A Dahlander motor (also known as a pole changing motor, dual- or two speed-motor) is a type of multispeed three-phase induction motor, in which the speed of the motor is varied by altering the number of poles; this is achieved by altering the wiring connections inside the motor. The motor may have fixed or variable torque depending on the stator winding. It is named after its inventor Robert Da...

    I started my apprenticeship in a joinery factory in 1988, we had to slowly swap all the star delta machines over to DOL as they each failed, this meant they would not start on load. So if you got a massive plank of oak stuck in the planer, you would have to wind it out manually or swap two phases over to reverse it up. So yeah, the covers were off the controls and full of dust mostly.

    I use to work on a lot of control and pump motors that date from the 1950s that were still in use . Lovely old oil pots and contactors . Spent time cleaning them up for annual maintenance and inspections. Good days . Now they have been all ripped out to new cheap Chinese crap

    Love this sort of stuff. You have to be pragmatic when working on this older gear, for older chaps. They have lived to a good age, around high risk machinery, because they aren't fcukwits wrapped in cotton wool! You could encourage them towards a nice little VSD to tidy this up. More offensive stuff is always good too! You are right.......some 'sparks' would run away from this and cry!!

    The heat generated at the poor contact is P=I²R, so you don't need much resistance to generate a kW of heat if you've got a good flow of current. All that heat is generated right at the point of resistance, so it gets extremely toasty in a hurry.

    As long as you uphold your duties with regards to PUWER your black work tool is fine....PUWER requires that equipment provided for use at work is: suitable for the intended use. safe for use, maintained in a safe condition and inspected to ensure it is correctly installed and does not subsequently deteriorate. used only by people who have received adequate information, instruction and training. 😅

    I know you like your paperwork for your accounts, but don't you think that makes it difficult and time-consuming for yourself, if you were doing it electronically you can easily do your "books" when you're away. You don't need to splash the cash for something fancy, I use something called Freeagent that you get free with certain high street banks business accounts. it does your estimates, invoices and matches income and expenditure coming in and out of your bank account, time spent for me doing my accounts is next to nothing, and I can do it anywhere. Aside from that, I enjoy your unique take on a working blog, keep it up

    Say it as it is. I'm surprised Heat Geek sold out so quick but was also curious as to how he crawled out of the pit so easy as well. Money always goes to money. Screw the folk who really do the work. Really quite disappointed by this unholy alliance of greed and self interest.

  • @BristolHeatPumps
    @BristolHeatPumps Před 12 dny

    Unfortunately Octopus are handpicking the easy heat pump jobs that suit their algorithm, these customers are simply not getting heat pumps at all after being told that a heat pump isn’t suitable for their home by octopus- which is incorrect in alot of cases. We will be quoting any leads directly without octopus giving any estimates - i do think we won’t convert many of the leads at all due to Octopus’s saying they can fit a heat pump for £500 after the grant which is ridiculous if you are trying to install them to a high standard achieving high efficiency’s. If we are going to decarbonise most of the heating in UK homes everyone has to work together which is the main reason for this “partnership”. With regards to the kickback off leads i find the majority of people we go to are already on an octopus tariff already 😂 I would be interested to know more about what octopus have done to electricians in regards to EV chargers etc?

    Been installing heat pumps for years and solar. Dual trade, full apprenticeship route for both. Supporting the mass takeover of octopus is devaluing the market for both trades. Its a wolf in sheep's clothing, trojan horse whatever you will. Now I just stick to servicing as I sit back and watch the race to the bottom unfold. Sad really.

    Mr octopus why can I not get a good tariff you have none for me. I cannot have a smart meter asci live rural but company's and yours will not give me a good tariff. Heat geek and Mr octopus and many others make huge amounts of money. Who is interested in giving cheap electric. Heat pumps cost huge amounts of money to run. Heat geek will blind you with its the installers have not calculated a Heat pump correctly . They use electricity big time.
