- This date in 1979 saw the release of the EARCOM 2: CONTRADICTION compilation that featured FROM SAFETY TO WHERE? by JOY DIVISION (Oct 18th, 1979).
An outtake from the ‘Unknown Pleasures’ sessions, FROM SAFETY TO WHERE? could, like any of the discarded tracks, have been released to acclaim. The track, together with its companion piece AUTOSUGGESTION, were released on Scottish label FAST PRODUCT’s Earcom 2: Contradiction 12".
Recorded in April 1979 at Strawberry Studios, Stockport, the slow but accelerating grind of FROM SAFETY TO WHERE? was adorned with flickering stabs of delay and subtly mixed acoustic guitars.
This two and a half minute track saw Ian Curtis debating his future and deliberating on domestic promises.
“No, I don't know just why
No, I don't know just why
Which way to turn
I got this ticket to use
Through childlike ways rebellion and crime
To reach this point and retreat back again
The broken hearts, all the wheels that have turned
The memory's scarred and the vision is blurred.” - Krátké a kreslené filmy
bellissimo video con le immagini degli Hulme Crescents sullo sfondo, molto significativo e azzeccato della Manchester dei Joy Division e dello spirito urbano e psicogeografico della loro musica
