      Cheers mate. Glad it helped! Something another viewer told me was that, in preping before the paint, I should use isopropyl alcohol (IPA) as it's less 'oil-like' than the degreaser I used.

    Thanks for the video. Not sure if I would do this. My paint still looks good. It's a 05, but I don't take it off road much. I do like the colors of the after market rims. Hope your paint job will last.

      If you're unsure do what I did on my first go.. use plasti-dip... if it messes up you can peel it off easily! and add a clear coat to lock it in! Probably the best way to go for a first timer!
      MY plasti-dipped road wheel set have lasted about 4 years and counting mate!

    hot tip: before removing tape run that bit of plastic you were tucking the tape with between the tape and paint should break any bonds between the 2 and decrease the chance of pulling up the paint when you take the tape off.

      That's a great tip! I should have added it in. But hopefully viewers see your comments they watch this.

    Just learned of this Plasti Dip from your video. Can you tell me if you had any issues (when previously using it) removing masking tape, given the overspray? I figure after a few coats the overspray across masking tape line would have built up so much that tear out would be inevitable unless you used a razor blade to assist removal. Not much different to latex house paint I expect in how it can occasionally tear out on tape removal. Thanks

      @OnTwoWheels  Před 2 lety +1

      Honestly the plastidip alone hold well, but it has a mild matt texture which will inevitably trap dust. So i used a clear-coat over it. My thinking was that the plasdtidip will make it easy to peel of one day when I need to take it off, but the clear coat will lock it in for now. 4+ years on it's holding up really well!

    Good job. I was concerned when you were wanting to use the export paint but the squirt paint left a nice finish. Just leave them out in the sun for a few days to cure and harden up. OEM black rims are either powder coated or 2 pack paint which leave a strong durable finish.

    • @OnTwoWheels
      @OnTwoWheels  Před 3 lety

      Yeah, after showing the EXPORT, I didn't want to shoot myself in the foot by using itwhen it says "no automotive use", and I had another option at hand. Squirt's paint is thicker due to the primer. And yes I agree, it's dry-to-touch, but I'm going to let the rims sit a few days!
      I would have loved to, but powdercoating is beyond my skill level... for now!

    Does this stays for long

    • @OnTwoWheels
      @OnTwoWheels  Před 3 lety

      If you plan to use it off-road, I found that plasti-dip lasts longer as it doesn't chip as much as regular paint.

    ...any decals or your gas tank wrap will fail because of the petrol fumes that outgas from the tank. Look at aftermarket decals---all have a gazillion holes to not trap the petrol vapor.

      Spraying with the tire on prevents any overspray from occurring where the tire bead seals to the rim.
