Digital mirror in a Polestar 2, how to install it.
The Polestar 4 has a camera system for rearward vision since it has no rear screen. In this video a digital rear view mirror of very similar type is installed in a Polestar 2. In display mode the digital mirror provides a much wider field of view. And, whatever you have in the rear seat or in the trunk, it will not affect the camera vision.
The digital rear-view mirror kit used in this video is originally made for the Volvo C40 and it happens to fit the Polestar 2 very well. According to the Volvo accessory part catalogues in North America and Europe, one can find two versions:
Without Homelink, 32368474.
With Homelink, 32368475.
If your Polestar 2 has no Homelink from the factory, retrofitting the Homelink version is pointless since the vehicle will not communicate with it.
Installation time when making this video was close to four hours, partly due to the footage made and also since it was a completely new experience to do this job in a Polestar 2. After having watched this video, one can probably do an installation like this in two hours, maybe even slightly less.
The kit used in the video was given to the owner of the vehicle at no charge from the kit manufacturer, since there was no guarantee that it would fit.

    So you made several mistakes. First you didn't get the car fully charged (Didn't they know you were coming to p/u the car) 2nd You were driving it like an ICE car seriously 110km at near freezing temperatures. 3rd after realizing you can't drive it like you stole it you go and pass several cars and semi trucks on bad roads and bad weather where you trying to get into an accident? What did you think you were driving an American jacked up 4/4 Diesel p/u truck with a stove pipe. Personally I believe the Leaf performed just like it was designed to, The 40KwH Leaf was never designed to be a long haul vehicle, Long haul trips can be done with a Leaf but you need to follow the restrictions like slow and steady wins the race.

      Thanks for your comments. Yes I could probably have shortened the time of the trip by going a bit slower, but not a lot. However, it was an interesting and educative trip, learning by doing. The car also behaved well on snow, predictable and easy to handle, maybe the footage looks more scary than it was. I like the Leaf for commuting, it is an excellent daily driver. Long trips, no thanks, then I take another car. But as shown in the video, one can at least "move" a Leaf from one area to the other, if needed.

      Key locked in under the seat? That's a tricky one. Life without a spare key is risky. You need to break or destroy something to get in there. I would try to peel off the "saddle skin" by trying to get the small clamps at the inner edge to come loose. If you succeed with that, then try cutting off the foam in a way so that you can glue it back later. When you find the upper area of the metal "striker", grind that away. Like this you should be able to get the seat to unfold. And then you have quite a bit of work to rebuild it. Good luck!

    • @hoojiesgarage1542
      @hoojiesgarage1542 Před měsícem

      Hi Joseph. If you mean that little cogged steel plate that stops the variator at the end of the crankshaft from rotating, I made it my self. Draw the outline of the cogs of the variator on a piece of paper card board first, then copy it over to a 4 or 5 mm thick steel plate. It takes a bit of cutting and grinding but in the end that tool was very handy to have. Regarding the torque, I do not know. Was there a spec on a paper in the kit? I think not and if I'm not mistaken, I tightened it to a torque that I felt was good/reasonable based on my experience. If you have not worked on a lot with things like this, try calling the nearest Honda workshop. Or, measure the diameter and pitch of the threads and try to find a torque recommendation for something similar. Or, undertighten it somewhat but apply thread lock liquid on the threads. If the nut would start to come loose, I would think that the variator would separate and you would loose speed.

      @hoojiesgarage1542 Před 2 měsíci

      Hi Viktor. The kit from Polini I bought second hand. The previous owner said that the speed increase was almost not noticeable but I still wanted to give it a try. As I went along with the installation I noted that the spring for the rear discs appeared virgin. I think this is the reason why the first owner did not notice much of a speed improvement. If the rear spring is not replaced, the new variator will not manage to pull the rear discs apart to reach the needed gear ratio. The front diameter of the turn that the belt makes needs to be as big as possible, and the rear diameter needs to be as small as possible, then the best change in gear ratio is achieved.

      Hi Aden. The service intervals you note above are fine, engine oil intervals are even better than needed but that can of course vary depending on oil quality and drive cycle. Power steering fluid I did change partly every second year, I used a lawn mower vacuum oil service "pump" to suck up as much as possible and then I refilled with VAG power steering fluid. What I missed was to replace the crank case ventilation oil separator (every 60 000 km) at rear end of the engine. It is also wise to clear up the crank case ventilation tubes at the same time.

    There is specifications by Audi for which oil to use on the A2. Following those I could not use synthetic oil in my A2 1.4 Liter Petrol engine. Maybe the oil consumption is caused by the synthetic oil? Viscosity might be wrong? Great video and insight on the long term maintanance. Hi Stefan. The type of oils used was both according to VAG and Mobil specifications. This car still runs with over 550 000 km on the odo, so the oil is for sure not "bad". The high oil consumption was probably due to a clogged crank case ventilation, hoses and oil separator. Ok, Sillekrog is working now, there are new chargers at Karusellen, after that I was lost, only driveing slower will keep the temp down, no more than 85-90 km/h, did you use ABRP to plan your trip? Our 2014 24 kWh Leaf averages 50 km/h going long distans. The Leaf is slow but reliable. I go 900 km in 18 hours once a year in summer time, it works fine, lots of stops to rest.

      Hi Martin. Just took a look at the Circle K app and understood that the trip should work out fine, which it almost did except that I misjudged the first stint a bit. 50 km/h was about what I averaged in the winter. With the 40 kWh Leaf, it should average a bit higher speed in the summer but it is not really designed for long distance travel, it is more about Slow Turismo than Grand Turismo :-)

    You can charge anywhere…..not just shell.

    • @hoojiesgarage1542
      @hoojiesgarage1542 Před 4 měsíci

      Yes, of course. Shell was used just because Hertz at that point in time had teamed up with Hertz. The charge networks of all brands/energy providers are expanding and slowly charging gets less and less complicated.

    thanks for the videos ! could you meke more for the kia rio, how to change all the fluids: brake fluid, transmission fluid, and windshield wiper fluid.

    • @hoojiesgarage1542
      @hoojiesgarage1542 Před 4 měsíci

      Hi Mauricio. If you look at the Kia Rio playlist you can find a service video. It covers engine, transmission and some other things. Regarding brake fluid, there are some other videos on my channel here. In the Honda NSC50 brake pad video you can at least conceptually see how a brake fluid is replaced.

    Drove 4 hours with a misfire. Hopefully it is because failed injector.

    • @hoojiesgarage1542
      @hoojiesgarage1542 Před 6 měsíci

      Hi. Injector or coil, as can be seen the coil is easy to replace. When an injector goes, sometimes the misfire can be a bit random before the misfire gets permanent.

    was there much of a wait to pick the car up? did they work with you to put any apps onto your phone for the car or to help with charging? does the car have an onboard map with charging options? i’ve used ZapMap last time.

    • @hoojiesgarage1542
      @hoojiesgarage1542 Před 6 měsíci

      Hi Owen. Pick up was swift, might depend on day and time etc. No Hertz did not put any apps into my phone. The car has google maps in it so whatever you can find there, the car will show you. That could have been an option to search for the Shell charge station, but I happened to locate it at Shells website on my computer before heading up to Heathrow again.
