You're far from boring mate. I've been running my electrical business as a sole trader for 3 years now and the knowledge you're sharing is invaluable to people like me. Running a small business is HARD so how you manage to find the time to do these videos is beyond me.
Like you said, you're the only spark out there that is putting out actual useful business content.
Always look forward to your videos bud. 😊

Windows XP machines, RS232, floppy disks. Monitoring equipment. You have a great range.
I still note the business video you put out regarding annual salary- earnings. It was just when you handed in your notice. For me- keep doing what you’re doin’. The content is very valuable indeed.

thats some good bookkeeping tips there. its a lot simpler than the methoods i have been using prevoulsy i will have to adapt. you give off that hustle energy that i miss being a hybrid of paye and self employed. i will have too jump back being fully self employed but when circumstances allow it.

Nice and simple system you have there. I use a similar system, although the tax returns here in Iceland are much more complicated. In many ways it's easier as everyone here has a unique Government ID for individuals and businesses called a Kennitala. Any invoices have this Kennitala attached so when it comes to tax returns the Government already knows what you've spent and received so the electronic forms they send are already pre-populated. You just have to adjust for cash payments. However there are so many crazy exceptions and rules that even seasoned accountants can struggle. The bottom line is, the Icelandic Government would tax the air I breathe if they could

I moved to Xero a couple of years back and have never looked back, it makes the boring accoubts bit so much easier.
I don’t know were you are in your business career but I quite quickly realised I could make more money doing my job than it cost me to pay someone to do admin. So I’ve focused on being an engineer since and paid the cost if an admin person.

Nice video Jamie, I’m trying to get some tips as I’ve been a sole trader now for 4 and a half years but am now starting a small LTD with business partner. I’m trying to look at the best way to run it as we will have two other guys working for us too. I’m already fairly organised with what I do but I need to find more efficient ways of running the admin side of things as there will be a lot more to do.
Like your old school stamping system 🤣 have you ever heard of tradify? I hear that’s meant to be very good 😜

Maybe people watch you because you have something interesting to say! Hasn't HMRC made you go digital with the VAT we have had to use Xero but our accountant does it all for us. I put it on a spreadsheet under sheets subsistence, admin diesel, plant workwear tools, materials purchased, van costs and invoices out. Then have folders for each split into each of the VAT quarters and put a PDF of the invoice/receipt. Usually get an HMRC VAT repayment back in about a week. I just keep on top of it every couple of days.

    • @jamieblatantsparky

Yea I am just the bookkeeper the accountant does the actual vat and they are all digital , maybe I’ll have to slap a boring accountant bit in all my future videos
