- It's been a while since my last video so I thought I'd put this extended cut of the Japanese ranma being made for our main entrance. The update video with more on the interior should be out soon.

That was amazing. Your wife has the ultimate patience. People don’t appreciate all these hand crafted things in their homes today. It’s nice to see someone who really takes the time to do as much as possible to do things in the traditional way.
Thanks for this one. It was very peaceful.
Deb Shaw, Japanese children practice origami extensively to teach them patience.
@@boa9535 my ex husband is Japanese. All of our kids learned origami to help them relax and refocus.
@@debshaw680, Yes, Concentration. Another good result of origami.

My grandfather had a wood shop with every one of those tools. He made some beautiful furniture including the dining room table that has been in use for almost 70 years.
Those blades are very sharp and cut flesh as easy as the slice through the wood. And yet, no mistakes or miscalculations.
Watching a master craftsman is like witnessing a symphony being played. There is a Zen quality to the energy.
This place is more than just a restoration or a family home.
All the little details just add to the quality that once was and can be again.
What I admire most with all the process of building your house, is not just the highly professional work, but the great respect you and all workers have to the materials you are using.
true tru truuueee
Jaya, it was really nice to see the extended video of the carpenter working on your project. It would be nice to hear you discussing with the artisans their work that they do, and to let them know that there are people all over the world who are interested to listen to what they have to say.
I laughed so hard about your"I didn't see it either". It's a beauty though and unique to your house. Your wife and you are a pretty crafty team, are you? She's got beautiful hands by the way. Thanks for the video.
haha, same! (Tineke and I are probably both women by the way, we're not scary :) ) Except I can see how a mirrored C could be a J!
@@Nynke_K I am extremely scary, Nynke, be aware XD
I see 2 connected marriage rings there ...it looks like a typical symbol for marriage :D
@@Nynke_K , me too. Only the c is to the left and the J to the right. Maybe Japanese reads right to left, I am not sure. If so it makes sense, but presumably has two sides to be seen, so sometimes is seen the other way round. It looks like a good functioning symbol of them both to me. The horizontal joining lines are good too, as is the overlap, it is a cool and very personal little design touch.
How has happened that we don't live like this anymore?
Working with care should be a must in every part of the world.
I'm italian and used to craftsmanship, but japanese are on another level of peace and respect.
So kind and accommodating of the Tateguyasan to let you in the workshop to film everything. Also interesting to watch the plasterer. Really appreciate being able to see them work.
Thank you for not putting annoying music in the background and let us hear the real noise that anyone who works on wood would appreciate.
I would tell people it represents you and your wife's wedding bands.
MasterCard...debts that come from marriage
It does look like the pattern for a double wedding ring quilt. It's very lovely.
That was very interesting. It is kinda sad that some of the old skills are slowly fading away.
Very interesting thanks for sharing
@@user-ib5mx8ro4k you don't 😂
The craftsman that created your Ranma was extremely skilled. So impressed with Japanese craftsmen. They care about their work and that is so admirable. So beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Blessings!
It's rather funny. I was literally thinking yesterday that there hadn't been a new Tokyo Llama video in a while. Very glad to wake and see there is. Love the vids.
WOW it feels like years lol.. Tokyo please come back soon! You stay gone so long I forgot you and then Boom a video! It's nice to know you & Wife & Children are finally living in your home Thank you Tokyo!
Professional and detailed work very interesting to watch!
I'm really glad you made whole wideo about Ranma, not just a minute. And it looks great, especially with the light on the other side!
My late father was a woodworker and I got a great deal of pleasure watching your Tateguyasan in his element. I swear I could smell the wood as he worked with it. The finished Ranma is a complement to your home.
The Japanese are amazing craftsman. Their perfection is something that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Kudos on using masters on your home. It is so beautiful ❤️
I just rly want to thank u for preserving this house and documenting some of the skilled labor methods that go into things like this. It is so important as more and more of this knowledge disappears, to document this. Thank u for sharing
I, uh, can see the interlinked J and C, and the nod towards the love, the generations before and the generations to come in that... I am actually digging it because I think he captured the whole 'sun and moon' dynamic as well.
