Any time I need office or school supplies, for instance, I always head to my local Salvation Store first. I've found spiral ringed notebooks, reams of copier paper, even a huge three hole punch that's perfect for preparing manuscripts for a three ring notebook. Of course, I also purchase most of my clothes at thrift stores too. You'd be amazed at how many times the item still have their original tags on them! Picture frames, cooking utensils including pots and pans, even unique décor and art work are all available on a catch as catch can basis at thrift stores. PEACE
Great tips. One that has worked for me saving me lots of money is when buying any item from a small appliance to clothes or electronics, I monitor that item for 30 to 90 days depending on the retailer's return policy and if there is any change in price I go get a price adjustment from the retailer. By doing this I have effectively reduced the price of many necessary items by more than half the original price.
Good grief, phones are the same price as a house payment! Cars/ trucks are as expensive as houses were a few years ago. Rent on some tiny places are 2x's a mortgage payment.
Just yesterday I watched a CZcamsr show a colander/food strainer kitchen set from Amazon for $23.99. It was so cute that I wanted to order it in the beautiful blue color. But I already have three colanders and a strainer....so I stopped myself because it was a want, certainly not a need. If I do actually need a kitchen item, my local Home Goods Store has quality items for a great price. Yes please make a video on money spending ideas that save money. I love this video!
Hi Linda! Thank you for sharing this 🤗
Thank you for explaining how interest accrues DAILY!
Glad it was helpful!
Never thought about organized life correlation with organized finances, but oh so true! Thanks for thought provoking video
This is soooooo true - look at the people around you and once you know you cannot unsee it
@@yasmeen6790 lol or not!! So true
Glad it was helpful!
Okay, right off the bat, no - I didn't know that was how the banks calculate interest on charge cards. NOW I DO! Thank you!! Actually, I don't have any charge cards but I do have overdraft protection on my checking account. I just talked to my personal banker and, sure enough, they calculate the interest on that the same as they do for credit cards. HA! And there I was thinking I was so smart because I was paying off the overdraft protection (it's a form of personal loan) only once a month. Now I know it's best to pay a part of it off every week instead of waiting. Of course, the best bet is not to incur an overdraft in the first place and, yes, I am working on that but sometimes an expense comes up before I've had a chance to save up for it and, well . . .; you know what happens then. In the meantime, I'm always looking for ways to cut down on waste and save money as well as time. That's why I'm a happy subscriber to your channel. Please keep up the good work. Your tips are always useful. PEACE
Lori, thank you so much! 🤗
I don’t plan meals based on store sales, I plan meals based on what’s in my pantry, fridge and freezer and then we fill in holes as needed with ingredients (whole foods) which are inexpensive and healthy. We cook pretty much everything from scratch and we are 90% vegetarian.
I agree with so many of these points! We have managed to live a decent life and no debt on a modest income thanks to being frugal where possible and buying quality when necessary. Paying attention and doing research, being mindful and patient.
Awesome!
I made my own refried beans! They aren’t even fried they are made in a crockpot! They are so easy and I portioned them and put them in the freezer!
Potato Chips= Cucumber Slices. Applesauce= Learn to make your own, it's not that hard. I "Can" mine simple ingredients. I was really surprised at all the ingredients in some of the Apple Sauces on the market today invest in a Food Mill or use a food processor. You can jazz it up by adding Cinnamon to it. Anna In Ohio
Anna, thank you so much!
Yes please to the money spending ideas that save money.
Hi Jennifer , thank you for the info. & tips. I am trying to break the Amazon habit! I'm doing great because I'm a very responsible person & I don't really like using computers....Oh boy I got hooked. I would also be interested in a video about things to use up time that is not costly.
I appreciate the way you explain things & it all makes sense & you don't make watchers feel foolish or guilty. I will be checking your other videos. So glad I found your video today. Have a great weekend. Keep up the Great Work.
Ann, welcome! Thank you so much 🤗
Wow! I already do most of these but, wow this is a great video. So many people don’t even understand how credit cards work.
I freeze leftovers and my husband eats them for lunch at a later date.
Yes, my calendar is very useful for meals, appointments, etc.
Yes, a video with 'spend money to save money' ideas would be helpful. :) -Harriet G.
