I came across your video quite by chance, and it is so timely for me. I did a search for recipes for Portuguese Custard tarts, having only recently discovering these tarts in, of all places, the freezer section at our local Costco, and my husband and I both loved them! Unfortunately, apparently so did many other Costco members, because when we went back for our third box, much to our dismay, the tarts were sold out. 😭 So I came across Jaime Oliver’s CZcams video for “quick and easy” Portuguese Custard tarts. Well, after watching his video, I realized that his finished product didn’t in the least resemble the ones we had eaten. However, whatever it was he made did look as if they would be quite tasty. Then I found another YT channel with an actual Portuguese baker making these luscious custard tarts, and I could see that, though the individual components of the recipe are relatively simple, getting to a quality end product would be no easy task for me, a 75 yr. old American woman who has never had very strong skills in the kitchen. No doubt the frozen custard tarts we fell in love with pale by comparison to any that a seasoned Portuguese baker would make. But, alas, because I am disinclined to attempt this recipe at home, and because I think the Costco sale was likely a one time thing, I may actually end up using Mr. Oliver’s recipe as a poor, but tasty, substitute for the real deal. Perhaps I can enjoy his more if I think of them just as a yummy little baked good, rather than expecting them to taste anything like even the frozen ones we got at Costco! I thoroughly enjoyed your video and giggled right along with you, knowing that JO’s recipe is in no way an accurate recipe for your country’s beloved, delectable bite of joy. But, his may have to serve us until either Costco brings back the frozen ones, or I die and go to Heaven, where these fabulous Portuguese custard tarts will take center stage on the Good Lord’s dessert table! You are delightful to watch, and I am going to subscribe. Thank you, dear lady!

Favorited this because this is my comfort food after a bad day. I can just crack open the pantry, and so long as I have peaches or pears, I can make a half sized version of this, put on a good movie, dim the lights, and have a big piece with a scoop of icecream.

95% of what I eat is vegetarian and as I love experimenting with vegetables in particular, I hardly notice that I'm not eating meat. Vegetarian patties or rissoles, plus hamburger bun are handy to have with you Sofia, as then you can make your own hamburgers where ever you have been invited. Eating tastier vegetables is a good start too, like asparagus, capsicum, beetroot and leeks. There are also lots of vegan cheeses available now. It is good to see the dilemma from your point of view. Love this video , especially watching till the end...

At long last Sofia is back with another amazing and entertaining video! You look happier and seem to be having fun so I hope you're doing better:) My friend is vegetarian, so whenever we get together for a celebration, we get him a vegetarian pizza and stuff. He does the same for me in terms of reflux-safe meals :) Also, hidden bacon sounds a lot like hidden cocoa/chocolate - my reflux nemesis! Oh, and where I'm from, bread is also a staple food and it's always on the table. What's your favorite kind, by the way? And what's the most popular kind in Portugal?

ooo, it's you! you have been very much missed! :) hope you are doing well! mmm carbs are the safest, and most delicious way to live :D my go to options at gatherings with food, is the chips/fries, posh bread, potato salad, or if no one minds, I'll make a chip butty :) (if you've not had one, its chips/fries in a sandwich with margerine/butter on the bread. Though some people make crisps/US chips sandwiches with ketchup, I find them to be too dry) BACON WATER?! blergh, sounds like the water is more tainted than [insert political party member name here] :P Ahh, tea and biscuits is best :)

I feel you on the part of being judged so harshly by other vegans if you call yourself a vegan but don't follow everything completely by the book, though I feel like it's mostly an online thing. I'm vegetarian and while I can see myself a mostly vegan diet one day, I too don't think it will be a complete switch as I would still want to eat my families vegetarian food (which will often contain dairy products) and I think that's fine. I feel like that online community of vegans is a bit too hardcore, they even treat vegetarians as if they have no morals, and have no issues cutting off family members that disagree. Not as easy when you are of an ethnic background

Wish I read this before I made them. Even if they are not anything like Portugese tarts, they don't taste good. The puff pastry did not bake under the custard and because I did not make the caramel, it was not sweet enough. I love sweets did not want to eat these. Creme fraiche harder to find. She's not rich and just wasted her money. Me too. Did you find a good recipe for the tarts? Let us know.

I still don't understand oven pasta. Maybe make a video on just that meal, because I would be interested in knowing more. In NZ you can buy for $1 , a packet of pasta with powered sauce in it. On the stove top you just add 250ml water, 50ml milk and 10 grams butter. What you can also do is add to it other vegetables like peas, broccoli and carrots. You end up with a tasty vegetarian meal for about $3. You may even have these pasta snacks for one (San Remo is the brand) in Portugal Sofia. Let me know please. It's great you commented because I forgot I was going to watch lunchtime with Sofia! :D I can relate to your dislike of insects: I put mosquito nets everywhere and they still manage to enter my domicile through some quantum physics means! Or maybe they get in thru the AC, I don't know :D