Tell the Shikui man, there might not be a huge demand now but who knows later. Yeah, I would hire him but I live on the other side of the world. As long he knows there are still many that appreciate his talent and hard work :)
Your wife has acquired the hands of an artist. I felt so calm watching all of it unfold as well I do when using my own rough talent to build. Beautiful and uplifting .
Was just wondering when we might hear next from you.
Can't wait to see how this whole journey ends. Domo Arigato for bringing us into your lives for this rare look at traditional Eastern home building techniques.
As always, a pleasure to watch. It is not just a house, it's a home.
Holy shit that guy's working without a jointer guard and he sharpens his pencil with a knife.. This guy's a pro.
Putting the hand over the spinning planer drum always gives me the heedegibees
It's a real treat to watch Master Woodworkers apply their craft. Glad you all are moved in. enjoy
Congratulations on moving in! Thanks for bringing us along on your journey. I don't really know you at all but I have to say, I feel proud for you. This kind of project almost by definition a nightmare. You've just plugged along and paid attention to the details, and the results show.
Well worth waiting for! I'm so blown away by the craftsmanship, from the Ranma maker to the plasterer to your wife's skill with the shoji. This is more than just a house, it is a work of art and a labor of love. It is both a tribute to careful craftsmanship and a place where an active, loving family can live. Some "architect designed" houses only look good on the pages of magazines. They never look like a home. This looks like a home. There will be jigsaw puzzles on the living room table and socks on the bedroom floor. And it will still look beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing your home renovation journey and for introducing us to the skill of the craftsmen involved. I too would like to see more videos, but I'm fully aware that you have more important priorities. I will take what I can get and be grateful!
Thank you - you’ve described our house well - clothes, bags, paper all over the floor. And that’s just my mess!
Really enjoyed watching the craftsman at his trade! These skills are so little appreciated, it seems. Your wife is very skillful, bringing the aesthetic touch to a delicate task.
These videos bring me so much peace, It looks so good! Hopefully one day I will have my own house to renovate.
As my pastor would say, "Choose circles of love over lines of division."
Watching everyone work so carefully in total silence was incredible and beautiful. It turned out amazing!
You have a ginger cat, cute, lovely!
OMG, the process was so beautiful!
The gentleman making it was so peaceful, it was a delight watching him. I’m so glad you spent the time capturing this process cause it is totally worth it and fascinating. Thanks for the update, I’m so invested!
Yes! Finally a new video from my favorite non-blinking CZcamsr!
😂
That carpenter took such care and attention to detail, it was a pleasure to watch him work. It reminds me some what of the infinity symbol, great choice you guy's made. Happy to see you back!🤗
Viewing the craftsman's and your wife's attention to detail in the construction of the ranma enhances my deep admiration of Japanese aesthetics. Beautiful work! Thank you for sharing with us the painstaking renovation of your lovely home!
I'm working through a small backlog of your videos that I've missed and I've honestly been tearing up a little watching all the love and care that has gone into this house. I am in awe of these craftsmen and it was amazing to watch them work--thanks for putting up this more detailed video!
It was very nice of him to let us watch.
It looks great :) and it was nice seeing a whole video documenting the whole process of a specific element instead of just a glimpse of it in a bigger update. Looking forward to the next video!
I love being able to see manual wood working. When you compare this process to say CNC wood working you see just how many steps get removed in automation. Both have their own places and their own purpose.
That is stunning! There is something calming about watching an Artisan at work - the precision, care and the way he respects the material he is working with is sublime (same for the plasterer). For some reason it reminds of old signal lamps on ships (brains and their random thoughts...🤔).
The attention to detail makes my Japanese heart soar. Greetings from Arizona. 🥰🌞🌵
I am watching from Arizona also.
it's always beautiful watching master craftsmen at work! the sureness and fluidity of their movement is nothing short of magical to a noob like me hahahaha
Lovely! The craftsman working on it was just a joy to watch! His meticulousness!
As for the plasterer, my brother is one as well, and it is truly an art! Whether in Asia or Europe, lime plaster is superb!
Wow! That is beautiful! I don’t know how I missed this video as I check back all the time because I’m so eager to see what you have completed! Thanks for sharing this with us! I wish you would post shorter videos more often but I know editing is a LOT of work! 😁
I cannot express to you how much I enjoy these videos. Thank you!
