Does anyone know of this car has an auxiliary battery?
It does not.
i have a question, Can you drive this car on potholed roads?
Yes the car can withstand potholes, but up to a certain point. It is also highly dependent on your wheel and tire setup too. I would obviously try to avoid them if you can since the car is a street car and the less wear and tear from potholes, the better.
I'm replacing my battery with the red top optima battery. My problem is the lock down bolt is missing the nut under the battery tray. Any ideas on locking down my new battery?
Hey Bob, is it completely missing, or is it stripped? If the threads are just stripped you could try tapping to the next largest thread size and then getting a matching bolt to hold down the clamp. The battery tray is a replaceable component, but I think to get access to remove the tray, you'll need to remove possibly the fender or part of the lower fender liner.
Nice vid, have to say though the only difference between Quinn and Pittsburgh is the paint and markings. They are the same sockets and ratchets
You are correct, but I do like the large size markings and the red/blue color stamps on the Quinn sockets. Going on 7 years strong with these!
Magnetic socket holders are awesome. And spray adhesive to keep the black rubber liner from moving
Magnetic tool holders are great. I have thought of using spray adhesive, but not sure if I want to deal with the mess if I ever want to change up the liners haha
Corvette and tundra are the best combo. 🫡 16 TRD pro and 08 Z06
Indeed they are! That's cool to hear you also run that combo. Love this gen of Tundra!!
@@Addimotive the flex of knowing you have probably the best truck/best GT car you can buy 🫡😂😂
The m113 doesn't normally burn oil. I also switched to 5/40 lm Green oil.
Hm interesting. A lot of MB techs I talked to when I had this car said the M113s were known for burning a little oil, especially if you ran the thinner 0 weight oils.
What size rims, ET, and tire sizes do you have?
Oh man, it's been awhile since I have answered that question. I sold the car 4 years ago and I kind of forgot. Many people have asked me that question on this video and other videos on my C55, so you can likely find the answer by scrolling through the comments.
Awesome videos man!
Thank you!! More coming soon!
Thanks for the video. After 6yrs, two shops and lots of frustration, I’m just hearing about this issue. I pulled the batter tray and found quite a mess. Obviously somebody before me had an a big battery leak- judging by the acid staining. Oh yeah, the putty and zip tie around the CPU is a classic. My ground splice pack, by the AC condenser, is pretty crusty, too. So, at least I know where my problems live. Now we’ll start narrowing things down. Yes, many don’t have any issues. When I talk to other C5 guys at shows and cruise nights they look at me like I’m nuts. No troubles at all. The lesson I’ve learned is there are no cheap Corvettes. I took a flyer on a higher mileage car and didn’t know what I didn’t know. 🍻
Dang that's a bummer! Yea a lot of people don't even realize this is a problem until they look below their battery tray!
Well produced 👊🏻🙏
Thanks Steven!
So if you're just tossing the steering wheel out, you bust out a cutting wheel and just cut open the sections you need to access those bolts pretty easily. 10 minutes instead of an hour!
Yes I guess that’s one way to go about it. Except it’s a lot messier and that’s a lot of vibration you’re sending through the column and interfacing components if you use a sawzall.
Why bolt two magnets together then run a bolt through them? Why not just bolt one?
Because I didn’t want to drill holes in the top of the tool chest lid and they’re not magnetic on the backside so you have to butt two together and secure them together with a bolt.
@@Addimotive ah I gotcha, I misunderstood they are bolted together not thru the lid
Thanks for the video! Does the glass roof panel come out of your vehicle? I would add the recommendation to remove it if possible during the seat installation if possible. Thanks again🤟🏽
Of course, thanks for watching! And yes, I would totally agree with you there. Taking out the roof panel will definitely help maneuvering the old seats out and the new ones into place.
Thanks a bunch dude, pulled it off with no trouble thanks to your diy. Definitely suggest drenching the bolt with wd40. When it came loose I found wd40 in the threads so assuming it played a good part 🤷🏼♂️
Took me 2h total to remove the airbag and wheel, also filmed it and watched your vid 😅 every now and then.
Glad the video helped and you were able to get it off! That's a big reason why I make them, to help others!

The c55 was so underrated, I was a Benz tech when they first came out. I sometimes toy around with getting one
I love this, as a person with a project C5 and a 3D printer I am all aboard! I have found a decent amount of free files and am working on a repository or sorts, but would definitely be interested in buying some for personal use.
Thanks for the video Just ordered myself one!
Are these boxes still available from HF? Do you have a model number?
What did you get done to your exhaust I got my resonator deleted and exhaust tips. Deleted and it don’t sound like that but it does make a whistle sound
This is the exhaust system I’m going to use on my 01 convertible 😊 sounds phenomenal ❤
160,000 miles and not one issue with batteries on C5 Corvette, but I did have battery check every year!
I have had good luck with Quinn sockets. I’m glad to pay a little more for the Quinn to get the Red / Blue color band. Makes it easier when it’s time to clean up after a job. I’m a farmer and have several tractors with both Metric and SAE components so sometimes I’m using both on the same job sometimes. You were a little backwards on the 12 point 6 point observation. I never want to use 12 point unless it’s an odd part that requires a 12 point. Good job on the video.
