Pine Crinkle Cut Bowl - Wood turning
A very unique bowl made from scrap materials! It reminds me of a crinkle cut potato.
I originally glued up this blank a few years ago, the totally forgot about it until I had a good clean in my shed.
The finished bowl measures 240mm x 69mm (9 1/2" x 2 3/4")
Thank you for watching.

Mahogany Bowl from an Old Door - Wood turning
Looks great! Was the glue dry?!😁
Very nice and a great idea. Could the pine with glue be use for food if we put food oil finish? Thank you and congratulations
Cool concept. Now that you’ve done it in pine, I’m betting that another using a harder wood would be stunning. I can just imagine walnut. Whewie! Well done!
Experimenting with pine does open the door for another wood… hmmm 🤔 definitely one idea to follow up with. Thanks 👍
I like your videos,, thanks
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching 👍
Great design! Nice job!
Thank you 😎👍
Nice use of tailstock support. When you pulled it away I actually held my breath as you turned down the center!!! Nice job!!! AND, I love the crinkle cut.
I’ve learned the hard way when I didn’t use the tailstock. Glad that it wasn’t just me holding my breath 🤣👍
That was unique, I like it.
Many thanks 👍😎
Don't you love finding things you forgot about?!?!?! I found an "experiment" from serveral years ago (an unfinished poplar and cherry martini glass) that I didn't know what to do with at the time. It is now finished, but the type of wood I used...ugly. I know what I did wrong and now want to revisit my experiment. HERE'S TO CLEANING OUT YOUR SHOP!!!
The joy of experimenting and learning. Thanks for watching 👍
That turned out smashing there buddy well done.
Much appreciated. Thank you 👍
Big fan of Shou sugi ban and this turned out really nicely. I know wood can warp and glue give out when heated, so it is an art to give it a quick pass many times so as to not over heat any one area. Nice to see and something I will try..thank you for sharing.
Hope you have success with it. Thanks for watching 👍
Been looking at your channel and inspired - thank you! My son is a 2nd year Joiner apprentice so Im hoping he can bring the useful off cuts home. New to turning and a bit jaded by green wood turnings that soon split/crack. I think this is the way forward for me. I have used veneers for scrollsaw projects but this is a great idea too. Great tip to use the starbond to toughen up the mortice area too. Interested to find out where to get the labelled insert - another very useful thing.
Always happy to share ideas. I have a laser engraver, so I make the inserts myself. They really do help finish off the project. 😎👍
Great bowl!! One comment...I sure hope you are wearing really good respiratory protection. That dust will cause some serious hea!th problems down the roaf.
100% agree. I treated myself to a powered respirator last year. Not the cheapest option, but top quality and works well with glasses. Thanks for watching 👍
Nicely done
Thank you! Cheers!
Très beau travail !
Merci beaucoup
That wood is absolutely beautiful! I can't believe someone covered it with varnish 😢
Me neither. It really shines now. Thanks for watching 😎
Great video. How long did it take for the glue to set, as with my luck, it would have come apart at the seams.
I usually leave the glue 48 hours, often longer. Thank for watching 👍
Beautiful piece sir have a great weekend ✌️
Thanks, you too! 😎👍
👍👍👍
😎👍
Nice bowl. Did you consider grain when you originally cut the bowl? I'd like to hear your thoughts on that.
Yes I wanted a diagonal cut, but i didn’t want to stick side grain to side grain. I guess I just went with the curvature of the grain. Plenty of good quality glue and firm clamps also helped. Thanks for watching 👍
I like the veneer idea you should do a bowl with loads of veneers cut into it 😉
I’ve just bought loads of green and red veneer, some hopefully there will be many more bowls to follow. Thanks for watching 👍
Simply gorgeous!
Thank you! 😊
The green...perfect choice. Don't you just love that chatoyance?
Thank you. The added bonus of creating something beautiful from scrap just adds to the experience. Thanks for watching 👍
Great bowl. If you have another piece of that door frame, I would love to see you try a blue stripe, or more than one blue. Thanks again for the videos. 😎
Sounds like a plan. I’ve already glued up one with an oak insert and green veneer, it should be ready for CZcams soon. I’ve also bought some red veneer too 😎👍
Nice looking bowl
Thank you! Cheers!
Gorgeous! Love it!
Thank you! 😊
It's a beautiful little bowl. Love the grain and the contrasting stripe.
Thank you very much! The stripe really elevates it.
Great video. What size bowl blank do you use?
The finished bowl was 175mm x 75mm, so roughly 7x3 inches. Thanks for watching
Really nice looking bowl, simple and elegant.
Thank you! Cheers! 👍👍
Beautiful piece, thanks for sharing
Thank you. Keeping it simple really worked this time. 👍
I love the racing stripe! And, this week, WAX ON/WAX OFF! I learn something from every one of your videos. Thank you!
Delighted that you like them! ❤👍
Great bowl. The added stripe is great. I love that it isn’t in line nor 90* to the grain.
Yes I deliberately gave the stripe an angle across the grain. I'm very pleased with how it turned out. 😀👍
brilliant, where do you get your bowl blanks, because i have just gotten into turning and sourcing material to turn is quite difficult
Yandles www.yandles.co.uk/ or Toolsandtimber www.toolsandtimber.co.uk/ are both of very good quality. I tend to use Toolsandtimber more, as I only live 30 minutes from the store, so I can hand pick the blanks.
Lovely bowl mate
I'm glad you like it. Thanks for watching 👍
Great contrast and lovely finish 👍🏻 Thank you
Many thanks!
Amazing how steong this glue is
Yes, I've tried other brands, but Gorilla Glue has never let me down.
English yew has such beautiful colors and grain!
It also cuts like butter! Yew is amazing to work with.
@@RDMWoodturning maybe I’ll be able to get some one of these days
Excellent job! I will have to try this out when I get my lathe working. I have a bunch of 2x4 scraps to practice on
Good luck. Go for it!👍

Thank yew for watching 👍🤣
I love the satin finish!

Thanks 👍

That looks amazing.
Thank yew very much ❤👍😀
The colors and grain are amazing! I kept seeing the heads of long beaked purple birds adorning your fantastic bowl! 💜 So beautiful!
Thank yew so much. Yew just has so much character! ❤👍
Nice blank and shape , Lovely sheen.
Much appreciated. Thank yew! 👍
stunning
Thank yew very much ❤👍
It's awesome that you have access to Yew. I live in the pacific northwest part of North America, and we don't have Yew trees here. Beautiful bowl skillfully made. Thanks for the videos. 😎
Lots of pacific yew if you know where to look. Timber companies leave it lay.
@@darrenoneil2455 Thanks, I did not know that. Now it's going to drive me crazy. 😎
Hope that you find some Yew soon. Thanks for watching 👍