I see the J and C In the design, it’s more of an Old English J, but it’s there. It could also be interpreted as life and family, the circle of life, and the 2 larger circles meaning mother and father with the smaller overlapping middle area being the children.
Japanese craftsmanship is second to none, they have such technical proficiency and patience working on their craft. It’s not only amazing, but it’s very interesting and enjoyable to watch them work! My great grandmother was Japanese, she told me so many stories about her growing up and her uncle being a woodworker. De sadly passed away in 1990 when I was 10 but I always have wanted to visit Japan and it’s the highest on my list of places to visit.
I think it looks great, you guys have done and amazing job with the renovations! 😊
Ranma was very beautiful, with a lot of personality. I love this white paper you always put in the windows.
Omg, I can't believe there is a new video!!!
I love your channel. The journey is very interesting but I really like that you take time for us to see things happen in real time. It's really soothing and I turn to your channel often when I need to relax
I love that you included the shikkui bit, it was really amazing to see him work. It looks amazing btw.
Thanks for side trip into three crafts on view in master house. I welcome every scrap of content that you can provide. Thanks for such a shared adventure.
Looks lovely. The cover works well too. What a talented couple you both are
beautiful piece of work, and you know he's a real master if he allows you to film while he works
I do see the "J" and "C", but I also see the EURO currency sign, yin and yang, hammer or a pickaxe, waxing and waning moon phases, letters "A" and "V" and many unpublishable things in between, too. So there... LOL!
Think of this type of J smilingfaces.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/JP-e1542372634362.jpg but more circular, and you will notice what the designer was thinking about.
Sooo, where is this magic fountain that turns me into a girl?
jokes aside your house looks beautiful. im glad for you and your famiy that this project turned out so good^^
What not a Panda fan?
Honestly now I'm wondering why he was named such in the cartoon.
Oh my, I haven't seen the Ranma 1/2 anime in 25 years but I thought the same thing when I heard "Ranma"
@@cyntogia Cause it's a threshhold situation? :)
I know Ranma in Chinese means Wild Horse. That could be what he was named after
So that's where the name comes from ;)
amazing - wonderful to see you putting in such a beautiful authentic feature. It was incredible to watch the two artisans at work.
Wishing that some benevolent person would fund a school/craft center to preserve all these 'old' skills. To provide a person a way to have a life & keep these old techniques alive & cherish the beauty created by practising them even if its 'not' popular. So many skills/languages stories become forgotten & there are resources that could save them.
House is becoming & very happy to share in that journey, thank you.
Thanks for the new video. I was wondering if the bad winter had caused problems at the house. Glad you are in. Thanks too for the footage of the construction of the overdoor screen. Fascinating.
No problems but it did give me a chance to find out where the drafts were coming from!
It looks really nice, I love seeing it put together. But props to your wife, it looks really professional
That is beautiful.
I love how all his tools are the most modern to create an ancient craft. I've seen them all used in the New Yankee Workshop. Including the Japanese handsaw, best for small delicate cuts.
But yes, that's a lot of work, even with modern tools. He is a true craftsman.
DUDE !!! don't edit anything...this is interesting stuff and in these times seeing new content is key
BTW
Thank you for taking the time to make these vids of the resto.
There's always something so beautiful and relaxing about watching someone craft and create.. i could watch him hours and hours :)
Enjoy all of the Japanese carpentry work, thank you for sharing it.
I love watching skilled craftsmen at work. ❤
One of my favorites so far! Beautiful craftsmanship throughout.
Thanks for sharing. Some folks might say this was boring. But, you make good videos and it was very interesting.
Content like this makes me really happy! It was very interesting watching the ranma being made!
Great video update. Thanks !
Love it! So cool
Yessssss new content🤩
This is lovely and when I lived in Japan I always enjoyed looking at and touching shikkui walls. I had spent some time watching a house being constructed in my Japanese neighborhood in the 80's and was fascinated when the plaster was put up. I hate to think that a man of this talent would have to do tilework which seems to be below this plasterers abilities. But a man has got to put rice on the table for his family I guess. Anyways things are looking great. Thanks.
Yes finally a new video! Thank you!
Can't wait to see more!!!
Love the craftsmanship! So few possess those skills and they are dying out! The woodworker scared me to death..experience & skill A+...safety F
Beautiful!!!
Beautiful! Thanks for the update. :)
