I was just looking for a video on technique and this wasn't it. Mostly review for me. Seemed to be targeting people completely new to fly fishing. Good info on rigging your rod though. Videos are long.

Very slick. Just got into euro nymphing, in fact I've just returned to fly fishing after a 25 year break and I've found your euro nymphing series really informative. One major difference I've picked up on from the setups people use over here in the UK is they don't bother with the fly line if you are using a 30ft mono rig. They just tie the mono rig directly to the backing. This makes the 'knot/join' even neater. Also fits nicely into your 'budget' option as you've saved money on a flyline you just don't use. They also use 'closed cage' reels to neate the mono getting pulled under the rim of the reel.

great video! why not just use a drop shot rig and you can always get the exact bottom feel for any fly combo, depth, current etc?

Instead of using mono, would braided line be better? Less stretch and apparently more sensitive to feeling bites. Probably cast better too.

Can you look at the camera once in a while like you’re actually talking to us? You don’t need tag ends on your sighter because you are using heavy gauge line. A nail knot is easy to tie using a simple nail knot tool. And if you finish your knots with Knotsense you will make them easier to pass through the guides. Have a look at Max Catch euro rods, they are fantastic value for money, they have extra large snake guides ( some are titanium coated to make them very hard wearing) to allow knots to pass through with Less friction and last but not least they are around $100 for a 11ft 2wt euro rod!

I can attest to euro nymphing..always outcatching my dry buddies..dont get me wrong..i still toss dry with pretty good success, but nothing compares to euro nymphing IMHO... but I'm just a guy...that likes to catch fish..l😂

None of my business what your occupation is but I have to say this, you Sir are a natural born TEACHER! I remember when I started the first video I was going to watch a few minutes of it and save it for today. I couldn't stop watching and actually learning. Had you been my teacher in high school I likely would have been on the Honor Roll instead of dropping out of school and joining the Army, (1969). I just finished the 3rd video and I'm craving more! Thank you once again for all the time and effort you put into this production as well as putting it into an easy to follow format! Can't wait to take this knowledge with me to my favorite trout streams down in Missouri!

2 years have passed since you posted this information. My only regret is that I didn't find this article before I spent all my spare cash on a Sage SPLCA (2wt) that I have been after for 10 years. Going to take me a minute to save up the funds for this project. I am a HUGE fan of Sage equipment . There will be a 10 1/2 foot Sage ESN in my stable ASAP! I only use a fly rod ...... trout aren't the only fish meant to be caught on a fly rod ever seen tarpon on the fly , Mark Sosins salt water journal I've caught pickerel on a fly rod ! So wild ...... they roll like alligators and action like that on a fly rod is amazing!

there should be no controversy over the squirmy worm plastic worms were made for bass why not a worm fly for trout or PANFISH ! , yes panfish ...... crappie , rock bass , perch , big bad blue gill ...... I've caught all those including bass on a wooly buger , similar to a maribu jig right ? ...... so is that not a fly to ? ca'mon , if a lure catches fish than for God sake , lighten the load on what is and what isn't a fly(lure) honestly

Very sensible teaching

Thank you for all of the very informative videos. How are these jig hooks as far as same shape and size as compared to a Hanak H450BL? For example is a Sabor #5230 size 14 the same shape size as a Hanak H450BL 14. I do like Sabor hooks and would buy some but, I just need to know if the two hooks are the same hook for a size #14 in each. What I mean is a size #14 is not alway the same for all hook manufactures. I have used a Sabor #7020 in place of a Mustad 3906. I hope you understand my question.

How do you Euronymph in a stream that has tree trunks and debris on the bottom, seemingly making it impossible to drift nymphs close to the bottom?

Man I’ve looked everywhere for what you use (size and beadhead or non bead head) on your dropper? I’ve been having decent luck euro nymphing as I literally just started this method 2 weeks ago. Mono rig with 18 ft 15 lb butt, 4ft 0x sighter to Tippett ring, 5ft Tippett, dropper I was using a 20 bead head brown midge, 14 tungsten perdigon as point. My question is what do you use for your dropper fly? Would a 14 point and then a 16 or 18 tungsten dropper be to heavy? Right now runoff has our river at around 700-900 cfs. Typically around 2-3 ft deep And btw your videos are very informative and no fluff. Just the good stuff that is actually helping me get better at this method. And more fun!
