I have two! 2 levels Alchemist for Feral mutagen and 2 levels unbreakable drunk brute barbarian for a hulk-like monster and an Oracle, the Paladin/Oracle that heals others with skill link then themselves with Lay on Hands

If a PC wanted to play a plant man.
My solution would be to take the Ghoran and remove the seed and past life abilities. Then, give it two basic tentacle attacks.

I believe the Iron Gods adventure path covers a lot of the same territory. So, if you're interested in a pulp adventure that's a good place to start.
