When I joined the US Navy we were still in dungarees, a WWI working uniform since phased out in about 2004. The enlisted dress uniforms are virtually unchanged from over 100 years ago although not continuous, there were some failed attempts at unifying all ranks under a suit and tie design in the '70s, but returned to traditional dress in the '80s.

I agree with the comments about Lower Decks being an unreliable-narrator retelling, especially if Mariner is doing it. I'd offer two other possibilities: The show will end with a "These Are The Voyages" reveal that these were all holodeck retellings, or... We find out that these events were "tweaked" by Q for his own amusement, and so that people won't believe it was real.

More correctly, why did it take Voyager that long anyway? The original series Enterprise managed to get to the center of the galaxy quickly enough, and we know they tried to break through the edge of it at least once. Also Earth is located squarely between the Alpha and Beta Quadrants (for some reason), and they seem to be able to go anywhere in either of those quadrants pretty quicky, too. The galaxy being so big it would take half a dozen decades+ to span seemed to really only crop up in Voyager...

I always thought of Voyager in a similar way. What we see in that show is the logs of the ship, not what actually happened. This may not be canon or true but it makes sense and speaks to me.

I think this is the correct take. It has the spirit of Trek, but it's just wackier and wilder for the sake of comedy. It's like how Klingons exaggerate their war stories.

They didn’t know where the wormhole was exactly, they were flung from their quadrant to the delta and they didn’t get a chance to star the charts for one, and the wormhole lead to the gamma quadrant not the delta. A dyson sphere that was discovered later on in another area is what led to the delta quadrant and that was not in Bajor, it was a lot further from there.

At the time the dominion was a threat and if things got serious closing the wormhole was an option. There was a realistic chance the wormhole wouldn't be there when they got there.

Because it's a comedy, Lower Decks is actually MORE able to acknowledge the ridiculous aspects of Star Trek canon than other Star Trek shows are, and it does this all the time. So maybe it's all the other shows that are not canon, and the Star Trek universe is "really" like Lower Decks.

My view is there are two realities - the cartoon one and the live action one. Everything that happens in the live action-verse happens in a funnier way in the toon-verse. Everything that happens in the toon-verse happens in a less silly way in the live action verse.

I would have loved to see a new class of starfleet ship based on the flyer with slipstream drives installed instead of warp since we know the flyer can travel safely in slipstream (even if voyager cant.)

It seems a bit rich to call the frequency of comedic events statistically unlikely given the equally unlikely sequences of events making up most ST episodes.

Given how much CBS asserted that the animated show was canon prior to release, I assumed that its the most canon show, and that the canonisity of every over event in the franchise, both legancy and present, would be in flux until specifically cemented via direct reference in lower decks. 🤔

I wonder if Shaxs' personality might, in part, be akin to the holodeck character/interface/thought-simulation of Dr. Brahms in "The Booby Trap"? Would that make all of 'Lower Decks' a type of Star Trek level AI, used like many people use what we have today, producing a 2-Dimensional, non-interactive art-filtered experience depicting otherwise canonical events, or what may be called in-universe, "events that are relatively accurate within a scant few plausibility units?"

im always in for some good old classic designs. sadly some like the Missouri or Yamato from Klingon Academy or the Klingon D5 from starfleet command have nearby no lore.
