Laura you are awesome the way you manage the baby and vlog. Kudos to you
I’m loving shirts these days so no judgement here… and you have the coolest fabric!!!!
Love the banana fabric, it looks great as a shirt. I thought of a jacket when you held the monkey/pineapple fabric up as the back would really show off the mirrored pattern. It would look fab.
I'm leaning towards a pinafore for more use, I don't wear a lot of jackets! But I need to work out the right pattern
@@TheSpeckySeamstress it will look great as a pinafore too!
Your pineapple fabric would look great as a Peppermint magazine Wide strap maxi!
Oh I love that but I'm not sure I'd wear irz maybe I'll try to find a similar shape but in a more traditional pinafore style?
I thought that the fruity bias tape was well timed. It's in both of my sewfruity dresses. So brilliant forward planning. I think that I would consider making a duster type jacket with that black and white fabric. Something that allows the pattern to be seen, so something big or a midi length circle skirt
Honestly we had planned it for LAST year's sew fruity, but life got in the way a bit! We think it's been worth the wait though!
I have also found the Joanie shirt and love the paattern. I've only made one (so impressed by your output with two small children) but have another two planned. With that fantastic pineapple/animal fabric my instinct is a jacket. Something like a chore style jacket so there aren't too many seams to disrupt that amazing print. If you did some careful pattern placement you could have a stunning back!
I love the idea of a jacket but I don't think they really work in my wardrobe - I just don't wear them 😔.
I would make a fab tote bag with the pineapple fabric 🍍🍍🍍
I am starting to wonder if a bag would be a more sensible use. It'd be a great big slouchy beach bag for days out with the family
@@TheSpeckySeamstress it would be a fantastic bag xxx
The upholstery fabric is lovely, inside & outside. Could you make some sort of jacket? It wouldn’t need lining either because of the contrast. Worth a thought! 😊Sue (Australia)
I'd love a jacket but I don't think I'll wear it .I'm wondering about revisiting the idea of a pinafore
Architectural long skirt in the upholstery fabric 🦖
It could be really cool, I wonder what pattern I could use.
I love the black and white fabric my thought was a gilet
It's so cool isn't it. It'd be a really cool gilet but I don't think I'd wear one unfortunately.
Your shirts are great. I find shirts very wearable and have quite a few Gilberts. Also tried the Este, which is a slightly different variation. I wondered about turning that lovely elephant and pineapple fabric into a pair of culottes. A nice wide leg pair would show off the pattern and could be matched with lots of different tops.
Oh cool! I'm not sure I'd want trousers in this fabric, I think it might be a bit sweaty in the crotch 😂
How about the everyday shirt by the avid seamstress I made one in corduroy ❤ the fabric
Oh I think it might be a bit heavy for a shirt, but I love the idea of a cord shirt!
How about the everyday shirt by the avid seamstress I made one in corduroy ❤ the fabric
oh I love that monkey/pineapple fabric! As soon as you held it up I thought of a Pattern Emporium Smitten jacket. I think that would look amazing. Good luck with your choice.
Great shirts! I’m not familiar with that pattern so I need to look it up. It’s a great shape, and I have several different fabric bases I want to try. I’ve been on a bit of a shirt/blouse journey. 😊 As for the home dec fabric, I’d highly consider a skirt without too many seams. It’s a spectacular print! Hmmm…a jacket or waistcoat would be great, too. Sew on!
I am wondering about a half circle skirt with a bib as a pinafore?
Love your shirts, wonderful. Really like the black/grey fabric. Think pogonip would be good, or an Ilford jacket or similar, would be good to have unlined so you see both sides, and heavier would work for autumn. Look forward to seeing what you make, too nice to pass on
The Pogonip I think will be my backup choice if I can't decide on a pinafore pattern
I really enjoy having you back Laura.
Ah thank you, that means so much!
Your sewing space is looking very nice. I hope you do manage to get some of your sewing plans completed. Baby is gorgeous 😊
Baby is gorgeous Laura…looking forward to your makes….enjoy your quiet time ❤😊
Thank you for talking about zero waste and giving my patterns a whirl. Loved hearing the baby in the background :)
Interesting video Laura - thank you 😊
I have a skirt that's about 96cm from the top of the waistband to the hem, and it's about ankle length on me. I'm 171cm (or around 5'7.5) tall and about a UK20-22 in RTW, for reference.
I'm 173cm and this feels similar for me !
Thank you Laura great vlog and was lovely hearing baby join in ❤😊
Guthrie and Ghani sell fabric in 10cm increments if that's any help to you?
