- So I was visiting my daughter and Son in law who live in Kansas and found this old IHC truck on Marketplace so I decided to take a look! Follow me along as we go look at this old corn binder!

She's a beauty...great find..
Thanks!
As an old "wrench turn'er" I'd suggest you check the initial timing, then make sure the vacuum advance is working. Most likely the carb acceleration pump is not working. (bad diaghram or clogged port). I'd also check the numbers on the carb and confirm it is about the correct size for that engine. After running a couple tank full's of fuel thru it I'd install a new fuel filter and maybe open up the carb for a look or cleaning. I'm 64 now and did alot of wrenching (back in the days) on dad's 1965 Chevy C 10's. Hope you keep her on the road and gets lots of driving enjoyment.
Timing was off some and the float bowl was overflowing. I adjusted both and it runs much better but still falls on its face when I hit the accelerator. So maybe the pumps not working?
@@shopdoc Yes, with the engine off, remove the air cleaner and look down the inside of the carb., push open the throttle and you should see the accelerator pump squirt a stream of fuel, this is what overcomes the "bog" at most all points of quicker acceleration. I'd also suck on the hose going to the distributor to hear/feel that the vacuum advance is working, and no vacuum hose leak. I would also pull the cap and rotor and "lube" the vacuum advance weights/ springs pivot points. Me being "old school", I'd rum some Marvel Mystery oil thru the gas tank and also in the engine oil to help clean up the internals. Go ahead and put some 70 mph highway miles on her, she'll likely run stronger afterwards.
@@billycarpenter4740 great info! I will do all of those things! Thank you!
@@shopdoc You're very welcome. An hour under the hood and you'll solve your problem, and fine tune many things .
Had a 62 and 67 with I think 304's. The 62 needed and got new hydrolic lifters. Huge torque engines
Hey dad it’s your favorite child😁
I really hope you hit the like button using my own login.
Nice old truck 😅
Nice old truck. Congratulations.
Thanks! I'm having a lot of fun working on it. Plenty more videos coming. Just redid the fuel tank and fuel lines and currently am replacing the front suspension.
That three plug outlet is aftermarket. Back in the day you could buy them from Radio Shack. Nice find!! 😊
Cool thanks for the info!
Yes, the 67 International, a 3/4 ton four wheel drive, may be the most fun vehicle I've had! Drove it on Truro sand dunes on Cape Cod also power lines on the Cape in mid 1970's The 62 I drove was short in time but I found the Internations where solidly built...but they were never recognized for such until recent time.....
Great to hear your experience with them! I had a 52 and a 57 before this one, so the 61 seems new……almost.
Timing mark on harmonic balancer can be off by quite a lot. Sun visor was heavy crate paper covered with vinyl seat material an and sewn together like a mitten.
Very good information! Thanks!
Yeah, I know the 67 had a 304 v8, now I learn that my 62 may have had the smaller I think the 266...not sure! Both had serious power...I remember spinning tires burning tire rubber with 62. The 67's drive train wasn't a tire spinner but rember getting it stuck digged in on a beach on Acapesket Beach Cape Cod where I grew up from 1955.... left there in 2006.
Cool memories! My 61 has the 266V8.
Part IH and part AMC.Good looking truck.
Cool! What part is AMC? I keep finding IH on everything but no AMC yet?
These Internationals are hard to find. I think for the most part you got a really good one! The timing could be off. Definitely need to replace or rebuild the carb. Idled very nice though. No top end clatter.
Yep the timing was off and not sure about carb yet. Runs really good now except the initial depressing of the gas pedal…..falls on its face then recovers. Accelerator pumps seems to be working fine……so not sure what adjustment I need to do yet? Researching it. Thanks!
The gold edition was for the company's 50th anniversary.
So there was a gold edition! Cool neat to know that info. Thank you!
I’d rather daily drive that than a new truck. Guessing it didn’t cost as much either.
Thinking you should start by advancing the timing.
Good call the timing is exactly what I needed to adjust. Still need to adjust the carb but runs much stronger after adjusting timing!
The old binder has been restored.
Well some cosmetic restoration but I’m repairing quite a bit. Just redid the tank and fuel lines. Replacing shocks and front leaf springs and bushings. Also plan on rewiring entire truck. Maybe more but so far that’s on the list.
