For anyone tying this fly, there are 2 modification I would make compared to the video.
1. Use a slotted tungsten bead if using jig style hook. It will sit better on a jig hook.
2. The silver wire I use in the video is a little thicker than it could be. It was a .008" or 0.2mm wire. I would recommend a thinner wire to keep that thin profile. I now go with .004" or 0.1mm silver wire.
Cool! Subtle! Simple! Very cool! There will be some of these packed for my trip down South! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge & time!
Simple and a quick tie, you can't beat that!
I like simple patterns that are effective! This one has a bit more to it with the UV Resin but still pretty easy.
Great tie. Simple and effective!
Those are my favorites... simple and effective.
Will definitely be tying this one. Thanks for the video. Please keep showing euro style nymphs to tie.
I plan to keep adding fly tying videos through out the year. It helps me explore more options myself and expand my own fly box too. Only problem is I keep giving away my flies and have to tie more 😂😂😂
Great job on the Zebra Perdigon. I see a lot of cool variations on the Perdigon, and it’s definitely a productive fly. Thanks again for all the great videos!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love your teaching, watch many times on youtube, really helps me improve my game!
Thank you! I appreciate that! :)
I enjoy watching the tying videos. I learn something new all the time . Thank you
Excellent demo, as always everything is explained and practical, just tied up 25 regular zebra midges in various sizes. Now I have a new project for this week. Thanks for your time and your channel!!
I never have enough flies! 😂 I honestly need to spend so much more time tying but I never seem to have time with everything I try to do. I have dreams of full fly boxes and lots of options but it doesn't really happen 😂
@@WhiteDogTrailCompany I understand, these days just don’t seem to be able to push enough time aside to tie and fish. Hopefully this next few months will level out so I can do some layovers and fish Wyoming and South Dakota, Colorado the 3rd week of July. Are there going to be any more of the euro fishing series. I bet those are really time eaters. Looking forward to whatever comes down the line
YES! Definitely more coming in the Euro Series on the more advanced side. I'm doing a lot of fly tying videos so I'll be ready for the Fly Selection video. And there will be more "breaking down water" videos. Someone had a great idea of "When to NOT Euro Nymph" which I'm planning as well. On the adventure side I have some good stuff planned this year. If my kids go on a trip they're supposed to do, my wife and I will be free and are planning on heading to Maine for a week where we'll film the whole adventure. It's a trial run for what we want to do in retirement and even the summers after the kids are gone. Our plan is to travel, fish and film our adventures!
I just tied 5 of these. I’ll try em tomorrow. Thanks for the instruction
Love your Videos and I appreciate all you do for the fly fishing community. I also like that this video is out on my Birthday Day . Tight Lines and keep these videos coming !!
Well Happy Birthday! And I appreciate your words on what I do for the community 🙂❤
Love the fly tying vids keep doing how to tie more euro nymphs love the content 🎣🐟
I definitely plan on more fly tying throughout the year!
Nice fly and great explanation. Very easy to follow. Thanks.
Thank you!
GREAT FLY TO USE, EASY TO TIE, THANKS
You're Welcome! :)
Best teacher on CZcams ,Thanks
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! ❤
Great fly. Thanks for all your great videos.
Thank you for joining along! 🙂
I love this fly. Thanks so much. I can’t wait to try this fly
Cool! Good luck with it!
Love the UTC threads as well, all flies nymph would be a great continuation. Thank you
Yeah... they're my favorite honestly. I need to do some restocking!
Thank you
Such great explanation of things in every video of yours. Thanks so much
Thank you! I'm a details and context guy 🙂
Nice looking fly!! Definitely an upgrade to the traditional zebra midge. Thanks for the video!!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the helpful instructions
You're welcome! Thanks for joining us for them!
Great fly tying euro nymph. Keep them coming!!
Thanks, will do!
Great looking fly and easy to tie.
Thanks 👍
Killer pattern on the Green yesterday. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Appreciate it !!😊
Sweet! Glad to hear you had success with it!
That's a great looking pattern.
Cheers for sharing
There are so many good fly patterns lol. I like this one a lot though.
Nice pattern. The Sulky tinsel is a great material. I will certainly tie these. Thank you for the euro content. I recently started euronymphing, with the help of your channel. My catch rate has drastically improved.
That's awesome to hear! I'm glad I can help!
Just started tying. Appreciate the info.
If you just started, I woud start with some of the other fly tying vides on the channel. Maybe the Peacock Ice Dub Nymph, the Walt's Worm, the Sexi Stone or the Caddis Larva. I have a fly tying playlist on the homepage our CZcams with our fly tying videos. Good luck and enjoy!
Thank you for the great instruction.
You are welcome! 😊
I liked the application of the UV resin. Doing it in two steps looks good.
