powder mage was a really good book series that covered magic users being rare, powerful tools, that are both strategically invaluable, but also feared. it also played with the political power of small cabals of people who are again, strategically invaluable and yet also unfathomably dangerous, both in having great sway, but also being kept in gilded cages due to the danger they represent.

I have had to revisit the rules for this recently and get my players accustomed to this. The last quarter of our adventure is taking place in a Space jammer setting and so they have cannons and ballista on their ship. And have to defend against them in space combat. I have found a reluctance of my players in using siege equipment and having them stuck on a ship have seen my best results with it. Its an often over looked and under used rule set.

  • @mittensindisguise686

I started out playing 5e as a player. Pathfinder 1 seemed so intimidating at the time, especially when I started looking at how many character options there are. The more I learned about both systems, though, the more appealing Pathfinder became. This became especially true as I started looking at the possibility of GMing. While both systems have their flaws, I definitely prefer Pathfinder as a core ruleset overall, especially because porting content from D&D 3 or 3.5 is easy and there are plenty of alternate rulesets to keep things fresh.

Just like your thumbnail, we can use art to help decide the tone of our games. I have been playing since 1995 (yeah, you can call me a boomer, grognard, whatever), and D&D to me will always be based on the art of what I consider the trifecta of D&D artists: Jeff Easley, Clyde Caldwell and (the one on the left of your thumbnail) Larry Elmore. I don't think we will remember the art of current D&D in twenty years or so... It really baffles me that anyone would want the "tone" conveyed in the latest pieces of D&D art.

I typically favor more on the serious side where combat is impactful and can be the cause of a tpk if the players don't think for like 2 seconds, as well as have a world where their choices actually matter and aren't given stuff out like candy because "muh hero points". I also like to track carry weight and ammo usage, as well as other resources because its a small way to add a bit more thought to the game and makes magic bows that fire unlimited arrow, or daggers that return once thrown that much more rewarding, same with a rare bag of holding, or a chalice that once per day can fill itself with a healing potion that scales with their level. I want magic items to feel special, not mundane.

What I have a problem with is trying to change so much of what already exists and has existed tailored for an audience then being changed to try and pull in a different audience that may still not like it, were just trend followers and would move on to the next thing, or who have no interest in buying the product and just pirate it which leads to the company moving on because it isn't profitable.

Hey, nice video ! But i fear you missed what i think is the best option for a poison build, the Toxicant archetype for the Alchemist. It has a poison secreting from the body (RAW has no expiration date) that can be used as a touch attack or put on a weapon (as a swift) character level + intelligence per day. This poison deals your intelligence in damage, wich seems worse than the eldritch poisoner, but the catch is that every three levels you can add a rider on the poison (sickened, stunned, etc) whose effectiveness scale on levels and prior investments in riders. And there is daze at level 6 with no prerequisite. Daze. The condition that nearly none is immune to and make you lose all your round. On this poison with a DC that can scale sky high. And for the sneak attack, toxicant is amazingly stackable with vivsectionist, who has full sneak attack progression !

Weird question: Does anyone know what the hosts look like? Love placing faces with names!

I’m having fun with my Half Orc Untouchable Rager with Undead bloodline. I’ve never played a caster so this really works with my play style.

Are y'all gonna start making pf2e content?

Probably not, I think PF1 is more fun to play, and it still has a lot of great content to cover.

i've been playing pf1e for years now. also playing 2e, but while it's easier to DM 2e - finding those tricks to making a powerful character in 1e. IOW 1e is more fun to play and i prefer it. That said - I've been looking for tips on Arcanist builds, and i've been stunned at how few people have even taking notice of the QUICK STUDY exploit - this exploit obsoletes both the wizard and sorcerer classes! Wizards are limited to the spells they've prepared, and sorcerers are limited to the spells they know. With the quick study exploit, and arcanist can swap out any prepared spell with any other spell of the same level. A wizard who hasn't prepared the spell they need has to wait until the next day, while a sorcerer is just s.o.l. So an arcanist with the quick study exploit ALWAYS HAS ACCESS TO ALL THEIR SPELLS. How people keep missing this is beyond me.

Would be interesting to do a whole abandoned mansion is full of these. Then at the end the house itself is animated

I was just wandering about this, funny enough. Does it work on cannons?

I don't see why not. You can make siege weapons into animated objects, so you can also use this template.

I hate arcanist so much I made one with 12 inteligence all in cha and rely solely on arcanist exploit to deal dmg. and I was still top dps. the worst part is it was the most viable build I've made unironicly
