Congratulations. I soloed in a Champ in August 1956. It was great.
back when CRAFTMAN was craftsman.. i have the very same vise
It’s a really nice vise! My son in law has this vise now and I admire it anytime I see it.
Does anyone have the spec's on the capacitor used in these?
You might try contacting Lincoln. They are a pretty good company when it comes to supporting their products.
@@shopdoc I did they said didn't have the info.
@@morenothing4u Bummer! Msaybe someone will chime in and provide that info.
Score!
For sure. I am impressed with how well this little tractor performs everyday. Watch the restoration....it's amazing!
This helped me fix my truck! Thanks!
Thanks Alex!
That’s a beautiful truck!
Thanks! Need to take you for a ride sometime!
I have two 180 amp Lincoln's. I found one at a garage sale for $15.00 and the other I was driving down the road and saw it sitting on the curb for garbage pickup. Both went home with me and after new power and lead cables they run beautifully. They will still be working great long after i'm gone. No inverter welder will be working for 75 years.
Wow! Great deal! Inverters rely on computers.......so yeah, the inverters will not work that long. I have a 20 yr old car that the computer has malfunctioned on.
Enjoyed the watch. Happy Fathers Day. 👍🏽🤠 06/16/24
Hey thank you! Happy Fathers Day to all the fathers out there! Thanks for watching.
Where did you get your clover white paint from? Did you also clear coat your 550? I'm in the process of painting my 1365. I'm using Ag Specialty paints and hardener.
I believe I bought the paint online from an AGCO dealer. Single stage paint so no clear coat. I used the Vansickle hardner for this tank and it did fine.
😮
I will be using this airplane the first week of July to knock out the Sport pilot certificate. Only flew in one once for 30 min. Seems like a great plane, plenty of power, great climb ... looking foward to it.
You will really love it! Lots of power to weight and very responsive handling.
I got one of these with wheels mine wheels are a little different
"Now, I'm touching the nut ... I should just go inch a hair"
Здравствуйте, подскажите можно спилить нижний выступ где они крепятся к столу?, а то они слишком выступают от стола, хочу разместить их поглубже
my first ride in an airplane was in an Aeronca Champ. A wooden and canvas two seater (one behind the other). It belonged to Mr. Thomas Anderson, a farmer who used it to visit his different acreages. He had a grass strip behind the barns on his home place. He had me hold my feet on the brake pedals while he propped the engine. Once started, he ran around the wing strut, jumped in, signaled me to let go of the pedals, taxied out of the hanger and onto the grass strip. It didn't take long for the Champ to jump into the air and we were off and flying. It was a thrill that still lives in my memory today.
That’s such a cool memory…thanks for sharing it. My plan is to start back in the Champ in 4-6 weeks once we get the crops in.
My dad owned one in the 1960s. He flew out of and kept it at Kobelt Airport in NY. Good memories.
Nice! I should be starting back up in the Champ in the next 4-6 weeks once the crop is in. Looking forward to it.
The holes on the feet are not from the manufacturer.
I have an Acme 103 lbs stamped on the side. I would never round off the edges. They are crisp for a reason.
Sharp edges chip and they also create stress in your work that become prone to fractures. The crisp edges are there because the manufacturers left it to the Smith to dress their edges according to their preferences. You like sharp edges which is your preference. I like a slightly rounded edge myself. Thanks for the info on the feet I was unaware.
Hi Chris, Just starting my own restoration on a Craftsman 5158. It appears to be almost identical to the Reed 204. I found that one side of the factory split nut was broken in two. Do you happen to know where I can order a replacement part or find one so I can continue the restoration? Thanks for any help!
The older and smaller version of the weld n power 150 those are suppose to be engine mounts my 150 was stolen spare parts might be very few and very hard to come by
Too bad it was stolen. These are pretty neat and you can find them at decent prices a lot of the time. Thanks for commenting.
I have an Lincoln electric ac-225 glm. Used it a few times but never worked great. So i took it apart and found 2 wires at the switch loose but nuts was not back off just loose, but when i went to reinstall the cover. Found a loose wire with a eye let connector on it. It comes off the transformer ( windings). It's a hot wire when it is plugged in. Short wire so it can't go more than the switch area. Please any help, driving me crazy.Thank you.
You should have a wiring schematic inside your unit, that will tell how it should be wired. If yours doesn’t have the schematic then go to the Lincoln website and you can find it online.
@@shopdoc wiring diagram is a little fuzzy. Lincoln electric only sent me owners manual. Thanks away
@@roberteast4160 Google the following: Lincoln AC 225 wiring diagram. You should find everything you need
Nicely done. What do you think the restored vice might sell for?
Reconditioned you should be able to get $150-200 in my area of Indiana. Unfortunately these old American vises are very under appreciated and under valued.
Not really what I'd call a restoration, more like a maintenance and repaint.
I wouldn’t disagree……even a refresh would work.
The gold edition was for the company's 50th anniversary.
So there was a gold edition! Cool neat to know that info. Thank you!
Yeah, I know the 67 had a 304 v8, now I learn that my 62 may have had the smaller I think the 266...not sure! Both had serious power...I remember spinning tires burning tire rubber with 62. The 67's drive train wasn't a tire spinner but rember getting it stuck digged in on a beach on Acapesket Beach Cape Cod where I grew up from 1955.... left there in 2006.
Cool memories! My 61 has the 266V8.
Yes, the 67 International, a 3/4 ton four wheel drive, may be the most fun vehicle I've had! Drove it on Truro sand dunes on Cape Cod also power lines on the Cape in mid 1970's The 62 I drove was short in time but I found the Internations where solidly built...but they were never recognized for such until recent time.....
Great to hear your experience with them! I had a 52 and a 57 before this one, so the 61 seems new……almost.
