What are Locally made Hammered Coin Dies?
I am trying to figure out if I have an Edward III or Richard III. The outer text of mine is not the best. I would love to share and see what you think. Thanks for another great video.
Top marks for even asking this question - I did not find anyone else on CZcams who asks it. However - the question is not answered correctly. To get to the bottom of this matter one has to turn back the scholarly clock more than 100 years to Del Mar’s book - “A History of Monetary Crimes”. Essentially the Grocer’s Guild and the East India Company hooked up. Externally, EIC was exporting the circulating silver currency East, as silver bullion, to fund its trade. Meanwhile the Grocer’s Guild was pushing the English population away from traditional markets - where trade was done paid and quit in coin - at cheap prices. As silver coinage dried up so did traditional markets. Instead elite Guild members wanted people buying things on credit at shops - thus raking in profits - because they charged expensive prices. My paper “Maria Graham and the Problem of Small Change” should be easy enough to find on the web and gets into all the nitty gritty - about both what actually happened - and also, who is spreading the modern incorrect accounts.
НЕ ПОКАЗЫВАЙ МОНЕТЫ В ПЛОХОМ СОСТОЯНИИ!!!
Really enjoy your videos. Will you be making more? Thanks.
The brass coin is a 'spade guinea, used for gambling. i have 3 in my collection from the 1700's.

Anyone know how much these are worth???Thanks
Thank you for this video on Last Catholic Queen of England /Can you make one on Mary Queen of Scots too as well as their contemporaries in Europe as the study of Catholic coins is only of interest to me personally as it describes Spiritual Journey of Christian Values and Morality something totally lost here in UK in 2024 Also your video Test was too difficult for a beginner/Could you make Introduction Test video Please? Thank you
27/46 The Spiritual Journey of Anglo Saxons should be title of this Wonderful video which Hope will be first of many tracing this WISE Intellectual Spiritual journey out of darkness and folly /Unreason of human idolatrous and Self centred /serpent /centaur self into His Pure Infinitely Reasonable Supernatural Transcendent Glorious Saving Health Psalm 67 /2 This sentence from psalms of Wise King David was once recited before start of All Parliamentary Sessions but today in Lawless Idolatrous UK since 1960s with abolition of Christian Moral Law is NOW in 2024 as I Write this completely without any meaning if And assuming it still continues to be recited Researching King Burgred King of Mercia and brother in law of King Alfred? Driven out of his kingdom by Vikings 874 passed away to his Eternal Crown in 888 AD and buried in ROME brought me to this Super Video and cannot Thank you enough Tony for bringing this Truly Eternally Enlightened Era of English History to life with this study of coins they left behind some with Bishops names on them as early part of the video claims Hope Anna Gannon video will promote her work also
Solid video
Hey, I really like your Coin Inventory! Is there any chance to share the Spreadsheet with me?
I'm from Chile btw.
I have this coin and lots more like it
Welcome to the JC club :) I posted my two I own, and similar condition.
When are we getting more videos?
These appear to be poured, not struck
This coin can save me from everything I need to pay and then some! Just wish I could find one of these just laying around like that! Lol! Yeah right!
Why are the Anglo Saxons one better than the Vikings? Because they had Vii Kings. Cheers from Mercia
I thought Marks were German.
Your video is great, thank you! I purchased a coin that indicates it as either Late Edward I or II. I am unable to identify it. Is there a email I can send images to or another way I can get them to you to help me identify them? Thank you.
Beautiful coin, shame its so expensive it can’t even make its way into my bucket list.
I no someone who’s got one from the river
Did you know, that Charles 11 faced the opposite direction because he would not face the same way as Oliver Cromwell, because he had his farther beheaded. This practise has continued ever since on all our coinage.
Enjoyed looking at your coins. You must be proud to own them. I liked your history lesson. Thanks for sharing.
Nice, I’d like one someday…it’ll have to be a bucket lister.
How many men created the coins? Was it one man working 10 hours a day? Was it 3 men each working 8 hour shifts? Or was it something else? Ignoramus here.
Hello my name is Alicia Alexander and I believe I have a hammered coin but haven't been able to figure out what exactly it is! Maybe you could help me with that!
Where has this channel gone?!! Come back!
i actually recently Got myself a Charles I Shilling! It's beautiful and i got it at an Amazing price, especially for here in Canada :)
Way too much math.
Great video made even better because you cited your sources! Thank you, Hammered Corner!
I attended the London coin show ( near the British Muesem) last Sept.2023. I did not see any early Anglo-Saxon coins at all . The must be very rare!
I'm from Dallas,TX U.S.
Unfortunately, early Anglo-Saxon coins of Britain tend to be very expensive with the gold pieces running in the thousands of dollars (U.S.) . I only own one Northumbria sceant made of copper minted in the 800s.I love to collect British coins but the Anglo-Saxon coins are just to expensive!
Is this the coin that came up missing while in the possession of the museum/agency Clegg turned the coin into as required? Did he get the coin back or was he paid what it was worth? If not, I find the museum or person/persons who did this as the lower than the dirt! Clegg is such a nice guy I would hate to see him get screwed.
Another great video
How do I know what king it is
How do I know it’s Edward III
I'd like to compare cost of living during medieval times and now?
Great video...and channel! But, you have to tell me, where can i get one of those coin storage boxes 😁
New to ancient/ midevil coins . This channel is excellent!!! Thank you for helping beginners in this area of collecting!!
Всё что говорили про Ричарда третьего всё обман, хороший был король!
I have two hammered coins if you want.
In the Lettering section of the video I am still a bit confused. It says to look out for those lettering differences but I don’t know what lettering corresponds to Ed I,II, or III.
it looks corio is more rich in gold than the others that look copper, LIKE
Hey lukeboy
Great video very informative. I’m a Detectorist and was lucky enough to find one in Essex at the weekend on a dig 🤠

Very informative. Obviously a man very knowledgeable on the subject.
I have polished almost all my silver coins too much, silver also often has thick deposits here in my country, but my gold coins have only been cleaned with distilled water. (all excavated finds in clay soil) To be honest, I prefer a shiny coin than a thick layer tax on it, I'm not selling anything anyway.
I've got a reproduced coin of Henry the 8th groat and Queen Elizabeth the 1st sixpence from Westair which I think i brought from Tamworth castle
Julius Caesar was never actually proclaimed an emperor or took that title.
