Now go, make some music!
Thanks for the heads-up! Just checking it out now, along with Surge. They're both beautiful. Big thanks to the developers for making these FOSS! :)
God bless we got such developers! Yet another field to research!
Thank you, unfa, for creating content containing things I have to explain some people. Keep up!
Спасибо!
Whenever possible we should also support libre software developers with donations.
Really nice looking GUI, they've made it easy to see the knob values 👍
The waveform visuals are great too 👍
Thanks for this! It sounds worthwhile for sure. And thanks for the links to the analyzers.
You're welcome :)
It is something different for sure.
This is really cool, there's a huge library of open-source synths now and I absolutely love it
After you showed how the FM work, you switched it off and continued your story, but for me a strange aftereffect remained. I continued listening to you for a couple of minutes, but the sound was getting really annoying. I paused the video and it turned out a neighbor behind the wall had started vacuum cleaning.
😂
Thank you for alerting us to this synth. After I learn a bit more about linux mint 20 I will attempt an install.
The Best unfa!
Awesome review, man.
I never understood how this synth works. Great sounds, the high end is like a pleading voice mixed with a siren. Great distortion.
Has some nice lead sounds and the lfo bass sounds great too! Yeah I have been selling hardware because I have been able to move from using linux to midi control hardware with seq24 to using bitwig with software synths. With so many great soft synths coming out and pro audio daws like reaper and bitwig there is a lot you can do with linux these days in terms of pro audio and video production.
Nice looking Nice sounding :)
Nice way to end the year!!!! Great video as usual Unfa, by the way about TalNoiseMaker, does the new interface (ui) is bundled as Open Source? Thanks in advance! And happy new year!!!
Thanks! I am afraid only a specific (now pretty old) version of TAL NoiseMaker was open-sourced, and that's all we have.
Once again Unfa is like a kid in a candy store! Although you are UNFAmiliar with it, I got a good Idea of what it can do!! Thanks Unfa, now I'm gonna' get me another good toy!!! (
Thanks! It seems this synth can smoothly morph between multiple presets in one patch, which may be a quite unique and interesting feature. I didn't manage to figure out how it's done yet.
This little sucker has a lot of texture. INteresting :)
can someone explain how to install with fl studio without the vst3 folder ( as i dont have one) as it mention in the "install.txt" in the zip? there is no .dll ??%
Not bad as for open source! 👍
Very cool. And it's already available in AUR.
WOW. thank *YOU* to infinity...
Holy shift key, that could be really good for e.g. Hardstyle mid-intro sounds or some fx stuff :D
E P I C C
hello there, I like your content! What is that plugin you have there for the spectogram?
Thanks! The spectrogram is Wolf Shaper. The other two are Spectr (the RTA on top) and SiSco (x42 Simple Scope) on the bottom (partially obsucred).
I've now linked all the plug-ins in the video description.
@@unfa00 thank you so much~!!
I'm not a Synth user, but as open-source user and (sometimes) contributor, it's a good news :).
For licence usage : AFAIK (and/or Remember :p), you can use it to make a non-free sw, but you have to keep licence note for MIT licenced code usage. While xGLP like licences are "closed" (mostly) and you could use the software for non-free app (at least with LGPL) but it's more tricky, ie you can't modify the product (code or anything else) for yourself and sell it (it's just an exemple). Personnaly set my projects under WTFPL (do "anything' you want Puplic Licence :p)
You can sell LGPL and GPL licensed things just fine, you just have to also make the code available for your users for no additional cost (excluding cost for e.g. USB stick or CD and shipping if that is relevant). For just yourself you can change anything and never release any code. LGPL also is fine to use in commercial and proprietary settings if it is dynamically linked, statically linked would require the rest of the program to be under (L)GPL too. Another similar one is MPL which also allows static linking, since it works on a per file basis, so you only ever have to release changes to the MPL licensed code and the rest you build around it you can do whatever you want with. The FSF/Gnu has a pretty nice FAQ on the GPL licenses in addition to the license itself if you want to learn more about them.
@@Imaltont Thanks for precision :). I would not enter into fine details myself (I'm not expert and my english is what it is...). And of course, I would means "your proprietary application" by "yourself". One thing : The laws around static/dynamic liked libs is a bit confuse for some people and under specific circumstances (if I remember correctly : specify full path) could contaminate your code.
The cool life of software developers :p
I feel like you could use the spectrometor to write messages like they did for a game called TUNIC recently.
Very intresting
Dual MIT/GPL3, a contributor licensing agreement that doesn't transfer copyright, nice!
This is how you do it!
Found it in the Arch AUR! (
Ah, then I need to use that! Manual installation is always tedious.
Having just watched Blade Runner.... This has a few of those Vangelis like sounds😎
nice
Very good news.
I think will be better if they add some wavetables functionalities(importing editing) and clean up the interface a little
also it sound like volume is kinda boosted even on the integrated presets , while volume knob is only at half.
Sad to say but really the interface is a little bit "too much"(looks more complicated that really is), may be that is why isn't that poppular.
you can install from AUR
still using binary that i bought back in 2017 - but wow, super cool news.
now i hope this will happen with B-Step Sequencer as well.
Who knows, maybe!
Unfa I have problem because Ardour not offering me select Monique I did selected midi track but Monique is not on the list
Have you put the plugin in in one of the folders Ardour scans for plugins, and triggered it to search for new plugins? It's not going to happen automatically.
