Tidying Up the Front Yard, Making Yakisugi Raised Beds
In this video show how I made raised beds as part of our efforts to tidy up our front yard. I'm using the Japanese traditional method of yakisugi (burnt cedar) to improve the longevity of the raised beds.

    Japan architectural, heritage, their interior design and even food and everything. Their work is fine, delicate and with lots of thoughts in it. These are always my favorites and I am a big fan as i am in this profession before. East meet west design is the trend but it's last. Minimalist and zen gives you a peace of mind out from busy city vibe. In fact the pebble stone with cement or cracked glass tiles with cement for bathroom or the entrance ,not only easy to diy but also stands out away from the horizontal and vertical application of wood strips on the wall or doors and windows.

    I like your house. Its very cosy and somehow ,not a lot if design but i don't know why, i feel the peace in your house, the warmth, the comfortable in the house. That's very important for a house. I am an interior designer and all the points of the above that i have mentioned showing that you have done a good job, although there are some parts i feel there's a lot of rooms to be improved. But i am impressed.😊

    This is seriously one of the best videos I’ve ever seen in my life! This was so relaxing and awe inspiring and the transformation was incredible! This is seriously my dream home and even just my dream in general to buy something like this and totally restore it I’ve always wanted to do something like this. The craftsmanship is unreal and the way that every little detail was addressed with love and care was so amazing to watch! I wish i could move to Japan and do this! I resonate with the Japanese people and the culture so much and the traditions and everything. I always feel like i was Japanese in a past life or something because it always just feels so much more normal to me than being an American. Well done on this in every way you did such a great job and thank you so much for bringing us all on the journey with you! ❤

    You have a gorgeous home! I had started watching you at the beginning, right after you purchased the house. I stopped during the carpentry work, sorry. I know that you talked to the man who built the home and he was helping with some of the work. It was nice to see all the work done inside (sped up version). It must have cost you more to rebuild the house than to purchase it. I know that just the trash removal was costly. I'm amazed at all the work you did. My ex promised that we would redo the inside of the mobile home we purchased. After 10 years, nothing was done. I have great respect for you, doing so much hard work to make the house into the marvelous home you now have. Your wife is a lucky woman to have a good husbandl

    I just noticed the date the house was built was in the 1980s? I didn't know they were still building this classic beautiful architecture! If they only insulated and weatherstripped like we do in California! I'm always working on insulation here and hear people say they don't recommend it, such nonsense. I insulated a Taisho minka to R19 from nothing and it's amazing. Two big toxic oil heaters replaced by one small electric heater and a fan. Air conditioning much more effective too...

  • @MichaelS-w1o
    @MichaelS-w1o Před 3 dny

    I'm a builder from California and I've worked on Kominka here. It looks like you have a beautiful Meiji or Taisho era minka with updated foundation! That's great. There could be some cross bracing added but all in all amazing so much new work was done. Usually these are just sitting on stumps and rocks!

    I'm curious how this state happened so quickly? The house was only built in 1989! That's barely 2 generations. The model of society we have today is broken. I suspect the 2nd generation moved to the "big city" and this is happening in nearly every country. There is too much investment in just a small handful of a country's cities.

    Always saddens me to see the vestiges of a life once lived vacated. A lot of people on CZcams do videos of abandoned homes like this and they're just so sad. But this! This warmed my heart and put a smile on my face that you not only brought this house, the bones of it back alive, you made it more beautiful than it ever was. This is going to be a beautiful home (work of art) to raise your family. Every milestone a triumph of glee lol! You'll be able to sit in the yard that you planted, look at the house you built with your own two hands. I imagine that's a wonderful feeling! I hope the family that left it, is well someplace too. Absolutely stunning work, on the house and the editing! I was completely entranced.

    The house looks lovely. Although it sure has it drawbacks. Default price was low, especially considered the land it stands on. Still taking into account allt he costs to get it in current state ale far from a bargain especially if the work you have done yourself isn't calculated accordingly into all the cost. What would be the most disturbing from my side is the heating system. Especially considered the fitting and gaps in the old window frames. Not to mention one should always take into consideration the house as whole before doing additional Insultation - risk of increased moisture inside and mold...