At around 4:50 mark you commented on the screw thread. It is a buttress thread which was common/standard on Athol/Starretts.
Hey dad it’s your favorite child😁
I really hope you hit the like button using my own login.
She's a beauty...great find..
Thanks!
Nice old truck 😅
These Internationals are hard to find. I think for the most part you got a really good one! The timing could be off. Definitely need to replace or rebuild the carb. Idled very nice though. No top end clatter.
Yep the timing was off and not sure about carb yet. Runs really good now except the initial depressing of the gas pedal…..falls on its face then recovers. Accelerator pumps seems to be working fine……so not sure what adjustment I need to do yet? Researching it. Thanks!
Just started a clean up on my grandfather’s Yost vice I’ve neglected for some thirty years now , that vice looks so much like the one you restored and is probably about as old
I’ll have a Yost vise restoration in the future. They are great vises and a very historic American company!
I’d rather daily drive that than a new truck. Guessing it didn’t cost as much either. Thinking you should start by advancing the timing.
Good call the timing is exactly what I needed to adjust. Still need to adjust the carb but runs much stronger after adjusting timing!
Timing mark on harmonic balancer can be off by quite a lot. Sun visor was heavy crate paper covered with vinyl seat material an and sewn together like a mitten.
Very good information! Thanks!
Part IH and part AMC.Good looking truck.
Cool! What part is AMC? I keep finding IH on everything but no AMC yet?
That three plug outlet is aftermarket. Back in the day you could buy them from Radio Shack. Nice find!! 😊
Cool thanks for the info!
The old binder has been restored.
Well some cosmetic restoration but I’m repairing quite a bit. Just redid the tank and fuel lines. Replacing shocks and front leaf springs and bushings. Also plan on rewiring entire truck. Maybe more but so far that’s on the list.
As an old "wrench turn'er" I'd suggest you check the initial timing, then make sure the vacuum advance is working. Most likely the carb acceleration pump is not working. (bad diaghram or clogged port). I'd also check the numbers on the carb and confirm it is about the correct size for that engine. After running a couple tank full's of fuel thru it I'd install a new fuel filter and maybe open up the carb for a look or cleaning. I'm 64 now and did alot of wrenching (back in the days) on dad's 1965 Chevy C 10's. Hope you keep her on the road and gets lots of driving enjoyment.
Timing was off some and the float bowl was overflowing. I adjusted both and it runs much better but still falls on its face when I hit the accelerator. So maybe the pumps not working?
@@shopdoc Yes, with the engine off, remove the air cleaner and look down the inside of the carb., push open the throttle and you should see the accelerator pump squirt a stream of fuel, this is what overcomes the "bog" at most all points of quicker acceleration. I'd also suck on the hose going to the distributor to hear/feel that the vacuum advance is working, and no vacuum hose leak. I would also pull the cap and rotor and "lube" the vacuum advance weights/ springs pivot points. Me being "old school", I'd rum some Marvel Mystery oil thru the gas tank and also in the engine oil to help clean up the internals. Go ahead and put some 70 mph highway miles on her, she'll likely run stronger afterwards.
@@billycarpenter4740 great info! I will do all of those things! Thank you!
@@shopdoc You're very welcome. An hour under the hood and you'll solve your problem, and fine tune many things .
Had a 62 and 67 with I think 304's. The 62 needed and got new hydrolic lifters. Huge torque engines
Just bought one of these have a question. Had some thick pink fluid leaking from bottom of tractor from hole that leads to bolted pan under tractor. Any idea?
czcams.com/video/G-2V9otNPsk/video.htmlsi=PqxbiFc2JshhZVGK You might try this video. You may be describing something similar to what my friend had. His was a hydrotrans leak at the hydraulic pump.
Thanks!! I looked at this video earlier but did not see the original leak. I’m gonna remove that plate today to see where it is leaking from.
Ok took plate off and found half of a ring. Any ideas where to purchase where it could have come from and what’s involved to fix. I’m sure I may have to follow the video but any ideas of location would be awesome!!
Would like to send pic but not sure how to attach here.
Nice old truck. Congratulations.
Thanks! I'm having a lot of fun working on it. Plenty more videos coming. Just redid the fuel tank and fuel lines and currently am replacing the front suspension.
nice look awesome i have 2 of these units too
Two of them!!!! Super nice! These are soooo under rated! Great welders!
I really like your approach and willingness to share. Great work and thanks. I recently acquired a Reed 104R that I'm appreciating.
Thank you, very kind of you to say. I’ve got a few more vises in the works right now. I feel like the Reed is the best vise ever made but there are others up there with them such as Athol.
What gauge thickness was the band saw? Looking to create some in silver. Thanks! Great work!
Man I have no idea, I’m sorry it’s just been too long ago. I’d guess 10ga
my trenton has the following numbers 129 A22223. Can anyone tell me anything off that? wondering if the 129 is the pounds?
Yes I believe the weight is 129lbs. The other numbers are its serial number so someone can likely date it.
Have you ever used Kroil penetrating oil?
I have not really, I have seen it but it’s so expensive. If I were doing this vise again today I believe I’d soak it in Evaporust for a week. I’ve been having nice results with it. Kroil might very well do the trick as well!
@@shopdoc I see a 16 oz can is about $32. This is commonly used my car mechanics. It is remarkably effective. I have used it on rusted metal pipes, and car parts. Usually, 5 to 10 minutes is enough time for penetration. For the most bound parts, 24 hours is sufficient. Just a little bit is all that is needed.
@@sloprun that's a good point and it might have saved me several hours of labor!!!
It is not cast. It is forged steel
Yes it is. Thank you for pointing that very important fact out! The fact that it is steel makes it much stronger than an equivalent cast iron would be.