@@unfa00 Thanks for help now is sorted I just forgot run search for plugins after installation.
So launching this one with ./ application name in terminal just like surge xt or is there another way?
You can run Monique as a standalone program, or add the plugin to a directory like /usr/lib/vst3/ and use it inside Carla, Ardour etc.
@@unfa00 something about my system prevents me from running it by double clicking like I can blender or Krita but it's good to know about placing it in that directory! Happy New Year to you!!
@@Gotblade - I'd try checking the file's permissions and confirm that the "executable" flag is set. What's great about the ./ approach is that if the console won't launch something, it typically says why.
@@voltijuice8576 good point. The permission are set but the terminal says /dev/shm/jack-1000/default/jack_0 failed (err=No such file or directory)
But I don't use Jack. I wonder if it's a Debian 11 thing?
Thank you for responding by the way!
@@Gotblade - Happy to! If you don't use Jack the VST version should be more flexible and defer to whatever audio system the host program uses.
Super cool. I'm going to write some beats with Monique and broadcast them to the Orion star constellation. Then when we meet people there in a few hundred years and they happen to be bumping those tunes, earth lawyers cannot sue them or my progeny.
Sounds so earthy.
Thanks! I can't figure out how to actually download the synth binary.
If you're using Arch Linux or anything based on it (Manjaro, Endeavor OS etc.) there's an easy way to do it from AUR.
Otherwise, you need to go here:
github.com/surge-synthesizer/monique-monosynth/releases/tag/Nightly
@@unfa00 Thank you. I'm on OSX Monterrey. Will check this link. Much appreciated!
Unfortunately I can't get it working on Reaper for Linux. Hopefully I can figure out what's going on.
Please note that it hasn't had a stable release yet. Monique has been updated, but there's still potential technical issues. If you want to help - report these issues to the developers, fing an "Issue" on Monique's GitHub page (link in description on top).
@@unfa00 I managed to find a version of Monique that I was able to get working. Its been fun to play with.
How do I install this on Ubuntu Studio 20.04?
Go to releases here and see if they have a .deb package. If not - you may need to manually move the VST3 plugin into /usr/lib/vst3/ so plugin hosta can find it. Alternatively it can be ~/.vst3/, but not all hosts look there by default. Carla needs that dir to have added manually to search it when scanning for plugins.
github.com/surge-synthesizer/monique-monosynth
@@unfa00 Thanks
What's that visualizer on the right there?
There's three plugins (top to bottom):
Spectr.lv2
Wolf Shaper
x42-SiSco
I've now linked them all in the video description.
@@unfa00 Thanks!
looks like this synth has some nonlinearity applied at output that can't be turned off, or is it a bug?
I am not sure.
What is this nonlinearity exactly? If you dont mind explaining, id love to hear it. Thank you.
Could you share some info about your game?
Sure! You can find it and read up on it here:
git.gieszer.link/unfa/liblast
It's an open-source multiplayer FPS made with the Godot 4 engine. There's a 6 other people working on the game in their spare time.
Oh, goodie!
P.s. OWW my ears.
I love distortion.
А почему нет ссылок на официальный сайт разработчика?
Sorry, I don't understand. Can you try English?
@@unfa00 And why are there no links to the official website of the developer?
my virus scanner removes the file....and says its unsafe...not sure why
If it's Windows saying that it "protected your computer", it may be just the fact that it doesn't have many records of people running that program, so it automatically assumes it's bad. If you're downloading from GitHub I don't see a way to have any malware there. If in doubt - let the developers knows maybe they can do something about it.
@@unfa00 thanx will do
it keeps taken it away and says its a trojan
Name: Ws.reputation.1

will contact them and ask
@@bearsdj Yes, that's something else than I thought. Please file an issue on Github.
GPL respects a user's freedoms. Is liberation such a radical idea?
In today's world - it is.
Your argument is pretty disengenuous, for obvious reasons. GPL is only more pro-liberation than MIT if you assume that users are incapable of researching and deciding for themselves which software to use. That may or may not actually be true, but *that* is where the delimma is, not this cartoonish "liberation vs non-liberation" thing you're suggesting.
It's awesome that these devs makes their synths free and even open source!
But I like Surge much more 😐
This one seems to be good and very complex (these oscilloscopes are awesome!) but all these presets that I've heard here sounds very "digital". I think it's a great synth for Dub-step and similar styles. But not for everything.
What happened to Tommy? Did anyone hear anything? He just went quiet for years and then it went free and now open source. Hope he's ok.
I think he's fine, he's working on the synthesizer with the Surge team - I think the Monoplugs company went down though.
He’s fine! It’s been a joy working with him on the synth as he has open sourced and combined forces with us!
@@baconpaul5772 That's fantastic news, I thought something had happened to him. I was a beta tester when he made this and was in contact with him regularly so I'm pleased to hear he's ok and that his magnificent work will live on.
Surge docet
Uff, fiddling so much with License Foo takes all that fun out of the vid, I am sorry, Bro I have already headache before I would have created on silly beat or tone.. LOL
That's why I included a progress bar on the top and a hint to skip the talky part.
Tried a few months ago, I didn't like it very much. Sound too digital and it only looks good for a certain type of sounds.
i will not use this synth. i have to many synths. i dont look foe new ones
It's better to learn one inside out than to skim through a dozen, not getting to the depth with any one of them.
Pretty useless like most vsti
If there's no creativity.
Terrible, sounds so bad I never Will download
Not all spice fits any soup:)
