I am learning so much watching these vods thank you so much for making these
Happy to hear!! :)
Really enjoy these naval breakdown videos. The amount of things I didn’t understand is amazing. Thank you keep it up
It means a lot to hear! Thank you!❤️
Something important you should keep in mind though is that later production is more useful than earlier production as this can be put to use to make newer and better equipment. With the example of Britain here, you only unlock Spitfires by 1939 and you typically want to hold off building a lot of fighters until you do. So then I would say the strategy that lines up with max production per day on the day you unlock the spitfire. Also, I'm curious if you included the need to import resources. Britain can get a lot from its colonies, but Germany can't and they start with very little tungsten and chromium, something you won't conquer much of and will need for your Barbarossa tank. Your aluminium is also quite limited with only about a 100 units available to you. You will run out and need to start importing around your 30th mil on planes. That's not even to mention the oil and rubber you need to build synthetic refineries for. All in all, I think this is just a little bit too much of a simplification. It's nice though as a good demonstration of how civ greeding really hurts you.
Great video as always. How about one explaining the strengths and weaknesses of each ship type and how to best use them?
That is also a good idea :) thanks! And thanks for the comment!
add me to the tournament imma win for you against the lastorical people i know all their tricks
Hahaha! Thanks for the suggestion, but we have plenty of players already in our team :)
I love naval guides, it's making my games so much fun respect to when i was blindly stack the meta navy to win
Really happy to hear :)
Thanks for the video. I think a lot of people like these naval videos because the naval game is really kind of nebulous and people have to figure out stuff as they go along. So there are a lot more questions to the navy. I have some other questions to ask that are related to navy. What is the optimal strike fleet size? I was of the opinion beforehand that deathstacking was ideal, but I just learned that admirals start to get an xp penalty when they have more than 24 ships in a fleet. Which is bonkers considering that some fleets are pretty large. I read that this was for some reason true because the code base for admirals is the same as generals, and generals are capped at 24 divisions. I tried a couple playthroughs against the US (AI) with 24 ship fleets and it did not go so well. How do you like to compose your fleets? What role(s) do you find useful for heavy attack cruisers? I always thought that these are just cheap capitals and I would just put them off in their own fleet, but I am starting to think that they are better for CV screening. Battlecruisers and Battleships have more hp and armor, but are slow. Heavy attack cruisers screen just as well (minus all of the armor and hp of a BB or BC) since they count as a capital ship, but they can also match the speed of CVs. I am thinking that in CV fleets, use attack cruisers for your capital screens, and then with your other battleships/battlecruisers build fleets around them.
Very good, there's never enough naval stuff for HOI4, please continue, also explain extensively everything related to aviation and fighting in sea areas
Thanks a lot man :)
Question - okay concealment expert is great but it requires that you have blockade runner, which i would think is terrible for anyone but a submarine commander. You absolutely do not want to ever be retreating with a main battle fleet, you will get shredded and destroyed piecemeal. Better to stand and fight to the last no?
Or does “never repair” and “always engage” mean that you will never retreat regardless of the increased retreat decision?
Continue with naval stuff, please. It's the most interesting part of Hoi4. Port strike mechanics would be interesting, and what prevents the damage, ship AA, static AA, planes on interception.
That is a very good idea, thank you and thanks for the comment :)
Hygge guides are awesome and naval guides are the best! Although I always thought that Superior Tactian and Concealment Expert are obvious choices for minmax play. Superior Tactian is easier to grind than Blockade Runner, so CE is not so popular right now. "Torpedo Cool Down" is overlooked I agree. But the real elephant in the room is "Hunter-Killer", bcs what does he really do?
Really happy you liked it and learned at least something new :) yeah, if this one was appreciated, I thought I just continue on with other traits in another guide
@@hyggegaming Great! "Hunter killer" & "Lone wolf" would be much apriciated :) Fleet protector would be also interesting, bcs as I assume it allows to get 100% screaning with less DD/CL
Make a guide about how to organize the navy. Since I play more or less navy only I end up with 12+ admirals. My problem is that I want different task groups from one admiral operate in different sea zones with different task, but I never been able to do that they always operate in the same sea zones and mess everything up so I always have one admiral for one task
Yeah! That’s actually already on my short list to look at. In the meanwhile, check this one out HOI4 - How to Navy | With Badger & TheRealBoppus czcams.com/users/livexbN3KQvWafk?feature=share
Dude I *HATE* this. You should 100% be able to have different task forces operate in different zones under the same admiral.
I love navy... especially starting out as a smaller nation and building a world power naval fleet
Yeah! That’s a lot of fun :)
There's never enough about naval games, it's too often discarded but can be so much fun
Alright :)
keep doing naval guides, there is so much to learn
Haha! Alright 😅
UK never seems,to run out of fuel though. Lend lease seems to teleport it into their stockpile!
