I love how Japan still has so many artisans that have kept the old crafts alive to this day, so much has been lost in Europe since the decline of guilds and now the knowlege and expertise that was handed down through the generations is gone forever.

If people would want to pay more for hand crafted things then these types of jobs wouldn't dissapear. its the customers greed that kills these jobs.
Same will happen in japan and probably is already happening but the west tends to romanticize japan so there are probably no reports about that.
years ago an austrian glass manufacturer bought out local traditional glass manufacturer because our workers had certain knowledge about working with glass that you could only find in a certain spot in italy who never shared with anyone nowadays and our place because our guys had learned it centuries ago. So they bought the company up..sent in their workers for 6 months to "learn" from our local guys. I probably won't have to tell you that these guys left afer 6 months, not knowing anything about the secret.

This house is amazingly beautiful. The old stuff, that gorgeous roof and all the wood, as well as what you did with it. It looks modern, but still has a soul. Absolutely beautiful.
Edit: I´d like to add, I am from Europe, so current japanese architecture has always looked a bit off to me. I have always been more of a fan of the traditional style, which this house captures perfectly.

I agree with your wife...portaloos should never be used. They were created in another universe somewhere! I love the care and perfection that the carpenter works with the wood.

In the bathroom over the Window, you can put a plant that thrive in humidity.
PD: forgive my bad English,my native language is Spanish.

  • @elfiefromangelcity6142

This has helped me understand the function of a Japanese traditional house better. It's one thing to see it all in the background of a movie or anime and just take for granted that it's Japanese, vs understanding how it all comes together, and how it functions. It also made me realize that I totally placed some of my Japanese items in Animal Crossing in the wrong places lol!
