"I need a hole where I'll find darkness now and if you hassle me mister, I might just lose my head". Any illusions that society is under control is blasted away by the ferocity of this song, a defining moment in the group's existence. It's a prediction of the state of the streets of London now. It's psychedelic heavy metallic energy music that the band never repeated.
I know the tragic incident badly affected him afterwards which probably caused the addiction to Heroin for a while London represents everything I despise a overcrowded cesspit of global financial powers
Stranglers wish i was back there late 70s this and rock u to the moon the best ever even now 58 year old and still getting a buzzzzzz , Rab fae Scotland
Fresh out of the navy in 77 and this music filled my local cafe, a great unforgettable experience and a step into a lifelong love for the band and a career in music as a saxophonist.
I remember and I believe the best version was ToTP . It blew me away. The band were drenched in blue light and it sounded awesome. Especially being a teenager and your parents grrumbling hating it made it sound better they couldn't get it. Nowadays teenagers look to their parents record collection for inspiration. It's not the same.
I think Tim Burgess-Charlatans, looks like a cross between Jean Jacques Burnell-Stranglers & Ian McCulloch-Echo & the Bunnymen. A UK No 11 for the Stranglers in February 1978 when it finished Blyth Spartans 2 - Wrexham 3 in FA Cup 5th Round replay at St James Park, Newcastle on a cold night of snow showers.
Vus à la Mutualité (Paris) en 83. Dantesque, mémorable ! JJ était descendu dans la fosse corriger quelqu'un qui lui avait craché de la flotte, remonté sur scène et repris comme si de rien n'était !
@@michelesmith1968 I just looked on the Net to find articles about it, and there's nothing I can see to say what really happened, or if the rapist was caught.
R.I.P Dave Greenfield, irreplaceable

I’m 58 mate and still get the buzz, seen them back in the day and seeing them in 2019. Love it.
Still as awesome as the day it was released upon an unsuspecting public.
One of the best tracks of all time. RIP Dave.
Fab band, Fab keyboard player. RIP Dave Greenfield
Dave's manic keyboards a key element of the strangers unique sound RIP
Their most under rated song
Absolutely agree with u on that. Remarkable how little attention it has got through the decades. Very powerful song, Im sure it has influenced others.

THAT is a bass guitar. Like a bloody chainsaw-sledgehammer through the chest.

Nicely aggressive, even 35 years on. Or maybe 40.
I always thought this was something to do with the film Straw Dogs. They killed his cat and they raped his wife.
its a reference to a friend who had been raped
JJ had better find the culprit and knock his head off!!!!
@@treasurehunteruk9718 perhaps he did