Oh ok. Not sure if the AI is actually cheating or not. Might be a paradox quick-fix to compensate for bad AI
Great job. I hear others say things like "CAS is shredding the enemy".., etc.., And in the Air window DETAILS sub-window over a battle there is a number for ground damage (or something like that). So I guess I am asking if there is yet another aspect of CAS you are not covering? In other words, actual losses to enemy without ground forces.., say Allied bombing units in France with no ground forces present. Thank you again for all of your hard work, its great.
Hey mate! Exactly, here’s another guide covering that aspect of it as well :) check through our library, I’ve made another two CAS videos :) there’s much to cover. HOI4 Guide - How Ground Attack REALLY works czcams.com/video/bZ7BBR4fV3s/video.html

a bit of unexplored potential in surface raiding.
I agree! Surface raiding is really powerful, but it requires a bit different approach :)
Oh you thought it was tied to wiping out the enemy like we all did instead of it literally being a stat? I know I was there as well.
Personally i dont play vanilla, but i really like your videos to get some spicy new tactics. Great work as always!
I mostly play multiplayer, but our aim is to make guides that works for both SP and MP. Thanks for the nice comment! :) //TheRealBoppus
Fantastic.

Wait... You can make groups with the hotkey. Like an RTS game?! 2800 hours. I don't know a damned thing clearly
I mean it is an rts so...
The shortkey helps so much, and it’s interesting how many dont know about it. I was at least a 1000 hours in before i learned about it :) //TheRealBoppus
I tried this out as the USA and it worked well! Like what you said, slow and steady works best. I assigned 2-3 dockyards to the capital ships, and built as many as I could. I ended up with way more capital ships than I usually do. It helps with economy, once I start refitting I can lower the amount of chromium to trade.
Yeah, the lower trade is a great perk for this. I hope you had fun with the Navy, the only thing that compares to a great surround is just crushing the enemies fleets :) //TheRealBoppus
Thank you guys, your channel should have 1 M subscribers! It is pure Gold! HOI4 at it's best! Some questions please: how does air supply with transport planes work? if I parachute supply, do I need a target supply hub to do it or does it also work in conquered areas but which are not in the range of a target supply hub but are in the range of transport planes? .. and specifically for paratroopers, if I have a division with armored recon, i.e. with light tanks, can they be supplied by transport planes or not? with or without target supply hub? .. so all I ask is about the SP role play 😀 and the railway tracks that have not yet become functional in the conquered areas
Transport planes work in conquered areas as long as their range covers it. Upgrading transport planes range early can give you a huge advantage against the clueless AI. Transport planes have been nerfed to oblivion so you need a few hundred for them to have any meaningful difference.
wow, radars detecting land units is just plain stupid.. Even for sea, it is mostly useless.. Say you build the radar array on 15m high tower - that gives you a maximum LoS of 14 kms due to the curvature of Earth.. And that"s not the only problem - radar works because you can measure differential between varying amounts of returning rays and the time it took since your pulse.. If you aim the radar towards ground, you will get incredible amount of clutter (instead of dots representing planes/ships/etc, you'll get one big blob - the ground). This can be mitigated somewhat (filtered through) with modern computers but none of it would be possible in 1940s. Really disappointed in PDX because of this :/
Haha! I actually think they fixed this now. So not sure you can do that feat anymore (I haven’t checked, but just heard it the other day). But yeah, I did military service with radars, so I know quite a bit about it ;) /Badger
@@hyggegaming Well that sounds great :) I know that lots of mechanics need to be "gamified" to be fun but it should still follow at least basics of reality :D
3 minutes in and Ive learned more than the tutorial has taught me.
I’ll start the pich to Paradox for implementing this video in the tutorial :) Thanks for the feesback! //TheRealBoppus
A question about air: is it best to assign planes manually to airports/regions, or is it enough to assign them to generals and have them organise themselves basically?
I actually never assign them to generals. I want to control the air even though i forgot about it when recording :) so I dont know, but will look into it! //TheRealBoppus

You want tanks, you always want tanks, tanks go wroom and are more fun :) //TheRealBoppus
I feel like you're in the same boat as me, really trying to make the navy game work as intended but you really picked the wrong navies for this. Go run as the US or Japan, you need those bigger sized 10-20 sized sub fleets to get full coverage in the south pacific. Plus the Anti Sub task forces will fall pretty quickly when you up their aggression afterall CLs and DDs are just as susceptible to torps as anyone else. Try playing the game more as intended then try to fit the navy to that, that's what PDX is trying to do and you'll see the issues more. For example doing convoy escort or patrol around the Philippines is fine with the 4 DDs and 1 CL all the way until you meet the japanese SF and they your SF comes in and then all the poistiong goes to hell. Also sadly as much as positioning was the 2019 attempt to stop the deathstack it clearly didn't work. But don't get me wrong nice work breaking it down.
