You could bring an extra battery just as easily as an extra can of gas. If you're fishing a quiet motor won't scare all the fish away so electric wins. But... neither seems that useful for any distance so I'd probably just use the oars.

The drain plugs have valves so if you open them and hit the gas the boat will drain and no water will come in.

I don’t have one yet but here thinking out loud. Maybe if the prop was adjustable and it was higher not so deep underwater it would push better rather than twisting the boat? Also, did you have the correct pressure, or could it be inflated a little more to make it more stiff

They say the 12hp is a tohatsu 9.8 clone, in that case is the 18hp more like a 15hp?

You don’t have to pull the safety lid out to kill the engine. You could just push down the red button on top of where the safety lanyard goes.

Don’t listen to this guy because you don’t fill the gear lube from the top and you have to do a break in period when the engines brand new and don’t rev it up all the way when you haven’t done the break yet.

Can I ask it the motors were short or long shaft. I have a Mercury 9.9 short shaft on mine and I can't get it to plane. As soon as it start to plane a few seconds after the props starts spinning fast and I loose power. I brought the prop to my Mercury dealer and they said the prop was ok and there was no slippage. As soon as I hit the throttle the noze of the both goes up completely like if the boat will tip backwards. I moved my gas tank in the front and put a little more weight in the front I can then manage sometime to get to plane but just for a few seconds because again my props start spinning just like if it is out of water. I was told that short shaft might not fit on the Tobin but they don't say anything on their packaging or in their booklet about long or short shaft. It's a Yamaha 15 clone it's a clone of the best motor probably ever made the quality control on Chinese motors is questionable and the returns kind of suck but if you buy it through Amazon and you get a good one you should be okay all the parts are replaceable with the Yamaha 15f two stroke so parts are easy to get and they last there's just things you have to do to it when you first get it grease everything down throttle cable all your linkage all that stuff needs to be covered in a good coat of oil or Grease or both add your gear oil and do your break in you should be set with a motor that's going to last you a very long time and like I said if you need to replace a carburetor or anything like that by Yamaha parts they are replaceable with the Yamaha parts

Do you have a recommendation on prop size for a yamaha 15 HP 4 stroke? I am at 7000 feet and cant seem to get it to go over 10 MPH with about 450 lbs of passenger weight...
