I know this video is a couple of years old, but I would be interested to see how this project is progressing. And if possible buy a rally tower kit for my DRZ.

Mi Drz400e is hard to start and back fires once and while . But once warm it runs fine would you say maybe check the values are in spec thanks

I know this is an older video, but I’d rather have a factory opened airbox, then have to cut mine and butcher it, I need to dig into the Suzuki parts catalog and find out!

I'm wondering if you are still out there kicking it, trying to get it to start? Where was the sparkplug replacement and start video? You will want to top up coolant after running the bike and letting it cool too.

I put Horses reins on my DRZ. Now I run behind it and this saves my tyres.

I use a ratchet strap to get the carb back in. Taking it out is just a matter of disconnecting throttle cables etc, twosting sideways and pulling it out. I added a clip in one of my vids but will make another one showing the process. As far as metal parts- replace them. The cost of a new part (and seals) is way cheaper than trying to fix it without machining, and is the cost of owning a bike. With the service manual, you can strip the engine completely and rebuild it. Just follow their instructions. I recently resolved a hard start issue by replacing the cam lift shims. The timing chain didn't match the manual as well so I was reluctant to correct it. I eventually went by the manual specs, put the bike back and holy cow the thing ru s so much better. Trust the manual. CZcams is good to understand the procedures, but you need to follow the specs.

Most other markets/countries have a different carb on the S model, the CV vacuum carb. if you don't rejet after opening the air box it will run bad. JD or Dynojet, the needle being the critical thing. Or fit the FCR carb ;)

If the big decal wouldn't stick them why would some smaller decals ? I have the 25 litre Safari tank on my T7 and wanted to make up for the decals I already had on the standard tank but know from MX experience that plastic tanks weep fuel (as do many fuel bladders) so would very likely not work. I've learned to live with it.

How many km or miles did you have on it

Great video. I have the Keihin FCR-MX39 which is fantastic. One thing to note is if I went to a bigger tank I wouldn't be able to reach the choke, it's even hard now as it is! But I have the SM model so I'll stick with the stock tank. Also if you do the 3X3 plus a full exhaust system and Keihin carb look up the jetting. I took my bike to Dynoverks and they jetted it for me. 40hp at the rear tyre isn't near the European motards but it's enough to have a lot of fun without reliability issues. Also, a lithium battery is a great addition for the DRZ. The battery sits up high at the back of the bike and the stock battery feels like a 6 pack of beer where a lithium battery feels like a pack of cigarettes.

Great Video. Same issue on my EXC 300. How did you manage to get it to start again. Mine still refuses, even after carb, fuel and spark plug.

Mine’s done 10700km and the ticking has started, pulled out the chain tensioner and it is at full travel! So at 10700km of gentle commuting my supposedly bulletproof DRZ needs a new cam chain? Seriously? That’s pathetic! This’ll be my last Suzuki. Surely this can’t be the general experience? Even 50000km on the type of commuting riding I’m doing would be unacceptable? My car has 150k timing belt changes and is past 500000km. How did these things get a reputation as durable? I had Honda XR’s in the 1990’s do over 100000km without a repair to the engine.

I have a Drz400sm and I’m doing a stroker and big bore. I’m about to pull the motor out. The one thing about the Drz is it’s almost not worth it to spend the money on all the parts since a whole used bike cost less then the price of all the new parts I bought. The only reason I decided not to get rid of the bike is purely sentimental otherwise that pig would have been put out to pasture

FYI The manual says to elevate the front of the bike 30" to properly bleed it

Took a chance and paid for it. Most of the rest of us would have done the same. I think what got you was sanding those cam bearings. Live and learn.

Hi mate. Nice tower. I am trying to do make a simpler tower, lighter. Just for the phone/gps, odometer and a 12 v power socket. Followed your videos but i am not sure how did you fix the mount to the frame. Can you please give me some insight? Thanks

ive been there before. I got a 1991 Lexus es250 I'm rebuilding for the THIRD TIME because I refused to learn my lesson and be proactive. I got a Honda rebel with a blown crankshaft oil seal because I overfilled the oil and was like "it's a JDM shell burn the extra oil off" haha I totally feel your pain dude

Obviously WAY over tightened the clutch basket bolts. Puts you in a VERY bad, and possibly expensive, situation. ALWAYS triple check your torque specs per manual!, and on these particular bolts on the DRZ, the torque values are not that tight. And ALWAYS with multiple bolts, criss cross your slow, torque tightening sequence to insure a correct and proper seat/seal. Remember how easy these bolts were to remove?....I believe those DRZ 400 6 bolts are only tightened to about 7 ft lbs, just snug...."good-n-tight"...and a small dab of blue loctite wouldn't hurt either IMHO. Pay very close attention to finding the correct torque specs on any bike project, and save yourself a world of hurt!

Could you give me the purchase reference of the chassis protectors to avoid rubbing against the boras?
