    Come Oct 25, two of my Win10 computers are going to be going over to Ubuntu Studio. (The third will be purely offline). I've been using a free DAW for several years. Cakewalk by Bandlab is (currently) free (it won't be for much longer), but it's a fully fledged DAW. Just because it's free doesn't mean it's junk.Of course, it won't run on Linux, which is why my main Music PC will stay Win10, but offline.

There's also a lot of videos where I show my process of creating various sounds with synthesizers - I try to make them as easy to follow as possible and explain the tools and my thinking as I go. Also - you can ask my community on chat.unfa.xyz :)

    I honestly think the standard should be Manjaro. I feel it combines a lot of the pros of using an Arch distro, but at the comfort & accessibility of something like Mint. Thing with Arch is, yeah, it's known for being more "complicated", but it really isn't.. especially when using something like Manjaro that handles firmware, updates and other basics for you. Furthermore, Arch repository is invaluable. NixOS also has a respectable repository, however, I think between Arch's main, multilib, testing & extra repos, plus the arch user repository... I mean it's just a no brainer. I think NixOS is certainly intriguing, though I just find the endless documentation and amount of users makes troubleshooting Arch much easier and keeps your online forum digging to a minimum. The Arch wiki is also invaluable on that front. You can find literally everything there, even as overwhelming as it can be. Problem with Mint and any of the Ubuntu or Debian based ones is how dated they all are. I understand they focus heavy on reliability and supporting legacy hardware buuuuut I mean for your average person, or gamer, or anyone using more modern programs.. ehhhh.... you really need access to newer drivers and such for a lot of things these days. Is what it is. All that said, Arch is king, and doing the whole endless distro hopping is annoying and pointless... just go with arch and make it yours... If you're a beginner, just go with Manjaro & remember that it's just arch with KDE & a full suite of software/programs preinstalled, as well as an automated update process. I'm not saying you gotta do a minimal install of arch, manually, & use a tiling manager on the absolute cutting edge of tech.. i'm just suggesting that you cut out the BS and just go straight to it. Manjaro or Arch.

      @unfa00 Not at all! You made it sound great, most of the modules just inherently sound very poor by nature. VCV is a tool to learn eurorack, a few of the physical eurorack modules sounds amazing but most don't and are again more great for the learning experience. The software eurorack modules that'll impress anyone are in Softube modular but if your looking for a great sounding synth vst eurorack is a bizarre choice. It just is whst it is, it can't help that, Cardinal is a port of a learning tool and advertisement for the actual hardware.

    Hey Unfa, in your video of doing multiple iterations of the same piece in order to improve it. How many iterations and for over a how long period of time if you where to estimate would be realistic to exspect when using this method? I think it is a really awesome method and i can clearly hear in this album that it is worth it. Just curious how long roughly how many attempts at doing iterations it takes to make a good piece of music. For inspiration. I am currently trying out this method my self on paper notation and try to refine each idea until it seems like they are the best they can be.

    • @unfa00
      @unfa00 Před měsícem

      Hey! I think it entirely depends on how familiar you are with your tools, and how clear your idea is of what the piece should be. It's hard to give any numbers on this. Some pieces take 15 iterations, some take 30 or more. Some I finish within 3 weeks, some take 5 years because I'm coming back to them a few times a year. Usually I'd say it'd take a minimum of 3 long, focused sessions to get a piece to 85%. if you only have an hour here and there, it can take months, because the work gets faster the more focused you are - for me (I have ADHD) it can take an hour to get into the zone. So if I have 1 hour I can't get much done, I need at least 2, and best 4 hours I'd say. But this is all very vague and everyone is different. I hope that doesn't scare you away from trying :D

    • @FocusMrbjarke
      @FocusMrbjarke Před měsícem

      No no not at all. I actually find it reencouraging and inspiring as it gives a more realistic exspectation regarding what to exsepct and not be too easily be disencouraged when the first attemps doesn't work. Thank you very much for your reply! :)@@unfa00