I did 2 steps because I wanted more to fill in the wire ribbing a bit more. If it was a smoother thread body without wire then I might just do 1 application on the body. But thinner the better to start!
Hi & Thanks, love your fly tying videos 👍
Glad you like them!
flies look amazing, I'm new to euro. Thanks
Thank you! I have a bunch of euro nymph fly tying on the channel. Hope you enjoy!
Always like the black zebra nymph … this Perdigon should be a great addition to my arsenal. Also, nice job of explaining the entire process of making this fly!
Thanks! I like that one too!
Great information for someone new to fly tying 😀
Glad it was helpful!
Great pattern!! Definitely gonna tie a bunch!!!
Have fun!
Nice fly ! Gonna try this out as I love the midge pattern already!
yeah... always a great midge pattern. Would be good to tie really small like a midge too.
Great video. More perdigon bomber/euro nymph tying videos. Thanks for the instruction.
I may tie some perdigons with a bigger bead coming too... I like that bomb style and I like heavy flies. Will definitely be testing out a bunch this year!
Love your videos, waiting patiently for your fly selection video in your euro nymphing series
I wanted to get a few more fly tying videos in before the fly selection video but it will be the next video in the Euro Series. I expect to have it done this spring.
Enjoy your videos , nice easy fly .Thanks
Thanks 👍
Love your perdition videos
thanks for the video, im just getting into Euro nymphing and starting to look at easy to tie patterns on my skill level that I can use to get me on the stream. This is a winner, I got the materials besides the UV, which is on the way.
Sweet! Good luck! I have a bunch of fly thing videos and a whole euro nymphing series if you haven't found it yet. Here is the playlist for fly tying. czcams.com/play/PLuLwf7ym7i7ZKJSrh7WP-pftvhmwIytMK.html And here is the playlist of the euro nymphing series (highly recommend): czcams.com/play/PLuLwf7ym7i7bre38GWqk0pXZggydq3Z5m.html
I love the euro nymphs more tying videos please
Definitely more coming!
Sweet looking fly!
Thanks 👍
Great video. I learned a lot
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for another great video Brian. You’re on a roll!
Thank you, Sir! I have much more planned this year. Rolling out the fly tying videos because they're easier to do and I needed the time to build a new web site that I'm hoping to have launched this coming week. The fly tying also will help with the next Euro Nymphing Series video on fly selection.
Like it. Next on the list!
Cool... good luck and have fun trying different colors and materials under that resin!
Awesome fly I'll have to give it a try one day
I definitely recommend learning at least some sort of Perdigon as it offers some variation to your options.
Really like this pattern as a dropper. Thanks!
Thanks... It is a great dropper for sure! And thanks for joining the Pack!!!
Love the zebra pattern …. Can’t wait to learn it and use it
Sweet! Have fun and good luck!
Love your videos and any content from you is good content!
Thank you! I appreciate that! 🙂
You make some great looking flies keep up the good work .
Thanks, will do!
Never done any perdigons, will have to give it a try after you made it look very easy. Good job.
The key is keeping them slim and not overdoing anything.. it took me a while to keep them down to size.
Enjoyed the video. Looking forward to fishing this style.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for joining us! 😀
I've done similar to this in my euro nymph selection. The really cool thing is you can tie a super tiny body to imitate size 20-22 midges while still using a bigger bead and hook. Still quite effective for those fish keying on smaller midges.
Definitely!!! I love perdigons for small droppers!!
Great idea 💡! I have a hard time tying size 18,20 flies
@@captainkoo I don't know how anyone does it without magnification. I have good eyesight and I struggle with anything 18 and smaller that is 1x long. Even with the small body on a big hook it's tricky for me to keep them super consistent.
@@rushthezeppelin thanks. I’ll have to get me some magnifiers !
Can't wait to try this. May be interesting to pair with a zebra midge.
Interesting pattern!
I like the explanations of why you use what you use.
Thanks! I'm a details guy so I hope people pick up a lot from my videos 😊
New to euro nymph. Gona tie a few and hit the river
Thanks for all the teachings
Sweet! Good luck!
Cool little slim profile.love all the videos.tight lines and thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Real simple patterns
Great Stuff
Thank you!
Great stuff. Will be trying to tie my own flys this season. Defiantly would be nice to see more content on bead head fly tying. So i can have more selections to go by!!
I have several fly tying videos on the channel with most being heavy bead head nymphs. This playlist is all of my fly tying videos: czcams.com/play/PLuLwf7ym7i7ZKJSrh7WP-pftvhmwIytMK.html
@@WhiteDogTrailCompany Thank you. I will be going to the store tomorrow to buy supplies to try some of these out. Season for trout opens end of April here. So Im going to be following your tutorials to have some ready for then. And thank you for the other content. Im new to euro nymphing and your videos helped me get my equipment set up and ready for the season!!!!
