BUDDY HOLLY & THE CRICKETS - PEGGY SUE (ED SULLIVAN SHOW 1957 - in colour)
BUDDY HOLLY & THE CRICKETS - PEGGY SUE (ED SULLIVAN SHOW 1957 - in colour)
On this date in 1957, BUDDY HOLLY & THE CRICKETS released the single PEGGY SUE (September 20th 1957).
The video here is Buddy Holly & The Crickets performing "Peggy Sue" on the Ed Sullivan Show on December 1st 1957.
This is the actual audio from the show.
"To address the concerns of those commenting about the audio and picture quality; Ed Sullivan used kinoscopes until the fall of 1959, when he switched over to video tape," wrote Tom Smith.
"As a result, at that time, there is a marked increase in sound and video quality. Most TV shows of the '50's were recorded on kinoscopes as that was all that was available. We are fortunate that the Ed Sullivan shows were preserved as many kinoscopes of other shows are lost."
"As for uploading in HD, video footage can only look as good as the source material. Whether or not someone uploads in HD, it won't truly be HD if it wasn't shot in HD, and HD didn't exist then. Some people have uploaded this Buddy Holly footage with fake HD, and by over-laying the studio recording over the original audio track, which is why their posts sound technically better. Here you are getting the footage in its original form, with live audio (not an over-laid studio recording matched up to the original live performance) and looking the way it was originally broadcasted in 1957. You have to make allowances for the technology that was available at the time. Of course, the shows from the fall of 1959 onward exist in better condition since they were recorded on videotape and the technology progressively got better."
"Let's not discourage them from uploading these vintage kinoscopes, because the 1950's (as well as the early 1960's) episodes of Ed Sullivan featured some of the greatest performers, and much of the footage is quite rare. I'd love to see all the musical performances from the black and white episodes."

THE BYRDS - MR. TAMBOURINE MAN (in colour) I've colourised the restored video courtesy of Smurfstools Oldies Music Time Machine (czcams.com/video/e8-5MeMEozI/video.html). The debut single by THE BYRDS, MR. TAM...

JOHNNY BURNETTE and THE ROCK & ROLL TRIO - LONESOME TRAIN (in colour) The video here is JOHNNY BURNETTE and THE ROCK & ROLL TRIO performing LONESOME TRAIN taken from the 1956 Black & White movie 'Rock, Rock, Rock'. I've upscaled and colourised the original film. The audio is playing slightly fast in the page but hopefully that doesn't spoil your enjoyment of this classic performance. Rock, Rock...

PINK FLOYD - SEE EMILY PLAY (in colour) I've upscaled and colourised the 'See Emily Play' promo video. The video is actually a promo film of the single's B-side 'The Scarecrow' with the group miming the song in Brussel's Parc de Laeken (Laeken Park) in mid-February 1968. Released as their second single in June 1967, SEE EMILY PLAY was written by original frontman Syd Barrett and recorded on 23 ...

ELVIS PRESLEY performing TROUBLE in the 1958 movie KING CREOLE I've just colourised these iconic scenes from the movie. What do you think? Directed by Michael Curtiz and produced by Hal B. Wallis, King Creole starred Elvis Presley, Carolyn Jones and Walter Matthau and was based on the 1952 novel 'A Stone for Danny Fisher' by Harold Robbins. Elvis later said that playing nineteen-year-old Danny ...

THE CRAMPS at NAPA STATE (1978) - I’ve remastered the footage and colourised it. On June 13th 1978, NAPA STATE HOSPITAL in California became the setting for one of music’s strangest gigs featuring THE CRAMPS. “We’re The Cramps, and we’re from New York City, and we drove 3,000 miles to play for you people,” announced Lux Interior following his band’s first number, ‘Mystery Plane’. Part of series...

