- Helldivers 2 has been a fantastic game that recently emerged from seemingly nowhere and brought with it a satirical and commentary-laced universe in which to create a sandbox to destroy the enemies of Super Earth and deliver Democracy against its foes; the Automatons and Bug like Terminids. Let's take a look at the lore of the setting, what little there is of it!
This Video is for critical purposes with commentary.
Helldivers, Helldivers 2 and all associated trade marks and logos are developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 5 and Windows. This Video is for critical and parody purposes with commentary. - Hry
In summary, this is what happens when 1984 meets Ender's Game and has babies.
Spot on
You've been a great producer of videos but I detected some sympathy for the enemy in this work. I'm sorry, but I will have to report you for sedition. Know that this is for your own good as well as for ours.
Who are you talking about?

@@NoName-sb9tpThe sound made by *redacted* never existing after committing an act of sedition by means of video broadcast.
I love "Managed Democracy" as a turn of phrase. It tells you so much about their society in so compact a package.
Do not question why Super Earth needs ICBMs on every single planet...
And here I kept expecting you to ask, "Would you like to know more?"
The contract reads like any common EULA.
And when you boot up the game pretends to be one too.
Remember the Creeeeeeeek!
the trees speak beep boop
We tried so hard to retake it multiple times and now its down to 0.0300% last i checked.
For the record, I would have joined your patreon just for that opening alliteration alone.
Drop pods being non-lethal... yeah, right.
Also I remember one point in the original Helldivers trailer where a whole squad got crushed under their own evac shuttle... says it all really.
I still find it massively ironic, that my birthday is also on the same day as the top holiday in the game's lore.
We fight and die for Democracy.
For Democracy! Managed Democracy! Would you like to know more?
Service guarantees citizenship…
in Super Earth.

Wait so I get the Verhoven references but the AI in charge of democracy gives me Paranoia RPGs vibes too
With a chunk of Orwell's 1984 in there too for flavour
Please report for compulsory re-education friend citizen.

Friend computer for president
god dammit, Ric you really should make a cultural Index about WarFrame. :D
Aside from killing the Bugs/Mechas......"Are we the baddies?" 😅
Why do I get the feeling the bots are what's left of Nato and the Asian axis...
Report to freedom camp.
@@Namelesswhirl .......Oh, Sweet F*cking Liberty.........😂
Someone has not drunk their liber-tea
Honestly, this just feels like Starship Troopers but worse, including the bugs (both with and without a capitol B.)
I would REALLY like to see you do a Cultural Index on the universe of Starship Troopers, both the movies and the animated series.
Book first, then movies, then games
@@Heatx79 And what about cartoons/anime?
This sure does take a jab at US politics XD nice video!
Definitely. This is even more true in light of the TikTok Ban recently passed by the House and being debated in the Senate.
Been awhile since you did a Cultural Index video!
The Astartes called, they want the Imperialis back
Don't do that, you'll let in the Dune fans. And then comes the Foundation fans and everything gets irritating quick.
American capitalized fascism mixed with swedish governments
The devs are a swedish company with a decent number of Americans. But also a lot of this was lifted from Warhammer and Starship troopers which tracks.
What the hell is “capitalized fascism?” Thats an oxymoron.
@@Its-Just-Zipalso terminator here and there.
The lore shares quite a bit with Shipbreakers.
Right off the bat, Helldivers dropping in to bring democracy.
I guess I'm a helldiver now. Dang. I was going to retire this year.
"Feet First into Hell"
I'm doing my part!
Something that does concern me is that we're actually getting pretty close to voting algorithms being real.
Granted as they work now they just give suggestions who to vote for instead of voting for you but that's only a few lines of code away.
Just another universe slightly off from Federation ideals. Curious how much of the variances we’ve seen can be attributed to ancient aliens (ie the Preservers, the Metrons, the Organians, etc and of course the even more ancient aliens that influenced them in turn) and chance. From what I’ve seen in video games how a small community turns out can be drastically different depending on how the early community chooses to shape itself which often in turn is dependent on which voices rise to to the top at the beginning. Do we work together, is it dog eat dog, is it pure apathy? And then obviously new members are shaped by the mores of established members that socialize them.
Not really. Unless the federation secretly made, oh, the Borg, the Dominion and lets say, Klingons to create un-ending war (you could argue the Vulcans created the Romulans) .
An 18 year old rookie in charge of a warship
Not actually in charge of the ship, you just get to decide where to go.
Think of the rookie officers in charge of sections and platoons in Vietnam; they had some ncos there that actually knew what was what.

Glory to the confederation of earth, err... I mean super earth. Gods dammit, how many of these do we have?
Remember citizen, friendly fire isn't.
I can just imagine the super federation losing a war the democratic council and president probably would not like being told that things are going bad
Hey Ric, can we get a 40k Lore (series) Vid or do you still value your sanity?
We drop in feet first into hell.
spreading democracy, one video at time...

All helldivers go through ranger training?! How are they not highly trained?

hi
Haven't played the game, but have a question: can you play as any one of non-human factions? Humans are extremely unappealing here.
Battletech please
The Inquisition/of Truth is watching.
This game looks great, ain’t on Xbox yet though.
HUMANITY FIRST!!!
I like know about Space warships
"'Overly' Patriotic" sounds a little bit like Treason, Citizen.
As much as I like the content of the channel, I am afraid it must be reported to my Democracy Officer aboard SES Song of Midnight.
woah this looks like canada
EMBRACE DEMOCRACY!
"Unearth?" I'm not sure this is appropriately patriotic language. Have you cleared this with your Democracy Officer?
does germany exist on Super Earth?
😅 good luck with basic you'll need it
Wow......😮😮😮
I was looking forward to playing this game. But now hearing the storyline behind the game... I think I'll take a hard pass at it now. 😅😂
Super earth was made by Sweden super earth is space fascism
The system is probably run an ai and now I will save super earth the trouble of killing me
So Super Earth is basically just America with warp-drives?
Got it.
Is this treason?
Well, as someone once told me, it's only treason if you get caught. 😈
Helldivers are clones!

One downside of the game being the toxic player community that takes the lore waaay too seriously. :-/
I keep seeing these comments like yours. What multiplayer games do you play? CS Go? LoL? CoD? Fortnite? See, I think a certain type of parrot has picked up this line. One that has never played an online game that does PvP, because being campy like the game you are playing is not toxic. Go do a week in any of those games, then tell me how this game has a toxic community. Not a joke. Go play LoL. You will then know what a toxic game community is.
I don't mean to offend the fans, but the worldbuilding here feels like incredibly lazy and cheap. It feels like what I would make in a typical Stellaris playthrough.
I feel like that's kind of the point. This seems like a game that would rather live or die by its gameplay alone with the lore being only just enough to justify its own irrelevance to the average player.
Yeah essentially no thought went into the background, but as the other guy says that’s kinda by design. In the short time the game has been around the collective effort to drive its own kind of improvised storytelling is what has made the game so immersive. Mavelon Creek wasn’t some lore rich planet but is the most recognizable name associated with Helldivers because of how players interacted with it.

Glad I don't play the game, I don't want to play as evil guys.
So this is where communism leads to. HHMM.