I just love listening to you! You’re so real and positive but straight to the point! Thank you for that!
I just got a pair of crop pants for $ 17.99, which will be great for walking and upcoming vacations
Just starting out? Buy a used or new car that has a reputation for last 10+ yrs. Pay it off in 5 yrs. At yr 5-7 pay to have your car painted a different color. Your car will seem new to you and others. Continue to pay into a high yield savings account the monthly car payment. At yr 10 or longer of ownership buy a new or used car in cash. Keep the car for 10yrs., pay a monthly payment to your high yield savings account as though you have a 10yr payment. If the car cost $32,000/120 months=$267 each month. The rise in price over 10yrs should be covered by the interest you receive in your high yield savings account.
The new paint job in yr 5 or 7 will keep the car fresh to you.
Time management is $$'s here. Waiting for an important phone call, I organized a "junk" drawer with small long baskets. I was looking for a pen.. Found: post it notes & tabs, pack of pens & safety pins I needed for today. Used & put away where they belong (taken off need list too).
Jennifer, this might be your best video yet! Loved it. Thank you.
A lot of great advice, and I didn’t know how they calculate credit card interest. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Love your videos! Great tips and most of them i have already been putting into place. Will always keep watching.
Thank you so very much for explaining the interest rate accrual. I've been watching you for a while and this was the most valuable to me. Not saying that your other ideas are not helpful, I have used many. 😊
I am so glad. You are very welcome!
Please everyone forgive the weird words popping into the messages that I write. I have a vision issue so I am dictating and sometimes the auto recorder just messes it up. I don’t buy processed food. Of course I buy food. Do shop the perimeter of the store with the exception of going to mineral water when it’s on sale.
My biggest Vice is yarn. But at the same time, I can make money from it (if I get an order) o or make Christmas presents from it.
That is very true! A hobby that makes money is a great idea ❤️
@@THEJENNIFERCOOK also good for therapy to.
My vice is fabric, but like you, I make quilts for gifts and to sell.
Wow Jennifer you really hit some spots for me. I like what you said about escapism and habits. Best savings video I've seen in a long time.
I also love what you said about household chaos. Thank you thank you thank you. Lovely video.
Another great video & a motivational reminder of what to do next week !!
Awesome! Thank you 🤗
These are great tips Jennifer, thanks for sharing, I'd love to hear more 👍😊
Thank you.
To add onto #13: read the manuals and manufacturers' websites for appliances you already own. I have a small toaster oven that surprise! works as an air fryer.
So there you are, talking about stress shopping and what should happen but a campaign ad for one of the Presidential candidates. Whoosh! There went my stress level! LOL Thankfully, I was able to click on SKIP and got right back to you and your level headed advice. Lovin' it! PEACE
Oh no! Yay for the skip button ❤️
@loriparker2440 - I saw that campaign ad twice. Couldn't wait to hit "skip".
I enjoy your channel. Has anyone ever told you that you look a lot like Gabrielle Carteris, "Andrea" from 90210?
Great tips!
Hi Libby, Thank you! No, I have never been told that. I do remember her and that show, though.
Great tips Jennifer thank you for sharing them .
Absolutely amazing
Hi Jennifer. I'm interested in learning how to spend money to save money 🤑💰
Quality items I always buy are shoes, clothes, and purses.
I think this is,your best video. Thanks.
This was great! Thank you.
Great no spend days and how interest is calculated. Great tips❤
Great tips Jennifer! 🤩😍
Thank you!
I have a budget for movies, wine tasting, or one lunch/dinner per month
Spray painting thrift store or yard sale finds, sans fabric please, gives them a whole new life. You can even resell your fines
Great video! I started doing savings challenges to make saving money fun. Yes please make a video on spending ideas that save money!
Great video 🎉
I don't buy snacks or processed foods. The only snack we have is popcorn. We pop ourselves
While I do not need anymore clothes, I absolutely love your shirt!