7th July, 2006 Syd Barrett took his leave from this plane, to 'See Emily Play'. Sometimes the rest they seek can only be obtained, when they brush the dust of this Earth from their feet. RIP Syd & thanks for sharing your thoughts, before they were stolen from you 😊
Very well done.
🗣 This is my favorite song by *Pink Floyd* from the beginning of their career .
Another side of punk, so good ! Do you know where I can find The Scars ones ? THXS
Reading Head On, Julian's autobiography. Gets to page 204, then to You Tube . Cheers!😊
Love the ‘Aargh’ ‘Aargh’ bits at 3:15 ❤
Get a job why am I the twice messiah to comment on this saw them warehouse leeds big fan before always will be
I wonder if anyone knows it was Dean Collins who choreographed the swing dance routines for most of Hollywood at the time. He pretty much defined the look and feel of swing dance for L.A. and California until West Coast Swing came along. He passed the dance on to a number of swing instructors who are still alive and teaching what you see here.
why dafud did you changed the keytone?
0:01 - Accept Yourself 4:02 - I Don't Owe You Anything 8:20 - Pretty Girls Make Graves 11:55 - Reel Around The Fountain
Did anyone else listen to See Emily Play and think it sounds like David Gilmour singing?
Sped up and lowered in pitch sounds wierd adding to the effect
1979 haunts me
I was at the Pistols' Huddersfield gig, and it wasn't for kiddies, there was another one later on for people over 12 :) I taped it on my little recorder and John shouts, 'We're all fuckin' drunk, just like you should be yer punks, are yer 'avin' a good time or what? 'Ow else can yer avoid Christmas except through a bottle of fuckin booze!' Hilarious
bellissimo video con le immagini degli Hulme Crescents sullo sfondo, molto significativo e azzeccato della Manchester dei Joy Division e dello spirito urbano e psicogeografico della loro musica
A contender for the best song with the worst video award?
The captions are hilarious
What a great bio you wrote … In 82 I was so into listening to WLIR And college radio Listening to APB now just brings me right back to NYC and Long Island days of clubs and a different time for music Thanks
What a band. They deserve a lot more exposure, even though they have pretty much broke up for good.
Johnny Burnette was the first to invent Rockabilly music! Not Elvis.... That's why I say Johnny Burnette is the king of Rockabilly! Greetings from West Germany!

this is out of this world
BEYOND FUNKY!! ... Great song, even better performance...Almost seems like a dis to call this rock'n'roll -- but it sho' ROCKS (PiL, Bush Tetras, post-punk/No-wave stew: mix'n'roil.)
She’s a goddess..ever since ❤
Is Syd filming and David Gilmour is there already? :)
Chris Stein ain't bad on bass either
Merci.
Watching this video and their top of the pops first appearance bothers me so much. Syd is so full of life and vivacious. It's so sad to know how he ends up.
“Put on a gown that touches the ground.” There’s magic in that line.
THE worst video EVER made! Lol! Ever!
Don't be so bloody silly. This was 1968.
Shame it’s Dave not Syd
I've never heard of them. I'm an 80's flower. Amazing I can still find stuff and this from someone who wakes up and falls asleep to music. I love how they move on stage. They're a bit B52's on blotter acid.....yum.
This video has nothing to do with the track
Mama 🤤
Lousy camera work. Almost completely ignores McGuinn.
She useta do groupies. I woulda been there front row, pointing at my grinning face.
They were obviously still working this song out at this point. I love how Debbie forgot the second verse at 0:35 - everyone starts looking around at each other, for a second I thought they were going to start over 😉😉
the budget of this clip: a camera!
Had no idea about this charity gig and party til I saw Pistol. When I was growing up in the 70s the only reports of the Pistols were negative. This was fucking amazing, and done completely under the radar. True altruism.

BABY GOT BACK !
And only 2 comments.....this is pure genius, in the zone and utterly mesmeric....
Great song.

Wow fcnkn wow!
Where was it filmed? That looks like a substantial road bridge in the background and is prob still there.

Pink Floyd "See Emily Play" The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn Tower Records, 1967
Saw then many times in Birmingham-they never disappointed.
I'm hoping the master tape or a high quality recording of this exists and becomes available. I'm doubting it with it being missed out on The Jam at the BBC CD.
Wow this is literally heavy metal, I love when rock bands gets really heavy, an example of now days can be Muse, they are a rock bands and sometimes they release metal tracks.
