I started my apprenticeship in a joinery factory in 1988, we had to slowly swap all the star delta machines over to DOL as they each failed, this meant they would not start on load. So if you got a massive plank of oak stuck in the planer, you would have to wind it out manually or swap two phases over to reverse it up. So yeah, the covers were off the controls and full of dust mostly.

I’ve seen this a few times often a DOL downgrade is easy but this is the result

Good to hear the wisdom that comes with experience, and not just the knowledge of how it should be in a brand new perfect world. Thanks for the content

That’s the one I would like to just potter around with but I just don’t have the space

Hi Jamie, so you are having a go at old sods now are you?🤣🤣Just so you know I'm still taking note of all your shenanigans, whoever rewired that motor before you hasn't got a clue, I'm assuming it must have been wired correctly in the first place. Regards from the old sod.

You know how it is ray, I can’t tell if it was originally done properly or of it was dragged out of a scrapyard and combined with some random switchgear and made to work badly , this stuff has seen so many owners you never know

I use to work on a lot of control and pump motors that date from the 1950s that were still in use . Lovely old oil pots and contactors . Spent time cleaning them up for annual maintenance and inspections. Good days . Now they have been all ripped out to new cheap Chinese crap

Yep the amount of stuff I have ripped out that I wish I had saved not realising I would want it all now as show prices is crazy , I did manage to get my hands on a good dash post for a video but it’s hard to find

Love this sort of stuff. You have to be pragmatic when working on this older gear, for older chaps. They have lived to a good age, around high risk machinery, because they aren't fcukwits wrapped in cotton wool!
You could encourage them towards a nice little VSD to tidy this up.
More offensive stuff is always good too! You are right.......some 'sparks' would run away from this and cry!!
