  • I bought this old Lincoln welder for a great price. Now I need to clean it and get it looking great again and then sell it! We actually do a clear coat on this old welder. "Stick" around as I think you will love it!

      Very nice! They are a lot of welder in a pretty small package!

    Those are the most practical welders ever made (for anything less than metal build-up or air/arc carbon gauging). Nice job, Chris!

    Great video! I love the restoration of a simple machine that most would never consider.

      This was a nice little welder and honestly I couldn’t tell the difference between this one and my Idealarc when welding! Great welders for cheap!

    Nice job! I bought me an old buzz box Lincoln for $50. I’d love to do what you did here and totally rejuvenate the old gal.

      They are totally worth it! I have a very high regard for these old welders for a good reason.........they just weld beautifully and they are bullet proof!

    I was told to shut the switch off before changing settings so you don’t burn the contacts!

      Unnecessary according to instructions and my experience. Just don’t strike an arc while changing your settings. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for sharing. I have this welder and the polarity selector switch is very hard to move. Any advice on how to free it up without completely removing the top shelf (choke and rectifier)?

    • @shopdoc
      @shopdoc  Před rokem

      If you loosen the top back shelf you can apply some dielectric grease to the terminals. It made a huge difference with mine. Mine was so hard to switch I thought I might break it. Lubed it and it switches like butter!

    Excellent video! I just bought a Lincoln welder just like that one, but it looks terrible. The cooling fan does not work, it spins freely but just hums trying to spin. I am going to replace it with a flat, square cooling fan for less than $25. Lincoln wants $100. I was wondering if the cooling fan should blow air up or down?

      I honestly cannot remember now. I would research it a bit. It may not be that critical as long as air is moving.

    Hey there, I own the 225 ac version , I didn't know they make ac/dc on this type. If I have to choose which one would you recommend? I am a DIYer. Not a pro.

    • @shopdoc
      @shopdoc  Před 4 měsíci

      The ac/dc version is better. DC welds much smoother and better arc quality and allows you a greater range of different types of welding you can do and welding rods you can use.

      I had an old A C that I bought 1992. It was old then. I went searching for another when the selector switch broke. I lucked across an AC/DC unit with rotten leads for $100. Ooohhh it is so much better! I work mostly 7018 with positive ground, and my skill has way improved. My welds almost look like actual welds instead of something off the floor of the chicken coop.

    I have a Lincoln ac dc arc welder. The knobs turn very hard. Will dielectric grease help it u think?

    • @shopdoc
      @shopdoc  Před 4 měsíci

      Yes you’ll need to open it up from the back and then lightly clean the contact point on the back side of the dial with some scotch brite or steel wool then use dielectric grease and you’ll be shocked how well it’ll turn!

    I have an Lincoln electric ac-225 glm. Used it a few times but never worked great. So i took it apart and found 2 wires at the switch loose but nuts was not back off just loose, but when i went to reinstall the cover. Found a loose wire with a eye let connector on it. It comes off the transformer ( windings). It's a hot wire when it is plugged in. Short wire so it can't go more than the switch area. Please any help, driving me crazy.Thank you.

      You should have a wiring schematic inside your unit, that will tell how it should be wired. If yours doesn’t have the schematic then go to the Lincoln website and you can find it online.