Mine is eating out. Work downtown. Brugers dunkin gyro truck whiner world. Summer food trucks. Ugh. Pack lunch so no excuses 😂no spend! That and goodwill hunt for clothes. Have to limit myself to sales days. Bie 4th of July was 40 percent off clothes...big pimp and bought tons of name brand clothing for me and my son...BUT that's not the reason I limit tri0s. I came out with...... CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS 😅😅😅
Where did you get the window blinds from? I have to put some on my windows and I like those a lot.
A word about “cluttered house, cluttered finances”. We have no debt except the car and the mortgage (which we’re overpaying), and we have a good level of savings. But our house looks like an explosion in a thrift shop. Why? Because I’m chronically disabled. My husband works full time, and also does all the cooking, cleaning, laundry and gardening. I’m lucky that I can work part time online, but about the only other stuff I can do is to hold my husband at the end of the day, stroke his hair and tell him how amazing he is. He can’t do more tidying or decluttering, and I can’t physically do it at all. Please don’t judge people, or make assumptions about their homes and finances, without knowing the whole story.
I agree! My finances are in the best shape they can be in when considering my pay. My house is a mess because post-depression cleaning is really hard and I can push my body only so hard before it quits. Many times, my body demands rest (I have a few chronic issues) if I’m going to be able to go to work every day. Mess never trumps hanging onto a job!
I freeze most of my left overs so I dont have to worry about it going bad
Karen, that is smart!
I do the same thing. As a widow, I usually cook in bulk and freeze the rest, especially soups and stews. Baked goods freeze well also.
@@sheilafreisthler4421 Very smart of you. If you’re going to make a mess, but as well make a big one.❤
Loved this video.
Could you explain tip #1 again, in a different way? I'm understanding that 2 payments on credit card, per month, will what? Is this the same as making an extra payment on your mortgage each year? Sorry. I'm confused. Thanks so much.
I pay my credit cards monthly. Only have house and car balance
Could you please tell us what kind of ruck pack you use? I love to walk, but I just don't feel it is doing enough to build muscle as I age. I would be very interested in your experience.
I don't know in the US but in my country phone companies don't sell previous year phone models, they just sell same year in the different tiers: low-mid-top. And if you buy in small stores or off market you risk being scammed. 😕
As usual, I enjoyed this video! Have a great week❤
Thank you! You too, Tressa!
Would love to hear a video from you about the frugal things you/your family will no longer be doing now that your house is paid off! And/or what things you'll be splurging on now. Hopefully you guys will be "treating" yourselves a little now and then! 😊❤🎉
Jennifer I’ve had someone say to me about what you said about daily interest. I just don’t understand it. I have a loan at 3..7% which I overpay every month. How does it accrue interest everyday?
By taking care of things they last longer even if they aren't high quality I have clothes from Walmart and thrift stores for years my washing machine that is still working and not a name brand. The store where I purchased this couldn't believe I still had it and working
I didn't know about the interest on c.c.
Any tips for quick food at home that save me money? I eat at restaurants way too often than I should. Things like sushi, Sashimi, fast food like fried chicken or other fried stuff and meat like chicken or beef burgers… It just doesn‘t taste the same as in restaurants or ubereats. And I think it is because I don’t prepare anything for when I am on my way and then I get hungry and impulse buy food. It‘s convenient because it‘s so fast and I don’t need to cook and it isn‘t time-consuming, also no cleaning afterwards (dishes).
I think about taking meal prep lunch box with me if I am downtown/on my way. How do you do it? And how many days can you prep in advance. Are the meal preps for one week on Sundays realistic? There are videos about preparing meals for one week. I am still new about all of this.
Any advise from y‘all is appreciated!!
I only shop on Trader Joe's and fill in with H.E.B. I'm in Texas
And HEB can have some really good deals on meat.
Your over spending habit, add it all up and look at how much you spend on it in a month. If needed set a monthly budget for it, but you probably don’t need it. Use what you have for crafts!

Hi Jennifer! I just love watching your videos’. I learn so much! Could you do a video on how long you should keep your paper statements? I’m referring to credit card statements, car insurance statements, utility statements, internet statements? I need help with this question! I have some bills that are automated! But, I have paper statements too! I would truly appreciate your help. Thank you!🙏🙏
Hi Pam, I can research that idea 🤗
@@THEJENNIFERCOOK Thank you so much!!!!🙏🙏🙏