Thanks a lot mate for all your feedback! I’m not really trying to point out the meta here. The reason for that is that I mostly play MP but I make guides that should be able to fit both MP and SP. So for the guides, I just try to break down the mechanics and then everyone can make the most of it themselves :)
@@hyggegaming I get what you're saying just as bad as a positioning penalty is clearly the deathstack overcomes it and doesn't even incur that many losses for it. It's a shame these stats don't work as intended very well
Okay you can't run a mod to cap the navy then tell us "how to navy". That still means we need to fix the deathstack. But I get your sentiments.
I see your point. But the only difference is that I split my main navy into 2 navies instead of 1 which I would in vanilla, and you can overlap with them :)
Yeah the only issue with all of this is: You can do all that and hold the areas the UK did. I mean really UK held down the Med, England, India, and helped in the Pacific. So you can min/max (or in this case just make a proper DD) but you can't have it all. So for now I consider this a game bug because subs didn't last all that long when the UK and US got after them.
@6:53 maybe not the right nation to test I'd be curious how the US and UK fair, moreso US since they get so much for strat bombing. The rest is stuff you learn if you just don't want to give any ground as the Soviets....like literally no stepping back.
Might I suggest making a guide about Admiral Traits, many of them are obvious but some are less so. Example: Fleet Protector with Screening Efficiency and Spotter and Search Pattern Expert with Spotting Speed. Spotting imo is the biggest of questions because of how it could be used or ignored in the math of the mechanics of the game. Is it used in Escort or Convoy Raiding? Is it used primarily in Patrol? Everything about it would say yes to me but Paradox has made so many things in the game semi hidden to the player and they could fix it by updating the localization tooltips. Part of that problem is that so many players don't care at navy at all or not enough or the solution is just to produce more and try to swamp the opponent without really understanding the stats and the admiral traits. Not every country has 10 admirals to chose from at level 4 or 5.
I will take your idea right as it is for a guide :) thank you! It’s put in the backlog! /Badger
@@hyggegaming Thank you. I blame Paradox making a million different stats, effects, ect but not doing much in the way of actual explanation either in showing the math or updating tooltips even for naval actions the tooltips should explain what stats are involved (Surface detection and subdetection for instance). Its stuff like this that turns people off about the navy system because it isn't supported at the games base intent.
if you make a grinding generals and admirals guide i promisse you i will buy the patreon
Will this do? ;) HOI4 Guide - Hidden Skill Mechanic for Generals Explained czcams.com/video/vtbKQjpGotQ/video.html
@@hyggegaming this is very helpfull, but please make a video about how to get level 8 generals out of spain civil war
I’m not sure what you want to see?
There's one thing I know about navy. A 3:1 ratio of small boats to big boats is needed. And I wouldn't be surprised if I'm wrong.
Well, you’re not wrong :) ❤️ that’s for screening efficiency.
Suppose you and I have a naval task force in combat against each other with 1 aircraft carrier, 1 battleship, and 1 heavy cruiser. Suppose also that I have 7 light cruisers, and you have 28 destroyers, and that my 7 light cruisers collectively have the same HP that your 28 destroyers have. Neither side has a real advantage in penalties then. I will suffer a screening penalty due to not enough screening ships, and you will suffer a Naval Positioning penalty for having about 3 times as many warships as I have. A destroyer has a notoriously short combat radius, so for a long distance invasion support mission or for a long distance convoy escort mission, sometimes the destroyers have to be shed from a task force in order to have good enough task force range, at the expense of causing a penalty for not enough screen ships.
now I understand why my submarines always got sunk in the channel... also I understand now why my little german fleet with super heavys can so easily sunk the british grand fleet
Glad you liked it :) just FYI, the channel is shallow sea, where subs have increased visibility as well
man it sucks navy is near useless so cool but far too niche
I have spent last few weeks trying to build good navy as Italy, and after binge watching a lot of guides in the channel yesterday, i finally managed to build one. Previosly i have been just trying to maximize the output, knowing the proper fleet composition etc, but didnt really know the mechanics,- which resulted in me just maxing out everything in every ship. A lot of ic wasted. Managed to take down 250 strong british main fleet in med with just 110 strong fleet, without even doing the supermarina and imrpovements below that. Would love to get naval research guide from you guys too.
Thanks for the comment and we are happy to hear you are enjoying the channel. Navy is a really exciting part of the game but it takes a while to really get it, i wouldn’t say i have yet either but Bager is coming real close now to cracking it. Nice that it’s giving results, the feeling of sinking an enemy fleet is always epic! :) //TheRealBoppus
The amount of units i have lost on force attack is counted on thousands. Thanks for explaining in depth
Yeah, you dont want to overdo it, especially with bad breakthrough so you take that 4x damage :) //TheRealBoppus
Helpful video, thanks
Happy you like it :)
