- Still working thru this series of vise restorations. This is the Columbian vise and it's a beauty! I gave this vise away during an Ironman event we had at my shop for the church. A good friend of mine was the blessed winner of this vintage vise.

Thank you for leaving the character of the vise and not painting. Good looking vise in its "natural" oiled state.
Thanks! It was nicely preserved by a simple cleaning and oil finish. Thanks for watching!
Excellent work Chris. That will make a nice gift.
Daniel seems to like it very much! Thanks!
One of my favorite features of the Columbians is the bronze washer in front of the meatball. Gives a great surface for wear
Yes! Pretty cool really!
That's a beaut. I'm no metal-worker so can you explain why you used heat and pounding to straighten the pivot handle? I watch another channel where a Dake hydraulic press would have been put into play for that. Is one method better/stronger than the other?
The heat makes straightening the steel easier and puts much less stress into the metal and reducing the chance of breaking the handle. Cold bending is rarely a better method but sometimes there are reasons not to introduce heat into a part.
I left you a comment on the Charles Parker you restored 4 months ago. I am needing info on the handle tension brass puck, spring and retaining screw. I am restoring a 973 1/2 and it is missing all the parts to the tension part of the handle. Ive watched all your restoration videos and you've replaced thise parts many times.
That brass puck is just about 1/16in thick. The spring just needs to fit in the hole and you can always cut it down. The set screw on my last one was 5/16in (may not be correct for you model) but can’t remember the thread count so you need to try a few small bolts until you get it right. Everything can be purchased at a good hardware store.
Thanks for the info.
In the beginning mounted to the table is that the athol 324.5? If so how have you liked using it?
Yes that’s the Athol! Fantastic vise! I really do love it!