Question was your airbag/ horn a little loose when you were done? It seems like mine has touch more of play.
I didn’t notice anything different from before I removed it. Do the two bolts need a little extra tightening? Actually, did you replace those little rubber nipple things onto your new wheel? I believe those help provide a soft surface for the wheel to mate up against so it’s not metal on metal that will chatter or vibrate.
@@Addimotive I forgot all about those! Thank you sir
@@ty_the_guy951 no problem!
I agree that an AGM battery is the correct choice but I disagree about choosing an Optima battery. Optima batteries are now made in Mexico and as a result do not offer the quality product that they once did. I suggest going with brands such as Bosch, Odyssey or Fullthrottle.
The ORIGINAL ac delco batteries were a problem, but any battery that leaks would be problematic for sure
Multi tools works great for cutting the adhesive to leave stripes and works to remove the remaining adhesive. 5 in one, and hammer comes in handy also. In the process now, for the first time on my c5 taking you method/advice on getting the body lines right. Thanks, for the info/videos,
Ah yes I see how a multi tool would help. Thanks for the comment! Of course, glad you enjoy the videos. Also, if you don’t want to try and reuse strips of the old adhesive, I sell a 3D printed spacer kit that I built after measuring the adhesive spacing from my car. Listing is on my Etsy store: www.etsy.com/listing/1092003522/
Addimotive, here is a list for you of issues that are serious to these cars: 1. Dead Battery 2. Leaky Battery 3. Broken small part of the engine 4. Broken rear light bulbs 5. Other leaks
Can’t tell if this is a spoof or a legit comment…
Hello, Addimotive, what if I DON'T fix this issue!!
That’s what I explain in the video.
Will it kill the car?!
Can I purchase spacers from you?
Brad! I see you found my Etsy store and submitted an order! Thanks! Working on making your order now, should have the kit sent out in a few days.
Perfect DIY tool box setup. Thanks for sharing! 🙏🏾
Two of my ones Pixie and Sunlight both had this issue for too long!!
I’m assuming your car’s names are pixie and sunlight?
I just bought one c55 amg from Copart, has a minor front crash but I will have to buy the hood, grill and a headlight. Other people fought for it I almost bought it on 5,000 but ended up wining it on 7,000, will be taking it to Mexico, I’m from Juarez and I will be paying around 10 k adding the fees, transport (bight it in Michigan), importación and fixing it. It has 85,000 miles and I’m looking to keep that baby, you did a nice video and convinced me to add an exhaust, sound great. What do you think for the price paid? There is only 1 in Mexico currently selling and it’s around 20k. Do you recomend me leaving it stock ? I think maybe it will have more value. Thanks for the video man❤
Forgot to put the year, it’s a 2006. I bought the carfax and it has had its maintenance on time, they even did maintenance to the trans at 70,000 miles. It’s my first v8 and my first amg, I can’t wait to have it over here in Juarez 👌🏻
I'll take seats I'm in Florida give me $50 for the seats
I'm a launch pad technician at nasa and I approve of this setup lol
Looks great, man!! Now I need to watch much more before painting a whole car. No idea if I will go rattle can or not. Steel car not fiberglass and it will be my first restoration.
Can you drill and countersink a hole in the middle of your socket organizer strips to make pulling sockets off the middle easier?
I track my c55 - never had an issue with transmission temp. Actually never had issues with anything except the brake rotors and pads. which is a given for track cars.
Great tutorial on the issues with the C5 steering wheels. Mine didnt want to budge at all and I wound up taking it to my body shop guy. He had it for another couple days before he was able to make it break loose. He wound up drilling and tapping the wheel to use bolts and not the J-hooks. Mine was a nightmare. Glad you were able to get yours by yourself. I've never in all my years of wrenching had one this bad. 😎👍
Awesome ride, awsome sound. Thank you for slowing down behind those bycicle riders.
Used to subscribe to dirty tool box thing, mine was constantly unorganized and messy, but I more I started working in industrial setting, more realized a clean toolbox is a must especially with how much time your saving
Looks good. Mines an 03 Mil.Yellow. Need a paint job. But, instead. Having a body guy fix the bad spots and a friend and I will be wrapping it in Satin Energetic Yellow wrap.
Thanks! Millennium yellow looks great on these cars, but your wrap color sounds like it'll fit the car too! Not a bad idea to have someone do the body work.... body work is not easy, and it's definitely an acquired skill!
Awesome work... In what room temperature did you use that you spray on that you got good results??
Thanks Chris! For most of the painting on this project I did it in December/January timeframe and it was definitely on the lower end of the allowable temperature range for the paint of around 65 F. I had the most issues when I tried to paint the hood inside a pop up tent I lined with plastic drop sheets. I don’t think this paint liked the higher humidity inside my little “spray booth”. I did that earlier last year in May so it was a little warmer.
Great job. Looks great
Thank you!!
I'd never seen your license plate before. Very fitting! Perhaps we'll cross paths someday. I'm in Oregon just over the CA / OR border.
Thanks Basin! Yea it is fitting, especially once I get more 3D printed parts on the car. Also, I’ve been working on the 3D printing enclosure, hope to have the first video out sometime in the next week or so.
What an accomplishment - a good job well done. 👏🇬🇧
