HOW TO DESRESTRICT A HONDA NSC50 VISION SCOOTER MOPED

  • The top speed of the Honda NSC50 Vision is in most countries restricted to 45 km/h. The restriction is done by a rather low gear ratio plus a rev limiter. The engine is however strong enough to pull a higher gear ratio. In this video a Polini variator kit that changes the gear ratio is installed.
    Please note that doing this change to the scooter might not be allowed for public road use in your area, check local legislation before doing a modification like this.
    An increase in gear ratio will however make the moped consume less fuel, if speed is kept at 45 km/h by the riders control.
    Polini also sells a high speed variator for the NSC110. Doing such a conversion is very similar to what is shown in this video.

    Thank you so much for this video. I had my Peugeot kisbee two stroke stolen from me so I had to dig up my old vision that hasn't run in years. Your previous video helped me a lot to get it back running, but I had forgotten how sluggish it is compared to the two stroke. Was wondering if this variator was worth it and couldn't find much info since not a lot of people are interested in optimizing this bike, but now I have my answer ! Will give it a try and hopefully I can climb hills a bit better. I think Polini also does a tighter belt for the Vision, might give it a try too

      Thanks, and good luck with your update. You are right, Polini has a belt that is rated at 769 mm instead of the original 785 mm. If they use the same standard for measuring then that might give a higher speed, if the front variator manages to pull the rear variator apart more. Hope you can come back with info on how your experiment worked out, it would be interesting.

      Hi Tomi. Yes that little "cogged" steel plate to lock the variator I made myself. A card board was put in position first and with a pen I draw the outline of the variator. Then I "copied" that in steel. Interesting to read that our scooters perform the same 🙂

    Dear moped riders, I'm wondering if there is a tuned set of cylinder and piston 70-90 for HONDA VISION 50 4T 2012 except for 3116518 Malossi Thermal Group 83cc. Or is this the only option to increase the cubic capacity?

      Hi Urban. Not aware of any other cylinder kit. An option could be to buy a crashed NSC110 and "merge" the two bikes together.

    Hi, thanks for the video! Do you think changing the spring is necessary?

    • @hoojiesgarage1542
      @hoojiesgarage1542  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Hi Viktor. The kit from Polini I bought second hand. The previous owner said that the speed increase was almost not noticeable but I still wanted to give it a try. As I went along with the installation I noted that the spring for the rear discs appeared virgin. I think this is the reason why the first owner did not notice much of a speed improvement. If the rear spring is not replaced, the new variator will not manage to pull the rear discs apart to reach the needed gear ratio. The front diameter of the turn that the belt makes needs to be as big as possible, and the rear diameter needs to be as small as possible, then the best change in gear ratio is achieved.

    Hi, nice video thanks. I just bought the same scooter 2nd hand and the previous owner has already installed this kit. The scooter also goes 55-60 kmh but it is very slow at accelerating from a stand still and going up hill it is also a bit of struggle. Do you think it is possible to keep the scooter «legal» by using lighter roller weights (maybe 3 gram weights?) so it goes 45 kmh, and still keep the benefits of the derestricted variator? I thought this would be interesting for you to experiment with! Anyways, great video👍🏼

    • @hoojiesgarage1542
      @hoojiesgarage1542  Před rokem

      Hi JVB. Let me think. Lighter weights would have a hard time pushing the discs together at given rpm, so the engine would have to rev more to reach 45 km/h. Doesn't make sense to me, seems like one would end up with something pretty much like the original variator.
      To maintain a lower rpm at 45 km/h, but not allowing it to go any faster, one would have to set the rev limiter at a lower rpm, which is not easily done unless you know how to program ECU:s. Or by adding an external control unit like on an A- or EPA-traktor.

    • @JVBNorway
      @JVBNorway Před rokem

      @@hoojiesgarage1542 I was afraid that would be the case. My mother has a Vision 50 and she wants better acceleration, but doesnt want it to have any higher top speed because of legal reasons. Do you think there is a solution to this problem? I am leaning towards buying some rollers that are a gram or so lighter to see if that is satisfactory, but I am afraid it will loose top speed and slow down traffic even more.

      @hoojiesgarage1542  Před rokem

      @@JVBNorway Well, you can always experiment and see what happens. But if it feels really slow in acceleration, maybe there is some other issue with the bike? Low engine compression? Dragging brake?