Another box worthy pattern! Looking forward to the next one.
I just spend a bunch of money on supplies to tie different perdigons... 😂
Same, this year is my first year euro nymphing. I'm blaming your channel for the little confidence boost to make me spend a bunch of money on a new fishing equipment and tying supplies. Haha, I am really enjoying the new approach and technique.
@@jacobmccoy2279 HAHA! I know the feeling!
Love to learn about predigons !
Yeah... I'm going to be experimenting with some more perdigon patterns this week and plan to have a video of another soon!
Love all your videos
Thanks Joe! And congrats on the Steelhead on the Sexi Bomb! I'll share that on my IG at some point if you're ok with that.
@@WhiteDogTrailCompany Share it
@@WhiteDogTrailCompany Which wader boots do you prefer? I have some Orvis boots that are falling apart after three years. I understand Redington makes boots that have a special rubber which is sticky.
Great video, I really like the idea of the flash materials and will tie some using Krystal Flash.
That would be a great ribbing material! The wire makes the fly a little thicker once you add the resin. Krystal Flash would keep the profile smaller!
Looking forward to using some of these in place of my zebra midges. Would love to see more soft hackle flies on the channel! thanks!
YES! I really need to do some soft hackles!
This looks very good. I will try it. Thanks for your videos btw. i learnd so much. So much to try.
😂 Way too much to try! 😂 We all keep evolving our own fishing game. For me that's what keeps it interesting. If you're doing the same thing over and over it doesn't seem quite as fun 🙂
You are so right, such a versatile hobby (or life content), pure pleasure. Keep up the good work :)
This was a fastening take off on the ever popular and high producing fly. I have many Sulky Holoshimmer metallic threads and will try them on some jig hooks. I did Tina few jig zebras with various weights of silver lead wire for the rid instead of just plain wire. Keep up the good work and creative ties. Marty in Littleton, CO
Thanks! I was just tying a bunch of these tonight. Gonna add them to my online shop when I get enough tied!
Congrats Curt! Great tie tonight. Would like to see some hopper patterns!
Yeah! That would be a great late summer fly! I love it when they eat a big hopper!
thanks, Pete! and thanks for turning me on to White dog outdoors!
Awesome! Would love to see a flashback
Yeah... that is something I don't have on the channel at all!
@@WhiteDogTrailCompany perhaps a peasant tail flashback! I always catch them on that
Awesome.. very informative video as always 👍.. thanks so much for always sharing your fishing knowledge!.. I'll check out Black Dog shop when I'm in the area.
Cool! They're an outdoor shop with some cool gear, canoes, fly fishing, etc.
Cool fly, combines two favorites into one, the Zebra Midge and a Perdigon......kinda like first person putting peanut butter and chocolate together:)
😂😂😂 I read your comment to my family and they all laughed. 🙂
Nice looking fly. Gonna tie some up and try on the West Canada this week.
Tie them as a dropper and use a big Sexi Stone as your point! We've caught some nice ones from the WC on the Sexi Stone!
Please keep these videos coming. I really appreciate that you guys are based in the Northeast.
I do love the Northeast but hope one day to explore much more of the US! My wife and I plan to travel, fish and film much more when the kids are off on their own.
Nice tie. I’m about 30 to 40 minutes from Albany , nice to know about a new fly shop.
They're going to be holding a Cabin Fever day in April. It would be a good day to stop by. I'm planning on being there!
Great video. Never thought of using tinsel for a hot spot.
Yeah... it sparkles a lot and is more of an attractor than just red thread.
I have yet to fish midges or perdigon's so thank you for a nice tutorial. I will have to check out Black Dog as I am also from the capital region so thank you for that information as well!
Cool! Tell them I sent you! :)
Always enjoy your videos! I use Soloarez black for a wing casing. Much faster.
Yeah... I'm gonna be betting some actually along with maybe a few colors for hotspots...
Another solid video! As far as feedback for future content: more first-person play-by-plays of sighter revealing a fish-on. Love em'! Thanks again.
Yeah! I really enjoyed doing that! I need good camera work to really capture that well... but I definitely plan on more of that.
I've been having a lot of success with this fly recently by replacing the tail CDL with just 2 strands of red krystal flash. I've seen it called an inferno midge elsewhere, but I tie it exactly like a zebra midge perdigon just with that one replacement.
That sounds awesome! I might give that a try next time! Thanks!
I use red flash on my Pheasant tails too. I call it my Red-Tail Sniper. When they're biting, they hit it hard.
I’m a sucker for a quick and easy perdigon
I'm really liking them right now.
Great video hope to see some more steam stream videos in the spring!
You won't have to wait long. The next video planned is a small stream trip from last summer that I never got together.
Nice! Was wondering when you would get to these!
