Some kind of water shields for the pcm on the passenger side near the firewall. The idea is to allow opening the side cove for ventilating the engine bay.
That's a good idea. So I know the PCM is covered by the OEM wheel well splash guards, but you're saying designing and making some type of vented cover to allow for better cooling of the PCM? Do they have issues with overheating? I'm pretty familiar with the C5 platform and haven't heard of this yet, but I'm always learning something new with this car!
@@Addimotive I believe they want to vent the engine bay heat out and not jeopardize the PCM safety. The PCM doesn't get hot. The heat wants to go up out of the hood though. There are kits available to vent the wheel well through the fender vent already too.
@@Addimotive As Basin stated, the shield is to protect the PCM from water. Opening the passenger fender cove to vent the engine bay exposes the PCM to water that might enter through the open vent. Many C5 owners have opened up the driver side vent, but not the passenger side for this reason.
@@bat5917 Ahh I see. Okay I'll do some research and see what I can possibly do. I know I've wanted to 3D print an actual functional duct that helps to pull air through the wheel well and out through the "non-functional" side vent just in front of each door.
I love this, as a person with a project C5 and a 3D printer I am all aboard! I have found a decent amount of free files and am working on a repository or sorts, but would definitely be interested in buying some for personal use.
I'm looking forward to the enclosure build as I have struggled with temperature swings since I started trying to print two years ago. I have a larger garage that I run a propane heater in just to try and print. I've wanted to try and localize that heat into the enclosure for longer prints, but never gotten that far. Please include prices on everything, or a finished cost if you're comfortable with releasing the info. There is a larger console cupholder for the C5 on Thingiverse that goes between the seats at the back of the console. It's a 44-hour print, and I've never been able to print it. You can probably figure it out if you want something better for the C5. One idea I've had is printing a set of cold air ducts that pull cold air from the front bumper grilles and sends it to the main duct for the radiator since the car pulls air from under the front bumper. There is a design of metal ducts just now being released, but I thought plastic would work also. Keep up the good work. Anything you decide to do will be helpful for the C5 platform since they are now 20-25 years old and in need of replacement parts (plus better options).
Hey Basin! Yes the enclosure build will be really fun. I'm going to fully document the fabrication and build process and will include prices as well. In fact, I'm completely designing the whole thing in CAD so it'll be cool to see that. Yea I've seen those between-the-seat cupholders, not a bad part to buy, but definitely a beast of a part to print on a desktop printer. I may try and engineer a modification piece to the existing cupholder next to the shifter. I drove the car to work the other day and my coffee thermos kept tipping over in the stock cupholder... so I ended up having to drive with it between my legs, which was a little risky lol Funny you mention the cold air intake, I've had that same thought too. Like a ram-air style intake that helps with cooling and pulling in cool/filtered air for the engine. It's definitely on my list to do! @@Addimotive I think the little ring cupholder extension is on the right track, but it needs to extend taller to better support a larger cup. Perhaps wider and taller. It should be easy to print, but I haven't gotten there yet. I've also spilled coffee and it sucks.
