Welcome to Part 2 of the D6Damage Guide to Constructs in Pathfinder 1E. Today I’m breaking down how players can put constructs to work for them in their next tabletop adventure. I’ll explain the ins and outs of the Craft Construct Feat, the best crafting classes, and items, like the Golem Manual.

There's a lot of problems with constructs in Pathfinder, at least from a player perspective.
1.) Most of them require spells that come from two different character classes. This, of course, can by bypassed with a Spellcraft penalty.
2.) Many of them require a minimum caster level to create. This is a requirement that can't be bypassed like the spell requirements, and is often quite high (12th level or higher).
3.) Some of them are a much lower CR than the required level required to create them. For example, a Wood Golem is CR6 but requires a 12th level caster to create. For an Ice Golem, it's CR5 but requires Caster Level 12.
4.) Craft Construct is available to players far earlier than they can practically use it (5th level). When you can get it, you won't have the money, skill, Caster Level or spells to realistically make much aside from Homunculi because of all the other requirements. It's basically a wasted feat until around 13th level, barring some special archetypes.
5.) Many constructs are VERY expensive for what you're getting. This means a substantial sacrifice of Wealth By Level, as well as long lead times to get the construct up and running. Most players who take Item Creation feats often have great demands on their time by the other players already, so this gets difficult if you're running a fast paced campaign.
Anyone planning on being a construct maker in the game needs to be aware of these issues and plan accordingly.

I don't know if you ever plan to cover stuff that comes from 3PPs, but the elan, forgeborn, and ironborn are all awesome variations of balanced, savory, & playable construct like player characters to add onto the PC options. Oh, and since PF1 is mostly 3.5 compatible you can also port over warforged really easily as a PC option too.

I'm DMing for an alchemist who is focusing on constructs. He's become a prominent local businessman, so he walks around the city flanked by 2 golems who look like heavily armored knights, called them Sir Stronghammer and Sir Bastion. People can clearly tell they're not humanoid but they're often too creeped out to ask.