The options are endless 😂 I'm definitely having fun with Perdigons and will be trying several options this year. I'll have your prize package out for the squirmies along with the winner of the Rainbow Warriors hopefully this week.
Thanks for the video. I'm from middle Grove and have fished the kayaderosseross as far back as I remember, especially the upper areas.
Oh sweet! It is actually a favorite stream of mine in the "off seasons". I stay away when everyone else is out on it.
tthat's well . have a good day. 🌟
Thanks!
Hi.... We performed our drawing for the flies and you won the drawing. Message me on Instagram @whitedogtrail to claim the flies. Thanks!
What I have learned sing sally Hanson clear & UV coatings. To keep from getting so much liquid on my flies is to trim about 2/3 to 3/4 of Brussels off as soon as I get a new bottle. I pull the brush out clean liquid off and use my scissors or razor blade. I seem to have more control of my application with it that way. Hope this helps
Great tip! Thanks!
Thanks for the tutorial -- gonna tie a few up now. BTW, a drop of superglue spread on the hook shank will lock in the GSP and your thread spinning problems are over.
Thanks for the tip. I bought the GSP in a pinch as it was all they had but I've since restocked my threads so it probably will never get used now 😂
A few guys over here are using these for Atlantic salmon. Something I’ll try this year
Well... I did get the pattern from over in your neck of the woods! 🙂 Have you ever targeted grayling? Would love to see you do that! Not sure if that is an Ireland thing or not.
Hi Bryan I've been looking into the Saber jig hooks. There are 3 models, the 5220,5230 and 5240.Which do you prefer and for which applications...thanks
I use the 5230 and really like them!
Hi Guys! I always like tying videos as I tie my own! But I also like watching fishing videos!!!
I will definitely be doing more fishing films this year! They got sacrificed in 2021 for the Euro Series I was doing... but there will be more this year!
@@WhiteDogTrailCompany great!! Looking forward to it
I caught my first fish on a perdigon a couple weeks ago. I need to keep fishing with them.
Nice! They're a good fly to add to the fly box!
Love me some fly fish food! I’m in their store pestering them with all my stupid questions and exchanging my life savings for flies!
Nice! I wish I lived closer so I could visit them. One day when I travel the country I'll stop in all of the fly shops I want to visit!
Nice One! I would see a variation of a Goddard Caddia
Really nice job. I've seen a few videos of the perdigon fly being tied now and every time I'm curious, I'm led to believe we use jig hooks as they are supposed to fish upside down so's not to get hung up on the bottom as much. That being the case should not the wing case be formed on the other side of the fly ?
That question comes up a lot actually! Devin Olsen from Tactical Fly Fisher (one of my heros) wrote an article about this and I've heard him address it on his channel as well. When a nymph is caught in the current, it is tumbling and is not always right side up. So the wing case doesn't really need to be on the part of the fly facing up. On the other hand, I do not think the wing case is even really needed. We put it there, but it would likely fish the same with or without it. I put one on because I like it.. not because the fish like it 🤣
Great fly. Pls demo on how to use high vis sighter tippet
I do have a video on how I tie my leader system including high vis sighter. It is here if you haven't seen it. czcams.com/video/SK14yTfem1A/video.html
I got holographic thread at Joanne fabric that works great.
That sounds like a great option!!! I'll check it out!
Gotta fish with ya!
I gotta stop working so I can fish with more people! :)
I would like you to give more details on bead to hook size ratio. Or do you use lead wire in conjunction. I'm in Calif.and nymph primarily for steelhead. The Fly Shack is my primary fly shop for the majority of my tying materials.First time seeing your videos and they are impressive. I run a fly shop in Calif for Bass Pro Shop.
Cool... One of the things I really want to do for the Fly Selection video coming in the Euro Nymphing Series is weigh my flies so people can see just how heavy I tie them most of the time. I think people often fish flies that are too light and they're not getting the right feel in some cases. In terms of bead size and hook size you can kinda do what you want. Some people tie the Perdigons (and other flies) with abnormally large beads. They look a little interesting but still catch fish. I tie lead into most of my flies but not in the perdigon because you are really trying to keep the body of the fly thin. For my typical nymph like a caddis, walts worm, peacock ice dub, peasant tail... I'll use a 1/8" (3.2mm) tungsten bead and a few wraps of lead on a size 14 or 16 hook. With the perdigons I'm typically using a size 16 hook and a 7/64" (2.8mm) tungsten bead but no lead. I did buy 1/8" (3.2mm) tungsten bead to tie some heavier perdigons.
BTW, it amazes me the capital district doesn't have a local fly shop. Nice to see Glenville get one but Albany area is so nicely located.
We had Goldstocks for many years but they suddenly closed one day and that was it. I literally pulled into their parking lot to find a sign on the door. 😢 Fly Shack is great but they're probably almost an hour away from me.