When I hear about zero waste patterns I think about the sunk cost fallacy. The thing is, the fabric is already bought. Whether or not you have scraps at the end. If you want to keep the scraps out of landfill then pet beds are always most welcome at animal shelters
You're right, and I often fiddle with zero waste patterns because little waste but worn is better than zero waste but not worn - but if you are buying specifically for a project - or just get totally overwhelmed by "scrap projects" then zero waste can be really great 😃
Really enjoy your videos. You're fun and creative and I so look forward to them! You've got me to thinking cause I've got some really fun cotton with a dinosaur pattern I want to make into a shirt! And I've got a bed sheet with a desert theme and I want to turn it into a shirt dress! I'm tired of dull boring clothing! thanks Laura for your inspiration xx
They sound amazing! Life is too short for boring clothing!
I don’t think a person is ever too old for dinosaur underwear! That gets my vote!
Oh definitely not a too old thing!!
Take care and hope bub is ok.
I love the fish fabric - it will look lovely made into a work dress. I totally agree about the stress of what to make at a sewing social. It's lovely to hear what you have been doing xx
Isn't it beautiful!
I really like the dress you're wearing here but I totally get what you mean about changing what you like wearing. Love the two outfits for the boys, hope the day goes okay
Yes I want to love it still but if I'm honest with myself I just don't
So lovely to catch up with you on a Friday! The gored skirt is absolutely gorgeous. I am in my skirt era too atm. Love it. ❤
Thanks Amelia! I need to make myself some little cropped woven shirts/blouses to go with them now!
Very impressive sewing week Laura, esp as you're so busy with your baby and toddler. The dress you are wearing is gorgeous and really suits you. Thank you for the chat!
I'm trying my best to get things done where I can!
Good morning! It’s a shame you’re not fond anymore of the dress you’re wearing. It looks great on you. But tastes and needs change too. Onward! The skirt you made looks so fun to wear.
Absolutely, I won't get rid of it just yet, but pop it away to look again once my body has settled postpartum I think
I think the pheasant fabric will look cute on the boys & so sorry to hear about your hubby’s grandad. Oh he is just so beautiful, enjoy.❤
I made them up yesterday and they look amazing! 😍
OMG, he is gorgeous, congratulations, what a blessing.
Thank you!
Skirts…it really is finding the length that fits your individual proportions, regardless of trends!
Absolutely!
Sorry to hear about your husband's grandad - I hope he's not feeling too sad. Love the idea of the pheasant boxers 😂. About the 20 minute sewing blocks - I've just returned to sewing after a very long gap but because of a very bad back I can't actually manage much more than a 20 minute stint - especially cutting out but I'm actually finding it very relaxing. I don't get as frustrated as I used to because I walk away and think about it and then somehow I find solutions. So embrace the 20 minute sessions and enjoy.
It's great you are finding joy on your return to sewing. You're right it gives you space to think b
Very much enjoyed the chat, and seeing Oliver. Lots of great ideas and plans
Ah thank you! I had a lot of fun filming it
So sorry to hear about your husband's grandad, but making something for the boys is a lovely touch for the funeral. Great fabrics - the turnip one is so much fun! You can be playful in your dress and professional at the same time. As a knitter as well as a sewist I'm looking forward to hearing about your knitting and plans for what to make.
Congrats on little mans safe arrival. Can't wait to see your next makes.
Congratulations on the new baby! 🍼 Your new eye glasses look gorgeous on you. 💖
Thank you! They're from Pair Eyewear
Never mind the fabrics, your baby is lovely 🙂
Id have to agree!
congrats on your beautiful family!
and your dress look amazing!
Thank you, on both fronts!
Lovely to see you Laura, and to see the little one too, he's gorgeous. Take care
Thank you! Hopefully I'll manage to film and upload semi frequently still :)
So wonderful to see you back and so happy as a family of four xx
Beautiful baby. Thanks for sharing
Your blue Belle dress is beautiful and looks amazing on you. Lots of cool fabrics, I will watch what you make with interest. So good to see you back. Ollie is gorgeous, congratulations to you all 🥰
AHH thank you I can't wait to film a proper video about it. It's definitely a firm favourite now!
What a beautiful little baby, congratulations to you and your family.
Thank you!!
Congratulations on your new addition to your family!
I see no neon fabrics in there... lol and for a second there, I thought that first fabric was covered in tan-colored ghosts from Pac-Man lol and someone sounds rather impatient while waiting for Mom lol
Hahaha! The orange in the Bornella fabric is PRETTY neon to be fair! Love that, as a gamer I could totally go with the double meaning,n
